Experience
The Tavistock Cup’s no-ropes experience and invitation-only gallery gives guests an intimate look at the game of golf. Only members of Isleworth and Lake Nona, tournament sponsors and invited guests have the opportunity to walk the fairways with golf’s most elite touring professionals. Tickets are not sold to the general public, and the gallery is limited to approximately 3,500 guests. Each year, contestants compete in their own backyard for a purse that includes $1 million being donated to charity on behalf of the winning team. The Tavistock Cup is broadcast live on the Golf Channel in the U.S., Canada and Japan. Sky Sports and other international affiliates also air the live broadcast throughout the United Kingdom, Latin America and South Africa. The Tavistock Cup’s live coverage, re-airs and highlights reach nearly 100 million households in more than 200 countries worldwide.

In 2009 at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club, Team Lake Nona claimed their second Tavistock Cup in the tournament’s six-year history. Captain Ernie Els and Team Lake Nona rallied from an early deficit to defend their home turf and defeat Team Isleworth with a final score of 17-13. Graeme McDowell led his team to victory by taking home the Payne Stewart Salver Award for low medalist on Tuesday after posting a score of 6-under par (66). He is the first Team Lake Nona member to win this honor. The 2009 Tavistock Cup brought different challenges to the team event with two Old Mutual Long Drive Challenges and Closest the Pin competitions on each of the Par 3 holes. Retief Goosen’s monster drive clinched the first Old Mutual Long Drive Challenge. Chris DiMarco and Ben Curtis each landed their shots closest to the pin on Hole #4 and Hole #13, respectively. Lake Nona members have claimed six worldwide victories this year, including Henrik Stenson’s win at THE PLAYERS Championship in May. Team Lake Nona looks ready to defend their World Golf and Country Club Championship title this year at Isleworth.

It all started as a locker room conversation. “Who would win if Isleworth and Lake Nona’s golf professional members competed in a tournament?” As the roster of golf professional members deepened at Isleworth and Lake Nona, so did the burning desire to answer that question. After exploring the idea of this team competition with future captains Ernie Els and Mark O’Meara, the tournament was embraced by all, and in 2004 the Tavistock Cup was born.

The Tavistock Cup returns to Isleworth Golf & Country Club in 2010, and Team Isleworth stands ready to defend its home turf as it successfully did in 2006 and 2008. Captain Mark O’Meara and Team Isleworth jumped out to an early lead following Round 1 at last year’s tournament, yet could not defend their title against Team Lake Nona at the 2009 Tavistock Cup. Tiger Woods claimed the second Old Mutual Long Drive Challenge on Hole #15 after pounding his drive 320 yards. Mark O’Meara’s shot on Hole #6 and John Cook’s shot on Hole #17 earned each of them a closest to the pin win on those two holes. With six PGA Tour victories this year, Team Isleworth looks to reclaim the coveted Tavistock Cup at this year’s World Golf and Country Club Championship.
