HOW IT ALL Began..
Author’s story
Don’t we all wish we had the power to freeze a moment in time? Photography is the only way to truly make a moment last a lifetime. That’s what led me to fall in love with the art of photography.
My name is Tawny Turner, and I would describe myself as a faith based, “all in”, “heart on heart on her sleeve” kind of girl when it comes to any aspect of life.
I value every moment in life as something that will either be reminisced about wth joy or be a learning experience to allow growth.
I also believe our creator, the Lord, is all things good and beautiful, and
therefore all He has made in this world beautiful as well. We just need to stop, take the time to find it, and capture it to share as a testimony of His beauty and goodness.
It has taken lots of time and practice but as I’ve learned and practiced
HOW TO USE A Camera
SHUTTER SPEED
Shutter speed determines the speed the shutter of the camera opens and close. A faster shutter speed, like 1/300, creates a shorter exposer, necessary for capturing fast moving objects/people. Because the shutter opens and closes so fast it allows less light into the lens. A slower shutter speed, like 1/50, creates a longer exposure, possbile to use when objects/people aren’t moving fast. Because the shutter is opening and closing so slow it allows more light into the lens. Shutter speed works close with ISO level, which you will see in a bit.
HOW TO USE IT
Depending on whether you have fast or slow moving objects/ people and whether you’re in a low or high lit place will detemine where shutter speed is set to. When shooting regular or slow moving objects a low to medium shutter speed can be used, this will also allow plenty of light into the lens. If there is too much light it can be fixed with a lower ISO level, Shooting fast moving objects requires a high shutter speed to ensure photos come out clear. Keep in mind light will be compromised but can be fixed by increasing ISO levels.
APERTURE (F/STOP)
Aperture determines how much light enters your camera sensor and hits the image sensor. The aperture of the lens also determines the dept of field in your photograph. Various lenses will have permit for different levels of aperture ranging as low as an aperture of 1.8 and as high of an aperture as 14. The lower the f/stop number the wider the opening of the diaphram in the lens is. The higher the f/stop number the smaller the opening of the diaphram’s lens is.
HOW TO USE IT
n low lit places a lower aperture is suggested to allow more light into the lense. In contrast, when in a highly lit place a higher aperture is suggested to allow less light into the lense, to not overexpose images. When shooting multiple people a higher aperture is suggested to allow all individuals to come out in focus. But when shooting one or two peple a lower aperture is suggested to allow a crisper focus. It depends on the desired depth perception for the photos.
ISO SENSITIVITY
ISO is the cameras sensitivity to light as it pertains to the digital senor of the camera. The lower the camera’s ISO level is set to, such as a level of 100, means less sensitivty to light. This can result in a darker image since the lense isnt capturing much light. While a higher ISO level, such as a level of 3200, means more sensitivty to light. This can result in a brighter image since the lense is capturing more light.
HOW TO USE IT
When in any situation it is important to keep ISO as low as possible as a high ISO will cause photos to be noisy. But in a low light situation where shutter speed and aperture aren’t providing enough light ISO will need to be increased. When movement is involved a high ISO will need to be paired with a high shutter speed. With more practice one can learn how to balance using shutter speed and ISO together to get the clearest and best lit photos.

“I decided to do photography full time after 3 years of being a photographer. I started my photography career as a sophomore in high school which did not give me the time and flexibility to pursue it full time. Once I enrolled at the university I realized that I was able to make a living and sustain myself with my business so I decided to get out of school and solely focus on photography!”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF BEING A PHOTOGRAPHER?
