Bugs and Books

For ages 3–6

Come and listen to a fun story time and then create your own little paper ladybug friend in the craft session.

Anzac Windows

For ages 3+

Drop in any time between 10am–1pm on the days indicated and create a painted window design in the style of the great memorial stained-glass windows that can be found around Aotearoa. Then, place your design on our Waihirere windows to create a collaborative art display.

Un-Imaginary Friends

For all ages

Bring your imaginary friend to life by creating your own little buddy from dough and a variety of craft materials, then take them home to hang out with!

Fun fact: the tallest KEVA tower ever built was 15.7 metres tall! While we may not get that high, we can sure come up with some creative designs.

For ages 7–10

Use our templates to create a cardboard puppet. Princess? Witch? Bear? Ogre? You decide. Make one for each hand and you can put on a puppet play.

Sensory Storytime

For all ages

Enjoy 20-25 minutes of songs, rhymes, and interactive stories in a calm environment, followed by 20 minutes of Sensory Play.

Deano Yipadee Show

For all ages

Best-selling author, musician and performer Deano Yipadee, aka ‘Nee Naw Man’, will have your child in stitches as they read, sing, laugh, and bounce along with his collection of chart-topping Scholastic books and songs. Deano will take you on a hilarious comedy live-music adventure featuring: Nee Naw, the Little Fire Engine, Stink-o-saurus, Granny’s Undies, and the brand-new book, Dusty the Digger.

There will be time for photos and autographs afterwards.

For ages 11—18

Learn the basics of Italic script using a variety of techniques and tools. Then use your new skills to create an artwork. This could be a quote, proverb or an artwork incorporating your name. Bring some ideas with you for your creation!

Fire up your enthusiasm, ignite your ideas and set your stories on fire!

Maketu author, Angie Belcher, invites young writers to join her for blazing exercises, hot tips and flickers of writing advice.

Angie says everyone has a story and with encouragement – and a few writing tools – they have the power to set those stories alight.
