Congratulations!

Five students from the Taylors Worship Ministry recently represented our church at the South Carolina Baptist Convention AllState Weekend for Chorus, Orchestra, and Worship Bands. This program seeks to provide an opportunity for auditioned choral and instrumental students in South Carolina to develop their musical skills and grow as worship leaders. Following two days of intensive rehearsals, the groups led worship for area churches, then joined together for an afternoon concert. Congratulations to Kaitlyn Applewhite, Leighanne Burch, Claire Countryman, Charlie Hartsell and Grace Hartsell for being selected to participate in this event.

SALVATION ARMY AWARD

Thank you to the many volunteers from our congregation who stepped up to serve the Salvation Army, a Love Taylors Ministry Partner, by ringing the bell at the Taylors Walmart. Our Leadership Team made up of Jim Stovall, Mark Hamelin, Rob Pokoro, and Patsy Pickelsimer worked diligently to fill all time slots with over 300 volunteers. As a result of their faithfulness to the task, we were presented with an award for raising the most in Greenville County – over $12,000! To learn more about how these funds will be used to serve those in need, visit https://www.salvationarmycarolinas.org/greenvillesc/.

A SERVANT’S HEART

Buddy Keller beautifully illustrates a heart of service as he quietly serves behind the scenes, never expecting recognition or praise. Buddy and his wife Pat have faithfully served on Sunday mornings with Taylors Children for many years. He has served with CEF Good News Club since its inception, missing only one week in all of these years! Buddy has also served by ringing the Salvation Army bell at the Taylors Walmart every Friday during the Christmas season for approximately 18 years. Pat Keller says their motto is, “Wear out, don’t rust out!” Buddy recently celebrated his birthday by riding his bike on the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Thank you, Buddy, for modeling a servant’s heart for all of us at Taylors FBC!

CHRISTMAS STORE

By Ed Rambo The Christmas Store at Community Mission Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Furman Gatewood, was created four years ago in partnership with Taylors FBC and others. Our Taylors FBC members served along with several other churches/groups by donating gifts and serving at the store through Adult Life Groups, Small Groups, and Student Ministry. Volunteers in the store once again experienced the immense gratitude of shoppers who were able to provide gifts they could not have provided for their children otherwise. The Christmas Store began with two primary goals: 1. Empower adults to choose and purchase Christmas gifts for their family instead of giving the gifts away. Parents, grandparents, and other family may then have the dignity of providing for their children themselves. 2. Partner with Community Mission Baptist Church to reach the low income community immediately surrounding the church for Christ. Each shopper provided contact information that will allow follow up communication with the family. In review of the last four years; o Approximately 100 volunteers set up and operated the Christmas Store o Gifts valued at over $60,000 have been contributed for sale o Over 500 shoppers have come through the store o An increasing number of our shoppers have been unchurched

MISSION 1:27 — HOPE FOR THE FATHERLESS

Mission Statement: We exist to minister to families within the adoption and foster community through support, education, and prayer. FAMILIES BY GRACE Families by Grace began in September 2018 as a place where families who are fostering, adopting, or desire to support these families may gather for support, education, prayer, and encouragement. The group, led by Eric and Christiana Wenning, has flourished and grown since September and has become a strong ministry arm of Mission 1:27. Some participants are single, some are married, some are grandparents, some have fostered, some have adopted, and some are there to support, but everyone has something in common and that is the desire to CARE FOR THE FATHERLESS! The group had a wonderful night of fellowship at Christmas as they celebrated all the things God has done in 2018! Please join us for Families by Grace on Wednesday nights from 6:30 - 7:30 pm.

“ Orphan Care isn’t about someone doing everything, but about everyone doing something.” — keeporphans.org

GREENVILLE COUNTY FOSTER PARENT ASSOCIATION CHRISTMAS PARTY Through our partnership with the Greenville County Foster Parent Association, Mission 1:27, a Love Taylors Ministry, has the privilege of walking alongside foster families in Greenville County by hosting their monthly dinner, training, and childcare. We have also hosted the GCFPA’s annual Christmas Party the last two years, providing dinner, volunteers, and support for 40 families to gather and celebrate the Christmas season. We are thankful for the good work of the GCFPA and the opportunity to show the love of Christ as these families fulfill the biblical mandate to care for the fatherless. We are excited to see what God has in store for future ministr y of Mission 1:27 through Families by Grace, Miracle Hill Boys Home, the Giving Closet, our partnership with Greenville County Foster Parent Association, and other opportunities.

FIRSTLINE — HEALING FROM TRAUMA DESIGNED FOR FIRST RESPONDERS AND FAMILIES Begins Wednesday, February 27 | 6 - 8 pm | Facilitated by Lori Hornsby and Bryan Leppard Firstline focuses on helping first responders and their families heal from the spiritual and moral wounds from servicerelated trauma. We accomplish that by organizing trauma healing courses in local communities that provide a unique blend of clinical insight and faith-based support. Participants learn skills that aid in their healing as well as help build community. These courses are free to participants and are safe, private, and peer-led; provide childcare and meals, all with the purpose of removing barriers to families seeking help. We encourage the participation of spouses and affected [adult] family members, as we recognize that trauma impacts the entire family. At Firstline locations across the country, first responders are healing, divorce rates are dropping, and medication abuse is decreasing. Critical incident trauma directly impacts not only the mind and body, but also the soul. It can manifest itself through issues like anger, anxiety, depression, social withdrawal, and most tragically, suicide. At Firstline we believe these symptoms are often linked to deep-rooted “soul wounds” related to unresolved grief, distrust of God/self/others, unforgiveneness, bitterness, and loss of identity. These soul wounds are caused by moral and spiritual injuries, and finding healing from them is a vital part of the overall trauma recovery process. From Firstline Leadership Academy Manual, 2017. LOVE TAYLORS SUPPORT GROUPS FAMILY TO FAMILY

Tuesdays, February 5 – April 23 | 6:30 - 9 pm | Room B132-133 To learn about the next class and to register, contact NAMI at 331-3300. Designed specifically for families with a loved one suffering from mental illness, Family to Family is an in-depth course developed by NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and offered at Taylors FBC in the spring and fall of each year. Discover that you’re not alone, receive encouragement from compassionate leaders who’ve walked in your shoes, and gain valuable insight along with survival skills for the journey with your loved one. “After years of struggling alone with our son’s addictions and mental uncertainties, Family to Family provided a safe, loving, and knowledgeable context in which we found hope and strength. God used the leaders and fellow participants to show us we were not alone and that He is at work in the midst of the journey. We would strongly encourage anyone who loves someone with addictions and/or mental health to take advantage of this excellent resource.” — Family to Family Participant

UNITED | Wednesdays, 6:30 pm Series on The Word Begins 3/13

Join us for the biggest weekend of the year – DNOW 2019!

The movies we watch, songs we hear, and books we read can lead us to believe the secret to a perfect relationship is a little bit of destiny, a whole bunch of feelings, and a tiny dash of magic. In this four-week series, we will give students a better lens for evaluating their current and future dating relationships. We will help them learn to be wise in their choices and help them see the secret to a relationship that is “meant to be” is to stay close to Jesus.

The Bible. We know we should read it, but sometimes it is difficult to devote our time and attention to it. Why do we avoid Scripture? Does it feel boring or irrelevant, maybe even convicting? How do we change that? In this four-week series, students will be encouraged and challenged to engage with the Bible in a new way. We will help them discover the Bible as a love letter, a guide, an invitation, and the living and active Word of God.

This in-town retreat is the highlight of Student Ministry as our students e n g a g e i n hig h - e n e rg y wo r s hi p, intentional teaching, and develop deeper relationships with their peers, leaders and the Lord. We can’t wait to see what God has in store for this year! Cost is $75 and includes meals, activities, and a t-shirt. Registration is open through March 6.

2019 Women’s Retreat

Joseph and Ashley Eskridge Joined December 2 by Letter Also pictured: Harlow, Oliver, and Waylon

God continues to speak to many of the 107 women who joined us for our retreat at The Cove in January. We felt the presence of the Holy Spirit in our fellowship, heard Him through LaTan Roland Murphy's message, and will continue to respond to His challenge to be strong and courageous!

THE CHALLENGE

Be strong and Courageous! Do not be discouraged, do not be afraid, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

THE CHARGE

Take your position! God has called us, chosen us, gifted us, and empowered us – He will fight for us! We will put on our armor, fight in the heavenly realm, and after we have done everything stand firm.

THE PROMISE

We will inherit the land – it is ours! The victory has already been won. We will take our eyes off of the obstacles and fix them on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, we press on to the goal to win the prize! Thank you to our amazing Uplifting Events Team...
