PILGRIMAGE In a semester long collaborative studio, we studied camp typologies and the logistics of pilgrimage camps that make them unique. The next phase of our project consisted of designing a single dwelling unit that our pilgrim user would use on their journey. We then moved onto the final design portion of the project where we were challenged to design a city in which our dwellings can be utilized. Our final design proposes flooding our site to give the pilgrims the freedom to circulate freely and building an open framework structure where robotic arms will put the dwellings in place. The structure would respond to all the different seasons and be flexible to the amount of users staying.

Our challenge for this hospitality project was to preserve and transform a historical landmark into a hotel. We were given the freedom to choose our user and site within the United States. I chose a site in the 2nd most visited city in the US, New York City. 47 million people visit NYC on vacation every year, so the user I chose was vacationers on a 4-day, 3-night trip. The Dakota is a historic landmark that is underutilized by its current function with its location near Central Park, shopping districts, and other popular attractions. After initial research and analyzing the existing conditions, my design solution proposed transforming the existing apartment complex into a hotel that would give tourists’ an opportunity to have a unique staying experience in one of NYC’s most popular buildings.

the
bridge The new College of Business on the University of Nebraska - Lincoln’s city campus was under construction in the spring of 2017. The new building has a designated space for a Husker Business Lab that would allow students to manage and work in a retail environment. We were challenged to create an environment that would attract students to shop for multiple merchandise types including Fanatics sportswear, Innovation Campus Maker Studio items, CBA merchandise, business professional wear, and general school supplies. Once our class addressed the challenges the site and floor plan provided, we moved onto research about retail environments, brick and mortar vs. online shopping and technology. Our final design proposals provided two different floor plans to show the flexibility of the fixtures and merchandise.

Howard County Medical Center challenged us to design a Wellness Center that would replace their current metabolic institute as well as support new functions. A fitness center, classrooms for education, physical therapy, office spaces, and social areas were their desired functions. For this project we went through four phases of design; programming, schematic, design development and final proposal. In schematic, we were given a building shell with a column grid which allowed us to design our own floor plan with little limitations. The new wellness center is over 15,000 square feet would be connected to the existing medical center to allow employees and users to move from one facility to another with ease.
