Embark on haunted Rutgers scavenger hunt if you dare NICOLETTE ACCARDI CONTRIBUTING WRITER

Let’s face it, Rutgers is pretty ancient. Ghost sightings have been reported at various locations here at Rutgers, so who knows what could be lurking throughout these campuses. If you’re looking to get in touch with the supernatural this Halloween, try this scavenger hunt to live out your “Ghost Hunters” fantasies, if you dare.

KISS SOMEONE AT OLD QUEENS

Believe it or not, the supernatural walks among us on campus. DIMITRI RODRIGUEZ / STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER

A “Gray Lady” ghost inhabits Old Queens at night. Apparently, “Gray Lady” ghosts die for love or while waiting for it. Catherine Livingston is supposedly the “Gray Lady” who died while waiting for her lover, Alexander Hamilton, to return. Nowadays, Livingston is rumored to haunt the Old Queens bell tower. Kiss your lover — or anyone you desire — at

Old Queens when it gets dark, and see if the bell tower rings. If it goes off, well that’s a spook for you.

FIND THE SECRET STONE OF MILLER HALL

Miller Hall has quite a bizarre history, the building used to be used as a morgue, and a stone somewhere in the building has “McDede Burial Company” written on it. Faculty have reported hearing odd noises in the past, so now it is your turn to discover what all the commotion is about for yourself. Grab a friend and search for that creepy, “McDede Burial Company” stone. Be sure to take a picture for your Snapchat story.

LEAVE A ROSE AT WOODBURY BUNTING-COBB HALL In the 1980s, residents of Douglass’s Woodbury Hall noticed that while surrounding halls had flourishing rose gardens, any

roses they attempted to plant in their own lawn would die. They also observed that whenever fresh roses were brought to the hall’s A-wing, they would wilt the next day. Mary Putnam Woodbury Neilson held her rose garden in the area, so it is believed that Neilson doesn’t want anyone else planting on her turf. Test out this theory for yourself by bringing a rose to the hall, and swinging by the next day to see if Neilson strikes again.

TAKE A NAP IN LITTLE THEATER

Did you pull an all-nighter last night, or do you just want to take a break? Snooze in this haunted spot. Several students have said that Jane Inge, the theater’s former director, haunts it. Students have reported seeing Inge in a white dress lurking around the theater. Get some shut-eye here, and you might just wake up to a surprise!

Crush it this Halloween with ‘creepy berry’ cocktail JULIA TETERS CONTRIBUTING WRITER

For those of you 21 and over looking to give a spooky twist to your choice of drink this Halloween, part ways with the typical and tasteless Miller Lite, and put your bartending skills to the test with this creepy berry cocktail. Not only does this drink taste great with its tropical flavors and fresh fruit, but its contrasting colors and crushed berry texture make for a festive drink. This cocktail only requires a few ingredients and can easily be made virgin-style for students who’d rather get their sugar rush with a big bag of Halloween candy. This deliciously dark drink is the perfect cocktail to make before hitting the first big party of the night — or even hosting your own.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED Put your bartending skills to the test by crafting up an enchanted witches brew this Halloween. MICHELLE KLEJMONT / MANAGING EDITOR

½ cup orange juice ½ cup pineapple juice

½ cup rum ½ cup blackberries Orange decorating sugar, or plain sugar, with red and yellow food coloring. First, mix the orange juice, pineapple juice and rum in a cocktail shaker, or heavily stir it in a cup with ice. Pour the sugar into a shallow bowl, add the food coloring if you need to dye it orange. Choose a small glass with a wide rim and coat the rim of the glass with water. Then, dip the rim in the orange sugar, which will create a simple decorative element to your drink. Place three or four blackberries in the bottom of the glass and crush them with a spoon. This will give your cocktail a creepy look. Pour the drink mixture over the crushed blackberries. This will cause the colors to separate, making it appear black toward the bottom and orange on top. Garnish with a blackberry, and enjoy!

What your 3rd night Halloween costume really means JANINE PUHAK STAFF WRITER

As Cady Heron from “Mean Girls” once mused, Halloween is the one night a year that a girl can dress however she likes, and no other girl can say anything about it. If you also believe that the clothes make the man, then eyeing someone’s Halloween costume is essentially like taking a good look into their soul. All bets will be off the final weekend of October as Rutgers’ finest gather beneath the moon to celebrate some of the most fantastic evenings of their collegiate years. Exhausted and battle-scarred, for better or worse, you can tell an awful lot about a person by what they’re wearing by Day Three, where the true colors emerge. Take this sartorial horoscope to help you navigate the waters and sail through the holiday fright-free. May you not be tricked, only treated.

THE GOTHIC

Thank goodness the day is finally here again when your routine apparel doesn’t draw stares at ever y corner you turn. Your dark lipstick, combat boots and chain metal jewelr y provide the perfect base to throw on a witch’s hat or vampire cape and call it a look. As fellow ghosts and ghouls pass on the street,

you snicker to yourself. They may be amateurs, but they’re doing you a favor. It’s oddly liberating to be off duty, because Halloween is ever y day for you.

THE OVERACHIEVER

Cheers if your energy is blazing to see this one through. Why? Because this. Is. Your. Favorite. Holiday. You count the days until Oct. 31, and you’re definitely going to show ever yone else up. Whether you will be taking on the night as a sugar skull, clever pun or 2016 presidential hopeful, the hard work and creative spirit you put into your intricately homemade costume sets it a league above.

THE COUPLE

These two want you to know — THEY ARE IN LOVE AND HAPPY ABOUT IT. They will not be leaving each other’s sides as they float from address to address, and don’t you dare make eye contact with their other half. Last night they were Kim and Kanye, two nights ago they were superheroes and tonight they are Minnie and Mickey! So cute. Actually — wait, can you take their picture? **Hands over cell phone** It’s for Instagram.

THE SEXY

officially win the breakup. Against the pleas of your friends, not only are you going to venture totally out of the way to run into your ex, but you’re going to make them green with jealousy, too. Ladies can be often spotted in leather Catwoman bodysuits and gentlemen half-naked in top hats inspired by “Magic Mike.”

If you encounter one of these poor souls, kindly offer a hug — they need it.

THE LAZY

Suited up in an odd combination of a favorite pair of shorts, your roommate’s costume from last year and an ultra-cool pair of shades, your spur-of-the-moment

attire is just as easygoing as you are. Your look is best interpreted as “Risky Business” or “Walk-OfShame,” depending on the time of day, but you couldn’t care less. The last 48 hours have been such a wicked whirlwind that you can’t believe there’s already another night of mischief to be had. Happy Halloween!

WILD CHEETAH PRINT

This feline-inspired look can either act as a subtle complement to a simple costume, or a glamorously chic fashion statement — and the best part is, it’s super easy to create it yourself.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Skin tone foundation or eyeshadow primer, fine-tip or liquid black eyeliner, small makeup brush, brown eyeshadow, gold eyeshadow and gold glitter eyeshadow (optional).

Grab your eyeliner, eyeshadow and a steady hand to acheive flawlessly frightful makeup. DANIELLE GONZALEZ / FEATURES EDITOR

STEP 1: THE BASE Apply an eyeshadow primer or foundation to your eyelid for a base tone, this will make the hues of the eyeshadow pop. Follow with a generous application of

gold eyeshadow by adding gold glitter to the crease of your eye for a luminous highlight. Blend the shadow smoothly. STEP 2: CHEETAH SPOTS This step requires a steady hand, so don’t hesitate to ask a friend to help you! Use your fine-tip or liquid eyeliner to draw cheetah spots on your eyelid. We recommend applying minimal pressure and making the spots evenly spaced for an authentic cheetah pattern. To create the spots, draw loose C-shaped designs in different directions — the more imperfect, the better! STEP 3: DEFINE THE SPOT To complete the look, use your smallest makeup brush and dab a small touch of matte brown eyeshadow in the center of each cheetah spot. If you’re looking to accentuate this look, you can frame your eye with black wingtip eyeliner on the tops of your lids and waterline. Apply mascara for a finishing touch!

SUPERNATURAL SPIDER WEB

Make a dramatic statement with this creepy, crawly look. This gothic spider-web design can be the perfect festive makeup idea for any costume party!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Fine-tip or liquid black eyeliner. STEP 1: LINE YOUR EYE Start by using your fine-tip or liquid eyeliner to draw a heavy black wingtip on the top of your lids. To draw a clean wingtip, sweep your line from the inner corner of

your eye to the outer corner while keeping your eyelid as flat as possible. For a perfect wing, you can imagine a diagonal line pointing out at a 45-degree angle from your outer corner, you can even use clear tape for guidance. STEP 2: CREATE THE WEB Draw the spider web design using your liquid eyeliner. Start at the top of your crease, so the design will be visible even when your eyes are open. With a steady hand, draw four or five diagonal lines, resembling the spokes of a wheel, on the tops of your lids toward your brow bone. The lines should be shorter toward the inner eye and progressively longer toward the outer. Don’t be afraid to extend the lines upwards or downwards based on the depth of your eyelids! Complete the cobweb by connecting the lines in a loose U-shape. STEP 3: ADD A SPIDER We’re almost done! Add a spider on the side of your eye by filling a black circle for the head, a larger black circle for the body and eight legs. If you’re feeling particularly festive, you could connect the spider to your cobweb, or even add eyes with white pencil — add your own personal touch to your creepy crawling creature. We at Inside Beat love to see all your unique designs! When you’re done, don’t forget to tweet a picture to us and share your spooky look by tagging @Daily_Targum and using the hashtag #InsideBeat and #DTHalloween to enter our Halloween contest!
