Colour in a Public Enviroment/ Context Research Tayla Thurlow s2894952
01 For this assignment I wish to change the colour associated with this sushi shop located in Carrara. There are a lot of different colour combinations that are currently in place. These colour combinations do not have any consistency with each other which implies that the store is unprofessional and unkempt. For this part I will explore the colours that are being used by this shop and the colours surround the area.

02 This research concluded that the surrounding colours are green, orange, red, yellow, and dark browns. These colours are very different compared to the colour scheme that this store currently has. Although this store might be going for a unique look by having a contrast of colours to break up the environment, but in my opinion there has been a lack of thought and design gone into the shop display.
For the second part of this research I decided to take colour swatches from Bunnings that suited the same colours as the environment. In class, students were divided up into three groups. In each group I provided everyone with colour swatches and their own sushi piece that was brought from the same Carrara Sushi shop. Each student was then instructed to pick out a three colour scheme on what they thought best represented their chosen sushi.
03 The colours you see have been chosen by the students, these findings suggest that I should chose a colour scheme with yellow, green, and a dark green.

04 Based on the research I have conducted these are colour combinations I have come up with.
Chosen colour combination:
#F07F19
#0B1711
#479D35
#EA582C
Chosen colour combination for illustrations:
#FFF2D4
#0B1711 #F07F19
#479D35 #307330
#EA582C
The reasoning behind choosing these colour combinations is because even though I have selected the colours in the surrounding area, by having orange as my primary colour this stands out more than most of the surrounding shops. With my colour combination this store will be vibrant and more exciting than the current colour scheme. Also due to BWS also featuring orange as their main colour that is directly opposite from this Carrara sushi shop, this will create a beautiful consistency and symmetry between the to two shops. Using this colour scheme, I will create innovative designs including a new logo, poster, shop header, and interior redesign.
