Our focus this year in Taylors Women is to gain a new view of God’s precious Word!
Women in the Word
Mom to Mom
Women in the Word The Women of Taylors FBC are joining together this fall to learn how to study the Word of God for themselves. We’re told in Psalm 1:2 that we are blessed when our delight is in the law of the Lord and when we meditate on that law day and night. It is the desire of our Women’s Ministry Team to see every woman at Taylors FBC equipped to know and engage the Word of God in order to live out the Word in today’s culture. Lin Cunningham, says “It has been a heartwarming experience to witness the vibrant fellowship of women of all ages with diverse walks of life joining together with joyful hearts, smiling faces, warm embraces and an eagerness to study God’s Word together on Wednesday mornings! The excitement is contagious and the rewards are eternal! To God be the glory for this new season in the life of Taylors FBC and Taylors Women in the Word."
Mom to Mom In addition to the study of “Inside Out Parenting,” the women of Mom to Mom began using a new tool this fall to learn to study the Bible for themselves. The following quote is from one of these young Moms: “I was able to read in my study Bible about the book of Joshua. It was during the Holy wars and there were a couple of times they did not seek God first in some decisions and they failed. But, every time they followed God, He went before them and won the battle for them. It’s a very good take away for us to always seek the Lord in every decision we make whether it’s big or small. Making Him the true King of our life and falling under His authority everyday will surely protect us to not fall to any other idols. Some idols today could simply be social media, putting people before God, or even staying busy with housework or a career. Anything that takes our focus off of God and onto something/ someone/ or ourselves can become an idol. Time with the Lord is so precious and special!” 8 | TAYLORSFBC.ORG
We thank God for our Guest Services Team! Team Leaders | Door Greeters Parking Lot Greeters | Ushers | Shuttle Drivers Coffee Bar Volunteers | Worship Counselors These people reflect the love of Jesus as they serve every week. Please join us in thanking them for their faithful service! Below is a note of encouragement to our Guest Services Team from one of our deacons: Thank you for all that you and your team have done and continue to do during these very odd times. The last 18 months have been a time of great need for smiling faces, welcoming attitudes and encouraging hearts. Not only have you and your team been able to do that each Sunday, and whenever called upon, but you have ALL gone above and beyond what would ever be requested. Taylors would not be the church that it is, not have the diverse and welcoming body of believers that it has or be the beacon of hope on the hill that it has become in the community without the first impressions making such a large impact on everyone who comes through the doors. I just wanted to say thank you for all that you do. — A Taylors Deacon

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GIFTS Mt. Zion Baptist Church is thankful for your generous gifts as they ministered to their community following Hurricane Ida. Matthew Smith, Youth Pastor, shared that, "God blessed, and things got back on track after two weeks. We were able to recover quickly because we housed the linemen at our church, and they turned the lights back on in our community within a week. A local church, First Baptist La Place, flooded and suffered four million dollars in damage so some of the funds are going to help this church. Thank you for your help and support!"
Taylors First Baptist Church Playground Dedication
On Sunday, September 12, 2021, our playground was dedicated in honor of Mrs. Jo Bruce. Mrs. Bruce served from 1969 to 1996 as the Kindergarten Director of the Weekday Program now known as Taylors First Pre-Academy. Mrs. Bruce is pictured with her sister, Ann Henson, who worked alongside Mrs. Bruce in our Weekday Program. 10 | TAYLORSFBC.ORG
Love Taylors is what we do at Taylors FBC for our community – we serve our neighbors, build on-going relationships, and share the love of Jesus.
R E F U G E sports WALK IN THE PARK FOR REFUGEES
Saturday, October 9 | Taylors Rec Complex Walk anytime between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. Refuge Sports needs your support to continue our work serving refugees who come to the USA to start their lives over. This year’s “Walk to Refuge” will simply be a walk in the park and you can set your own goal. Walk the 1K tree lined natural path that winds through the Taylors Rec Complex and along a stream. Set your own goal! No registration required. Tax deductible donations accepted at the event or set up at refugesports.org.
GOOD NEWS CLUB Every fall our Good News Club volunteers mobilize and step into Taylors and Woodland Elementary Schools to build relationships and share the love of Jesus with the children. Good News Clubs operate in public schools after school hours, just like other community groups. Research shows that approximately 85% of the children who participate regularly in a Good News Club will make an eternal decision to accept Christ as the Lord of their lives. Our volunteers see the joy the children express as they arrive and experience the songs and Bible stories. School administrators tell us that they can see the difference the Good News Club makes in the children and the school. You can support Child Evangelism Fellowship and our Taylors First Baptist Good News Clubs especially through prayer and/or by volunteering to serve. We also greatly appreciate financial gifts that help provide snacks, handouts, Bibles, and food bags that are sent home with children in need. TAYLORSFBC.ORG | 11

SALVATION ARMY Salvation Army Bell Ringing signups will begin in November! For many years Taylors FBC has partnered with Salvation Army to provide volunteers who serve as bell ringers to collect funds. How has this partnership continued throughout the years? Our dear member, Jim Stovall has been an integral part of our relationship with Salvation Army. Read below as Hal Harbour tells us all about Mr. Stovall.
Jim Stovall: Taylors FBC’s own Dr. J One of 3 children (all college grads), Jim Stovall was born in Elberton, Georgia. He was an Eagle Scout at Elberton High, where he was editor of the school newspaper. Also, he was President and Valedictorian of his senior class. He was the recipient of Elberton’s Native Son Award. Jim’s activities: He enrolled in Clemson College in 1947. While there he was in the Baptist Student Union, became President of the Tiger Brotherhood, and a member of Blue Key national leadership fraternity. In 2017 he received the Alumni Distinguished Service Award. He is a member of the Clemson Corps endowment for ROTC students. In the Korean War, he served in 1952-53 as a First Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers. He co-supervised the construction of a 500-bed hospital which is still operational today. Back in “civvies,” Jim earned a Master of Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech in 1956. He became the first Environmental Engineer for International Paper Co. After that, he served as Vice President of J.E. Sirrine Co., where he founded this company’s Environmental Division. He founded Sirrine Environmental Consultants as a separate company. In 1987, Jim headed the National Paper Industry Environmental Division and was awarded a Fellow designation. In 1957 Jim married his soulmate and co-adventurer, Gloria Perkins. She was an original member of the Christian Ministry Foundation Board and an ardent supporter of Anderson University. She and Jim had two sons and one daughter. They have five grandchildren. They joined Taylors FBC 20 years ago. The Stovalls’ hearts were planted deeply in Taylors FBC and its missionary outreach. Jim served on 15 overseas trips and many more in the U.S. Gloria was with him on all but two. At home, Jim is a deacon, usher, member of the Ministry Housing Committee and Racial Reconciliation Task Team. He leads the Salvation Army’s Bell Ringing Team (yes, he has rung some bells himself). Jim is in his 30th year on the Salvation Army Advisory Board where he is a Lifetime Emeritus Advisory Board member. . Jim served on the SC Baptist Convention Executive Committee 1991-1995. Gloria and Jim served on the SE Baptist Theological Seminary Board of Visitors for 10 years. Jim was elected to the Anderson University Board of Trustees in 1999 and is now a Lifetime Emeritus Trustee. His ongoing connections to Anderson University include: Chairman of Development Committee (10+ years); Chairman of the Board (3 years); Vice Chair of Presidential Search Committee (Dr. Whitaker); and Awarded the Honorary Doctor of Humanities Degree (2021), making him Taylors FBC’s own Dr. J. As though Jim’s and Gloria’s lives weren’t quite complete, Jim served 10 years on the Board of Visitors at North Greenville University. Also, he served for 18 years on the Board of Visitors for Charleston Southern. Why did Jim and Gloria do all these things? Jim tells why in his own words: “Gloria and I freely gave of our time and resources wherever people would have the greatest opportunity to receive Christ.” Gloria is now with Jesus and Jim, recently celebrating his 91st birthday, continues to serve Jesus faithfully. 12 | TAYLORSFBC.ORG

Taylors FBC has partnered with Community Mission Baptist Church (CMBC) since the inception of the store, but COVID concerns in 2020 kept the store from operating. CMBC will be able to operate the store again this year, and we look forward to this wonderful opportunity for Life Groups and members to be a bright light to those in our community who struggle to provide Christmas gifts for their children and grandchildren. Your donations of new toys and other items such as bicycles, tricycles, dolls, board games, basketballs, and more are offered to families at a greatly discounted price.
