TAUD continues to introduce experienced and knowledgable speakers who possess the expertise that benefits the future of Tennessee’s utilities. TAUD strives to keep utilities informed on the most important topics and arising issues as they happen. Speakers come from established organizations such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Tennessee Department of Environment Conservation (TDEC), USDA Rural Development, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, as well as many other trusted sources. Each conference focuses on a particular area of utility operation, providing highly targeted information. Attendees leave conferences with a wealth of knowledge that assist not only day-to-day operations, but also the overall success of utilities today. In this conference & event guide you will find information about each conference including dates, deadlines, and pricing. Corresponding registration forms are provided in the back of this book. The Legislative Breakfast & Rally provides utility personnel the opportunity to meet and discuss important issues facing our industry with their respective legislator. It is vital that we reaffirm the importance and the impact our utilities have on the State of Tennessee in economic growth and commerce. The Rally provides a session designed to update attenddees on the Hot Button Topics facing our utilities in the current General Assembly. The breakfast provides an opportunity to meet with elected officials and voice your concerns or support of those Hot Button Topics. So often the first question a legislator will ask when they arrive is, “Is there anyone here from my district?” It is for this important reason that we encourage you to attend as it shows the unity and support we stand for inside our industry. TAUD’s LARGEST EVENT! Focusing on operators, plant supervisors and managers, this exhibition offers “live demos” and “handson” displays while also allowing attendees the opportunity to meet the vendors and hear about the latest services, supplies, tools, and equipment available to our industry today. The Operator Expo also provides operators the chance to meet other utility personnel from across the state on a fun and competitive level with contests held throughout the day; including the Leak Repair and Backflow Repair challenges. However, the biggest competition will occur Wednesday, May 21th at the TAUD Operator Expo Bass Tournament, held on Old Hickory Lake. Held annually, this one-day event is TAUD’s oldest meeting. Although the format has changed, the history still remains as this event is host to the Annual Business meeting-which recaps the previous year for TAUD-and the traditional golf tournament. This tournament serves as a fund-raiser for TAUD’s “Tennessee Utility Education Corporation” (TUEC) scholarships. Each year, three (3) scholarships are awarded to a qualifying senior from each of Tennessee’s three grand divisions, intending to major in a field related to the operations of a public utility at an accredited college or university. Held in the mountains of East Tennessee’s Gatlinburg, this is TAUD’s largest indoor conference. This meeting offers sessions for both the administrative and the operational sides of a utility with a selection of topics that are informative and designed to make sure attendees are kept up to date on the latest regulations, technology, and services available to utilities today. One of the major highlights at this conference is the Exhibit Hall. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with vendors, to network with other utility personnel, and on Thursday, the chance to win some fantastic door prizes! This conference also offers three events for attendees to participate in and contribute to the “Tennessee Political Action Committee”, or TUPAC. These events include the Annual TUPAC Golf Tournament, the TUPAC Trap Shoot, and the TUPAC Silent Auction (see schedule on opposite page for event times & locations). The Mission of TAUD Administrative Professionals Program The TAUD Administrative Professionals (TAP) Program is designed to promote and educate those striving for administrative excellence. We believe the TAP program sets a higher standard for utility office personnel. The certification requirements for the program are a series of topics relevant to the skills necessary to become an Administrative Professional in the utility industry. The TAP program requires completion of 30 total hours of course work in the following areas: Office Management, Financial Administration, Legal and Personnel Issues, Personal Development and On-site System evaluation applicable to your specific utility. TAUD believes the completion of this program will allow you to perform at a higher and more skilled level thus creating a forum for administrative experts in our industry. It is our hope that utilities across the state will recognize those who have completed the TAP program as premier level Administrative Professionals. 17
