AN INNOVATIVE DESIGN WITH NEW CONSTRUCTION COMPLETELY ORIGINAL & SURPRISINGLY WEARABLE
Inspiration T A V A T ’s d e s i g n e r , N o r m a n Schureman, came up with the “SoupCan” idea whilst working on T A V A T ’s f i r s t “ E x - C a m C o l l e c t i o n .” While Norm was visiting a friend in Arizona, who constructs and races planes, he noticed an old poster on a hangar wall, advertising a group of crop sprayers, back in the ‘30s, who got together on weekends to give airshows, calling t h e m s e l v e s “ T h e F l y i n g B u r r i t o s ”. Seeing their crude goggles, Norm imagined that they were cut out of soup cans and immediately came up with the idea, which after a great deal of study resulted in a completely new way of making frames.

SOUPCAN ACETATE TAVAT continues to grow their “SoupCan Acetate” Collection in which the distinctive features of the classic SoupCan have been mirrored to achieve a similar look and feel. Each frame features the similar iconic detail of the Swiss watch-crown hinge, which in some cases, has also been cleverly incorporated into the nose construction. The final result is an acetate collection, which not only has the design detail of “SoupCan” but also the benefits of warmth, comfort and color, associated with classical Mazzuchelli material.

The renowned Café Racer motorcycle remains popular t o d a y . I n f a c t i t ’s m a d e a huge come back in the past years particularly within the “hipster ” style riders. This has always been a type of motorbike, as well as a type of motorcyclist both having t h e i r r o o t s i n t h e 1 9 6 0 ’s B r i t i s h counter-culture.
Capsule Collection T h i s y ea r, TA V AT p r e s e n t s i t s c a p s u l e c o l l e c t i o n “ K a f e e R a c e r ,” w h i c h l a u n c h e s with a statement piece designed by an a s p i r i n g d e s i g n e r, M i g u e l H a r r y o f t h e Art Center College of Design. He took inspiration from the world of the Café Racing and strived to make an innovative piece of eyewear inspired by the functional and aesthetic elements of café racers.
Cafe Racers are popular now m o re t h a n e v e r. H a v i n g t h e i r origins in England in the 1960s, these motorcycles embody the idea that less is more, reducing elements to create a unique aesthetic and ultimately light weights. These principles were kept in mind to create a timeless eyewear piece that references the rebel spirit of riders and spectators alike.
