ORPHAN SUNDAY November 7, 2021

In 2009, the Christian Alliance for Orphans began providing united leadership to make Orphan Sunday a catalyst for awareness and action across the U.S. and worldwide.

“I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be you.”

with Isaiah 43:1-2

“More than 153 million orphaned and vulnerable children need a caring family, loving support, and the only thing that is eternal — a relationship with Christ. Orphan Sunday is set aside to recognize the plight of these children and spur on all believers to action. We may not all be able to adopt or foster, but we can all do something.” from Lifeline Children’s Services Currently in Greenville County there are approximately 624 children in foster care with only around 300 licensed foster families – this gap leaves the greatest need of any county in the state of South Carolina. Mission 1:27, a Love Taylors ministry, was formed by Taylors FBC 10 years ago to provide support for fostering and adopting families in our church and community and to raise awareness among our congregation of the many needs for foster families in Greenville County. Over the years we have had many of our own members become licensed to foster and quite a few who have gone on to provide a “forever home” for children they originally fostered. What can you do? • Prayerfully consider becoming a licensed foster family. • Pray faithfully for our own fostering and adopting families and for God to raise up others. • Give to our Mission 1:27 funds to provide grants and other support for foster and adoptive families. • Offer your time to come alongside foster/adoptive families through meals and other practical help. To learn more about Mission 1:27, email lovetaylors@taylorsfbc.org.

This year on the 20th Commemoration of Orphan Sunday, join Christians across the globe to be foster, orphaned and vulnerable children.

with

ORPHANSUNDAY.ORG We have considered and prayed about pursuing foster care since we were at our last church over a decade ago. Adoption and foster care was modeled by many of our friends in our former small group and we saw the difference it made not only in the hearts of the child, but also the foster family. We felt the Lord tugging on our hearts to obey His command to take care of orphans and widows in the book of James. — Amber and Steven Wickers

“LORD TEACH US TO PRAY…”

Have you ever felt your prayers are just “hitting the ceiling?” People often share this sentiment – people who are committed to following Jesus and who have a desire to pray. Yet, they feel their prayers somehow don’t make it to God, they don’t feel “connected” when they pray, they don’t see prayers answered and don’t hear God’s voice even when they try to be still. If Jesus’ disciples themselves needed instructions on how to pray, then surely many of us need help as well. If you desire a deeper connection with God through prayer, take time to tune in to a recent series of video lessons on prayer by Dee Hopkins, Leader of our Servant Prayer Ministry. You can access the videos at taylorsfbc.org/prayer and click "Get Started." You will also find more information under Prayer Resources, specifically the “Developing Your Prayer Life” Prayer Guide.

“The prayer videos were created to show believers that God does speak to His children – and to help them learn to recognize His voice. Hearing God’s voice is of utmost importance in our relationship with Him. It is critical in becoming all that we were created to be and walking in all the purposes He has for us.” Dee Hopkins

WHAT A POWERFUL SUNDAY! We are so thankful Kevin Ezell, President of the North American Mission Board, and Will Browning, SEND Missionary for LA were able to join us for our 2021 REACH Sunday. What a blessing to hear Kevin Ezell teach faithfully God’s Word and to hear from Will Browning share with us his call to serve in Los Angeles. We are thankful to be a LEAD Partner in LA and to work alongside such faithful men! Thank you for giving generously to the LA Offering! The total to date is nearly $50,000! These dollars will be used to plant churches and support church planters in Los Angeles. We are expectant for God to do great things! As we look ahead to 2022, we are thankful to have the opportunity to work alongside our REACH partners to share the gospel in some of the least reached places within our Nation and among the unreached peoples of all Nations. Many of you have already committed to one of our REACH Teams and we look forward to commissioning and sending you, as well as many others, this next year!

REACH TEAM UPDATE Working with Encounter Church in Westwood, MA

Our team arrived at Encounter Church and immediately felt the buzz of excitement within the church community! We were thrilled to hear updates about the new Encounter Church Learning Center, which they plan to open this year, and to hear how they have been working in the community. Our work began by placing netting around the new Encounter Church Learning Center playground, which features a large ship with various stations for the children to play. Their vision is for the community to see this Learning Center as a place for their children to receive the best care and education possible. Our team also worked on Saturday at Westwood Day and enjoyed hearing the members of the community share their stories of life in Westwood. On Sunday, the city of Dedham held their annual Dedham Day. We were able to see some familiar faces and catch up. It was amazing to see the walls come down that had been up in the past, especially among the community volunteers. It was also wonderful to hear how the community was so surprised that we would travel from South Carolina to the Boston area just to be a part of their community and to love them and Encounter Church. It was an amazing few days of reconnecting with Encounter Church and the Community of Westwood and Dedham.

Love Taylors is what we do at Taylors FBC for our community – we serve our neighbors, build on-going relationships, and share the love of Jesus.

BELLA’S BAGS

Linda Fultz, Volunteer Coordinator

...is an outreach ministry of the Good News Club serving at Woodland Elementary School. Four years ago, we were asked to provide weekend food for two students who were experiencing food insecurity. Our ministry has now expanded and we are able to send weekend food bags home with 85 students each Friday. Bella’s Bags is named in memory of Bella Muntean, a former Woodland student who passed away from cancer. God has provided for this ministry through school business partners, parent donations, and giving from the Taylors FBC family. Lowes Food partnered with us early on and provides weekly food donations, recently donating two shopping carts to help deliver Bella’s Bags each week.

BROOK GLENN ELEMENTARY PUMPKIN PATCH

Over the past few months, our Life Group has been eager to get more involved in our community. I decided to reach out to Kathy Dority and shortly after, she copied me on an email about Brook Glenn Elementary School needing an in-house field trip to a pumpkin patch. We quickly responded to take on this event with our Life Group along with others and we are so glad we did. This event gave the kids something to look forward to and they were so excited to see all the fun we had in store for them. Thanks to Staggs Garden Center, we were able to provide each child with their own pumpkin. We also demonstrated a pumpkin carving which a couple of them had never seen before, most of the children got their face painted, and they all got to play some games. I pray these children realize God’s love through our time with them and that Taylors FBC will continue loving on them as well. — John Gauthier TAYLORSFBC.ORG | 11

In Partnership with Community Mission Baptist Church Taylors FBC has partnered with Community Mission Baptist Church since the inception of the Christmas Store. We look forward to this wonderful opportunity for Life Groups and members to be a bright light to those in our community who struggle to provide Christmas gifts for their children and grandchildren. Your donations of new toys and other items such as bicycles, tricycles, dolls, board games, basketballs, and more are offered to families at a greatly discounted price. You can help by donating items or volunteering at the store. Donate new toys, clothing, sporting items, electronics, etc. for children of all ages (birth-teens). Items should be new with price tags attached. Do not wrap gifts, but do include wrapping supplies if possible. Place items in the bins by the Welcome Center no later than November 21. Volunteer for one hour at the store December 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, or 11. Sign up by November 30 in the Church Center App or at taylorsfbc.org/events and choose your time for gift wrapping, greeting, assisting, or parking.

GIVE CHRISTMAS GIFTS

Provide Christmas gifts for Brook Glenn Elementary Students in need! You or your Life Group can sponsor one or more children. The school counselor will provide a list including one outfit with shoes and at least two wish list items requested by parents. Email lovetaylors@taylorsfbc.org by Sunday, November 21 to let us know you want to sponsor a child.

SALVATION ARMY

Ring Bells: November 23 through December 24 | Two-hour Slots, 10:00 am - 8:00 pm Taylors FBC bell ringers collected $3,000 over the previous year for a total of $16,500 at our kettle! This is the fourth year Taylors FBC had the top kettle in the Greenville area. The money collected is used to help people in the Greenville area. In the 2020/2021 year the Army gave twice as much financial help, primarily due to COVID, but the need never decreases. This year we will be ringing at the Taylors Walmart again. Please bring your children, grandchildren, friends, and Life Group to receive a blessing during one or more of our 128 two hour periods. Sign up in the Church Center App or at taylorsfbc.org/events beginning mid-November. 12 | TAYLORSFBC.ORG

Ten families dedicated their children in our Parent/Child Dedication on Sunday, October 17. The Taylors Children Preschool ministry is thankful to partner alongside these parents as they seek wisdom from the Lord in parenting their children.

We believe the church is the body of Christ. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 1 Corinthians 12:27 Christ Himself is the Head of the body. We are committed to following the leadership of Christ in everything we endeavor to do as a church. ...We will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. Ephesians 4:15 The Body is made up of many members who are arranged in the Body just as God wants them to be, and each member belongs to all the others. Therefore, we do not function in isolation but in relationship to other members of the Body. So when you join this church, you belong to all of the other members! In Christ, we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. Romans 12:54 In order to equip the body, God gave each member spiritual gifts. These gifts include such things as serving, teaching, giving, leading, and others. The gifts are intended to prepare God’s people for works of service so that the Body of Christ may be built up. ... to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 3:12-13

HOW HAS GOD GIFTED YOU? Every member has spiritual gifts given by God for the purpose of building up the body of Christ until we all attain to the unity of the faith... Ephesians 4:11-13. Take the Spiritual Gifts Inventory and Sign Up to Serve: taylorsfbc.org/serve TAYLORSFBC.ORG | 13

TAYLORS FAMILY CAMPOUT

Our first annual Campout was a success! More than 100 adults and children enjoyed a night under the stars filled with s’mores, BBQ, hayrides, pumpkin painting, and fun fellowship. We look forward to next year's Family Campout and hope you can join us.

LAKE LURE BOAT TOUR

The weather was absolutely beautiful for twenty-four single adults who went together for a delightful day on Lake Lure. We enjoyed the fellowship together. After the tour, the hungry crowd enjoyed eating on the patio by the mountain stream of Old Rock Cafe at the foot of Chimney Rock. Our driver took a detour on the way home by the Justus Orchard for some fresh apples and a taste of their apple cider donuts. The day was a refreshing change of pace.
