Smoke-Signals -
Whiskey Delight Ingredients · 2 cups pecan or hickory wood chips · Ice cubes · 1/2 cup sugar · 1/2 cup coarsely chopped pecans, toasted · 10 tablespoons Jack Daniel's or other whiskey · 6 tablespoons amontillado Sherry · 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
Preparation Line heavy large pot with heavy-duty foil. Sprinkle wood chips over bottom of pot; cover. Turn exhaust fan on high. Heat pot over high heat until smoke begins to form inside pot. Fill 9 x 4 1/2 x 3-inch metal loaf pan with ice. Place in pot; cover tightly. Smoke ice until just melted, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Cool slightly. Cover loaf pan tightly with plastic wrap; freeze until firm, at least 6 hours. Using ice pick, cut ice block crosswise into 4 large smoked ice chunks. Wrap tightly in plastic and keep frozen. Bring 1 cup water and sugar to boil in medium saucepan over high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Add pecans; reduce heat to medium and simmer until syrup tastes like pecans, about 12 minutes. Strain; discard pecans. Cover and chill pecan syrup until cold, about 2 hours. Place 5 tablespoons whiskey, 3 tablespoons Sherry, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, and 3 tablespoons pecan syrup in cocktail shaker. Fill with plain ice cubes; cover and shake until cold. Divide mixture between 2 old-fashioned glasses. Repeat with remaining 5 tablespoons whiskey, 3 tablespoons Sherry, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 3 tablespoons pecan syrup, and ice. Place 1 smoked ice chunk in each glass and serve.

How to Paint a Wall of Faux Tile Difficulty: Moderate The taping requires a good eye, but the painting is quick Gleaming, oversize subway tile set with thick ribbons of matte grout: It's the last thing you expect to see in a foyer or a dining room. But when the work is done with paint, the result can be a perfect, playful visual effect. Decorative painter Ingrid Leess "tiled" this foyer wall in two days, using 1-inch-wide delicateadhesion painter's tape and latex paint in two colors and finishes. "The exaggerated grid delivers a lot of punch, and it certainly goes up faster than the real thing," she says. For maximum effect, she used a base coat of flat gray to create the look of grout lines, and highgloss gold to make her glazedceramic-like tiles. "Strong colors work well," she notes, "but the impact comes from the contrasting finishes; you could also choose flat white and glossy ivory." Read on for the step-by-step process, from blank wall to trompe l'oeil. Tip: Any color combination will do—even two shades of white. But contrasting sheens are key. Choose a flat finish for the base coat (the "grout") and a highgloss finish for the top coat (the "tile"). Draw a brush through the wet paint to give the tile subtle texture.
1. Make a Story Stick Once the grout-colour base coat is dry, wrap a 3-foot or longer stick with 1-inch painter's tape at 8-inch intervals; you'll use this to mark out the "grout" lines. If you prefer narrower grout lines, use narrower tape. 2. Use the Story Stick to Mark the Grout Lines Using a ladder, the story stick, and light pencil marks, mark the top and bottom of each horizontal grout line. Do the same to mark the vertical lines. Let the marks guide you as you put down rows of delicate-adhesion painter's tape to form a grid of 8-inch squares. Extend the tape a bit at each end for easy removal. 3. Remove Portions of the Vertical Grout Lines Use a single-edge razor to help remove 8-inch lengths of vertical tape from every other row; this will turn the squares into 8-by-16-inch rectangles that are staggered, as shown in 4. Seal the Edges of the Tape and Roll on a C oat of Paint Using a putty knife or a credit card, press down the edges of the tape to discourage bleeding. 5. Roll on the Second C olour Working in 4-by-4-foot sections, roll on a coat of high-gloss paint. Before it has a chance to dry, draw a lightly loaded 4 inch brush through the paint from left to right, which will give the "tiles" a bit of texture. 6. Remove the Tape When the paint is dry, gently pull up the tape at an angle. Add a small table and a tables cape, and your visual trick is a fait accompli.
Make It: A DIY Hanging Light Bulb Chandelier! You will need: chicken wire 1Ă—2 wood strips (at home improvement stores such as Home Depot, they can cut to desired size for you) chain small nails 4 small hooks (to attach the chain onto each end of the wooden frame) lamp kits L brackets liquid nails (or other wood glue for the frame)
Mount wood frame to desired size and secure the inner joints with L brackets. Stain or paint your frame if you’d like. Layer chicken wire over the top of your frame, and secure it with nails. This will help you divvy up the space between each lightbulb. Drill a hole on each end of the frame to attach the hooks, where the chain will mounted. From the bottom of your frame, thread your lamp kits through the wire mesh.

DIY Hanging Paint Chips Super cheap! The paint chips can be picked up at any home improvement store for free, and can be cut into any shape and size you desire for endless options.
For this project, you will need: -thick embroidery string -paint chips in assorted shapes and sizes -scissors -glue
Instructions: 1. To begin, match two paint chips of equal shape and size up with each other. For this project, we made sure to use contrasting colors on the front and back for variety.
2. If desired, cut the paint chips down to size.
3. Place glue on the back of each paint chip, lay the embroidery string atop the reverse of one paint chip, and affix the second paint chip to the back.
4. Feel free to cut all different shapes and sizes — the more variety, the better the visual effect!
5. After the glue has dried, clean up the edges by trimming away any white space or overlap.
6. Continue laying down paint chips until you have a long garland of endless glued chips!
7. Depending on your space, cut the string to the appropriate length. We cut each string at a different length for variety, and hung them from the ceiling at varying distances and widths apart. The chips can also be displayed as a more uniform backdrop by affixing the strings to a railing or arch for a funky altar, photoshoot, or cake table backdrop!
