Page 1

Once you have your 80s big hair teased, ready for your 80s fashion outfit, include one of these three essential 80s hair accessories. The best news, is that these 80s hair accessories will be found for less than $2!

Lace, Lace, Lace Get your lace ribbon from the cheap $2 shops or your fabric and craft shops. It should be one or two inches (3 - 5 cm) wide, and about a metre or a yard in length. Grab a few lengths in different colours. The staples of course were black and white, however, you may want to get coloured lengths to enhance the colours in your outfit.

Option 1) Line up your lace ribbon in half and place it over your hair tie for your ponytail. Either do a gentle reef knot or a bow, leaving long dangley, lacey tails. Don't forget to make your ponytail to the side, or as a fountain top ponytail. Option 2) Tease your hair and create classic 80s big hair. Tie the ribbon from behind your neck and ears, as a hair band. Ensure you do an even bow, and place over the part, which should be on the side of your head, and not the middle.

Banana Clip Way awesome. More of a later 80s thing, say around 1987.. If you can get your hands on one of these babies, you'll probably want to hang onto it, and use it in your everyday life. One of the reasons why I like them, is they avoid the bandy thing that goes on with your hair when you use an elastic hair tie. They are so versatile, and make the most of messy hair / bad hair days. Everyone with long hair used them. Wear it vertical, and if you are feeling a bit out there, try it on the side. You may need to create a bit of volume with your hair, so hair spray and a bit of a tease Banana clips are cheap, and you will only pay a couple of dollars for them.

Scrunchie Okay, when you weren't using a banana clip, chances are, you had a scrunchy. And... OMG! Every different colour and fabric were available. If you were crafty, you or someone you knew, would make them. Some people made pocket money by making and selling them down at the local flea market.I have been known to still wear them very occasionally, as they seem to be more gentle on my hair than a regular hair elastic, even though they have a bit of a stigma. I'll never forget the Sex and The City scene, where Carrie points out to her author lover, that New York women do not wear scrunchies, after he published a book, and wrote about a woman from New York, who wore a scrunchie.

He was not very happy, obviously, and was delighted when they lined up behind a woman in a bar, who was wearing a scrunchy. When Berger turned to Carrie and thinks he has made his point, Carrie quietly tells him, that the woman was not from New York. And it turned out when politely questioned, that the woman was from Georgia. Anyway, I guess the point is, that they are not supposed to be in fashion any more. Having said this, they will probably be available for sale at your local supermarket, flea market and $2 shop. (And are still cool, I reckon) There you have it. Three cheap yet essential 80s hair accessories to wear, when dressing for 80s fashion, or 80s fancy dress!
