TATE FENCING

Welcome to the TATE FENCING brochure for 2018 Welcome to our new brochure; our complete collection of products for Fencing, Gates, Garden Buildings, Decking and much more. We have our own onsite treatment plant where we pressure treat all our timbers using next generation Tanalith™ wood preservative. This advanced formulation incorporates the latest and award winning BARamine™ application technologies to provide an even more assured long term protection to the resulting TANALISED™ timbers. We make sure all our timbers go through the correct treatment process, and are treated to the correct level. We also only use kiln dried timber for our posts; this is to achieve the maximum penetration of treatment fluid. This also ensures our posts get the best possible treatment and are classified as Use Class 4 which is for in-ground contact.

TATES You will notice the logo on many items throughout this brochure. This indicates the product is manufactured by our dedicated workshops and pressure treated on site. This means these products come with the TATE FEncing 10 year guarantee. You will also notice a Non Tate logo on a selection of items throughout this brochure. These products are pressure treated. However we do not manufacture or pressure treat these ourselves so therefore they are not covered by the Tate Fencing 10 year guarantee. The round top option has round top posts and slats. The ‘prepared’ palisade option for both pointed top and round tops is ideal if you intend to paint your fence as the individual components are supplied with a smooth finish. The only difference is rectangular rails with rounded corners are used instead of arris rails to eliminate sharp edges.

Closeboard bays are supplied as loose components and when fitted together combine to make an extremely sturdy and durable fence. The posts are supplied, as standard, with a back weathered top and are pre-mortised to accept the ended arris rails. This provides a very strong frame for the feather edge boards to be attached to. For additional durability the bay comes complete with a gravel board that fits at the base of the fence. All heights specified include the gravel board. Other post tops are available to order.

The advantages of having counter rail and capping is that it provides greater strength protects the feather edge and improves appearance. The counter rail is mortised into the posts and the top of the feather edge attached to it. This provide a solid base for the capping to be secured down on top of the counter rail. 6

3.0m Bay with Timber Gravel Board When fixing a timber gravel board to a concrete post, it is recommended that a larger 28 x 63mm timber cleat is used. Two M8 x 180mm roofing bolts are used to secure the cleats to either side of the post, allowing the gravel board to be nailed to the front face of the cleats.

Designing a Pergola Pergolas comprise of three parts, support posts, main beams and top beams. The timber specifications are dependent on the purpose, size and positioning of the pergola. When designing larger pergolas we recommend using 125 x 125mm posts, this allows adequate room for a 50mm notch in the top of the post. The main beams are generally 47 x 125mm or 47 x 150mm depending on the span and can be ‘S’ shaped at the ends. For example, 47 x 125mm for up to a 3.6m span and 47 x 150mm for 4.8m span (guide purpose only). Top beams can also have ‘S’ shaped ends and be notched to sit onto the main beam at approximately 600mm centres. However all this depends on the size of the pergola and the look and feel you are trying to create with your design. The size of timber used is important so the structure not only is safe but also creates the right balance of timber to compliment its surroundings. Top beams

Manufactured from ex 75mm prepared & tanalised® Scandinavian joinery softwood, our ‘heavy frame’ gates offer stability and durability, while the hand finished frame is a great example of our workmanship involved to produce these items. They are guaranteed against excessive twisting up to 1.8m wide (See gate disclaimer on page 57). Most of the ‘heavy frame’ gates are also available in a high quality Iroko hardwood option allowing width up to 2.4m each leaf.

The Richmond gate is a timber clad metal frame gate. The timber frame is constructed around a galvanised metal frame. The gate is boarded both sides with a tongue and groove (TGV ) finish. This produces a gate of very sturdy timber appearance and allows single gate widths up to 2.4m wide. These gates are guaranteed by Tate fencing against any twisting and movement. Characteristics of Timber Wood is a natural material and not evenly porous, not all areas of an item may dry at an even rate. This uneven drying creates tremendous pressure inside the wood which causes it to split, twist or warp as it is exposed to sunlight and air. Wood that has been pressure treated will shrink as the water used in the treatment process evaporates from the timber. It is very unusual for any of these natural weathering characteristics to be detrimental to the structural strength or shorten the life expectancy of the timber. Dark stains & paints will increase the absorption of sunlight and speed up the drying of the timber. Sealants & oils hold the moisture in and allows the timber to dry at a slower rate. TaTe fencing fencing 10 10 Year Year Guarantee Guarantee TaTe All TaTe fencing products that have been Tanalised using the next generation of Tanalith™ pressure treatment are automatically covered by our 10 year guarantee. Any Tanalised item damaged by rot or insect attack within 10 years of purchase from TaTe Fencing will be replaced free of charge. Timber damaged by any cause other than rot or insect attack is not guaranteed. Timber must not have been misused in any way, any on-site cutting or drilling made to the timber must be treated with an end coat preservative. Any timber subject to a claim must be returned to Tate Fencing for inspection with full proof of purchase. The only cost covered by this guarantee is the cost of replacement of the defective timber. Consequential expenses incurred as a result of the replacing of the timber are excluded. Timber which has been placed in abnormal conditions is excluded. Original invoice as proof of purchase is required prior to any replacement, the replacement product will be a like for like replacement.

Pressure Treatment Process Tanalith™ is the latest generation wood preservative. Already established in markets throughout the world, Tanalith™ treated timber provides a proven alternative to traditional CCA treated timber for the timber trade and for the general public. Tanalith™ preservative has a unique copper and organic biocide (triazole) formulation allowing Tanalith™ treated timber to be used where special environmental concerns or restrictions exist, as well as the everyday construction, landscaping and engineering applications for which treated timber is renowned, e.g. children’s play areas.

The Tanalising process involves placing the timber within the treatment cylinder and creating an initial vacuum within the timber cells.

The cylinder is then flooded under vacuum with the preservative treatment.

Hydraulic pressure is then applied forcing the preservative deep into the timber cells.

After a pre-determined period of pressure depending on the species of timber being treated and its eventual use, the treatment solution is pumped back into storage and a final vacuum extracts any excess treatment solution from the timber.

Low pressure inside the timber draws in surface solution when vented to the atmosphere and the treated timber is left for a minimum of 48hr for fixation of preservative to occur.
