Dear Taylors Family, If I say, "Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night," even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you. Psalm 139:11-12 I've read this signature Psalm from David about God's presence many times. It has always been wonderfully encouraging to me. But these verses resonated in my heart and mind for the first time recently. Think about what God is saying to us: When all you can see is the darkness around you, God's presence transcends the darkness and transforms it into great light. It's like the transformation of the neighborhoods, stores and landscape around us. While they typically remain hidden in the deep darkness of winter nights, they are suddenly changed by the beautiful Christmas lights hanging everywhere. In the middle of the night, our focus is no longer on the darkness. Instead, we see the beauty of the lights and the images that come alive. Perhaps this is the change in perspective -- the word of hope -- we all need during this Christmas season. Maybe this is what our souls need to be reminded of as we look back at 2015 with regret or look ahead to 2016 with uncertainty. Think beyond our own selves and think about our lost neighbors, friends and family members. Think beyond to a world that remains in darkness of the light and hope of the gospel that has come in the form of the Son of God. We rejoice, not only because of the intimate promise of this song composed by David as it lifts our eyes and hearts, but we also rejoice because of the global proclamation made at the time of Christ's coming: The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world and this light shines in the darkness and the darkness will not overcome it (John 1:5, 9). My prayer for you is that you sense the presence of God and His light in amazing ways this Christmas season and New Year. Much love, grace and joy to you all,

Hope
By Doug Mize, Education and Connections Pastor It is now December and your “to-do” list has just doubled, if not tripled. Yet above all of those items, our hearts are invited to celebrate, embracing the wonderful reality of a hope fulfilled by Jesus. As Christ followers we resonate with the story of hope because we need it so much. There is nothing more hopeful than the arrival of our Savior. Isaiah’s ministry was during a difficult time for God’s people, yet through the Holy Spirit, he penned a wonderful promise of hope. The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness. Isaiah 9:2
This Light is the promised Messiah, our Deliverer from darkness to the hope of salvation.
More often than any other time in my ministry, I am encountering people weighed down and anxious...people concerned with their personal lives, anxiety weighing them down at home, in their community, at church, or at work. Added to our personal consternation is this growing threat of violence in our world, especially toward Christ followers. Now more than ever we are a people desperately in need of hope. We all desire quick relief from difficult circumstances, but is this really God's best for us? Often God’s plan of hope is not a simple deliverance from circumstance. Hope presupposes our suffering, otherwise where is the need to hope for anything?
In the Hands of our trusted Savior, hope and suffering are not divergent enemies, but instead fraternal kinsmen who remind us that God can be trusted and there are better days ahead.
Imagine in your trials, even during this time at Christmas, God is providing hope in the midst of the suffering. The same God Who orchestrated the miracle of Christmas is the same God Who can be trusted in our difficult circumstances. The God Who allows certain challenges and anxieties in your family, work, church, etc. is the same God Who teaches us to trust Him when it doesn’t make sense. As the Apostle Paul learned when God did not remove his thorn in the flesh, but instead taught him, My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness. Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 During the next few weeks of advent, as we are reminded of the miracle of redemption, let us trust in the One Who works in ways we still cannot fully understand. And in the midst of difficult circumstances, we have the joy of modeling Christ and are ready to share the hope we have in Jesus. May we do it with gladness. Our Savior deserves no less.

Guatemala A team from the Twenty Something Life Group spent the majority of their time laying cement blocks for extending the main meeting/dining area at the Oasis Girls Home. They also had other opportunities to serve, such as playing soccer with the girls staying in this home, encouraging the missionaries, and leading a worship service. One morning the team, along with twelve older girls from the Oasis Home, drove to the location of a recent mudslide and visited a school that housed many of the families that lost their homes. Gathering about fifty children, they held a mini-Bible school–facilitating crafts, songs, Bible stories, snacks, and games for them.

Praising God for Prayer in Homes Response On Sunday night, October 18 nearly 400 people from Taylors FBC representing every generation met in fifty different homes for the sole purpose of collectively pouring out their heart to God on behalf of themselves, our church, our community and our world. For one to two hours and even beyond, heartfelt prayers were spoken for God to move in ways only He alone can move. A prayer guide was used by the groups as a way to assure all were praying over the same things. This Scripture was quoted as a way to set the tone for this special evening of prayer. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 Following the prayer guide assured agreement was being made by His people to see God’s Will accomplished in a multitude of ways. The prayer evening was primarily a way to point adults to the most important way we encounter God. For Doug Mize, Education & Connections Pastor, the effort was to see God’s people mobilized in seeking His Heart in a way that also introduced them to multi-generations of people. “There is something special about praying with people from your church from different generations who you have never met. It breaks down barriers and builds commonality with people who otherwise you did not think you had much in common.” The evening was organized to purposefully bring together people of different generations who had not met before this evening to unite for prayer. “Meeting people who worship at the same church you attend is a vital part of building unity and strength. Our church is better because of the generational makeup of our people. As we meet together and pray together God is glorified as we are unified!” Doug was especially encouraged by the array of testimonies he received. “I have heard from nearly 100 people about how God moved in their groups as they called on the Name of our Lord. I am especially thankful to hear of the groups who have decided to continue meeting! It is great to do something practical that binds us together to the Will of God.” “Nothing tends more to cement the hearts of Christians than praying together. Never do they love one another so well as when they witness the outpouring of each other's hearts in prayer.” - Charles Finney
