Amazing Food in Newport Oregon! written by Tara Nicole
When I was a kid, my parents would take my brothers and sisters and I on month long vacations up and down the Oregon Coast and we always started in Newport, Oregon. I fell in love with the ocean and Newport and all it had to offer. I have gone at least once a year since then. There is tons to do there. Whale watching, visiting the Newport Aquarium, fresh salt water taffy shops, and awesome food. On my last trip over there, I started my day off with some breakfast at Fishtail’s Cafe down in Pirate’s Cove. It’s a quaint little cafe that is very warm and inviting. The staff was very friendly and quick to offer me service. I was seated and was offered some hot coffee on the house while I looked over the menu, which is huge. There is so much to choose from, lots of varieties of omelets, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, and more, but I finally settle on the marionberry stuffed french toast. It was not what I had expected at all. It was amazing, actually. They start with a 1 inch thick piece of sourdough bread, and then they stuff it with this amazing cream cheese mixture (the kind that is basically a heart attack waiting to happen). Then they dip it in eggs and fry it. Finally, they top it with a fresh marionberry sauce and whipped cream and serve it with an egg and a biscuit. It’s pretty spectacular, very unhealthy, and very filling. I couldn’t even eat half of it. My next stop was at Moe’s Annex on the Newport Bayfront. From the outside, it looks like a run down type of place, but I know better. Once I step inside, I am quickly greeted by the friendly staff and seated at a table overlooking the bayfront. The aroma of fresh caught seafood fills my nose and I can’t help but smile. Their menu is also very huge and is full of delicious items, such as fresh shrimp, salmon, and more very tempting dishes. I finally settled on having fresh shrimp cocktail and a sourdough bread bowl filled with made fresh daily clam chowder. The chowder is mouthwatering and delicious. Even now, a year later, I can still taste it. It’s very simple but very good and filling.
After lunch is a good time to go sightseeing. You can walk up and down the bayfront and see so many fascinating things from attractions to souvenir shops. There is something for everyone. Just a few doors down from Moe’s Annex, you will find Aunt Belinda’s Candies Inc. They offer a large assortment of candies, from fudge, to licorice, and my favorite, fresh salt water taffy. There are more than a 100 different flavors of taffy to choose from that is made fresh daily, Flavors will always vary but include marionberry, orange cream, smores, banana cream pie, watermelon and many more. They have amazingly rich fudge in different flavors as well, such as marionberry, chocolate cherry, orange dreamsicle (my favorite), dark chocolate caramel, and many, many more. Needless to say, Newport offers a wide assortment of delicious foods and candies that just makes your tummy happy. Happy eating!!!
