DESIGN STRATEGIES The exploration of a Cultural route was explored, connecting iconic heritage nodes and the precinct to the greater Pretoria region. The design accomodates macro and micro scale cultural activities from mobile street vendors to large historical museums. The project aligns specifically with emerging sustainability and resilience design initiatives to illuminate the connection between sustainability and liveable cities. The project will thus investigate a special category of work that has useful implications for new directions in environmental and urban design thinking.

The objective of the collaboration is to define principles and ideas around several critical projects in our city with the ultimate goal to better conceptualize and predict performance before the tendering/implementation phases start. The objective is to connect the Pretoria CBD and Pretoria Station to Salvokop via a link, which will promote and celebrate a non-motorized transport connection.

SECTION A - A THROUGH SITE The objective was to design a multi-functional civic hub for the envisioned future of Salvokop, of which acts as another catalyst that will aid the development of the ‘Connecting Salvokop to Pretoria CBD’ Urban vision. The concept of Shade, Shadow, Shelter, allowed for the exploration of production of space defined by existing site conditions - spatial organisation, appropriated space, scale, activities, culture and identities. Resulting in the creation of space that is locally inspired, grounded, replaces the universal and accommodates diversity and mixed-use spaces.

Sustainability and resilience is explored through passive design principles, energy efficiency, Sustainable material resource use, restored biodiversity and the emotional and physical wellbeing of users. The Czech Embassy complex mission is primarily to express the cultural level of the state and the traditions of Czech architecture within the European and the world context of cultural heritage. HAMMANSKRAAL COMMUNITY CENTRE LOW BUDGET DEVELOPMENT IN A TOWNSHIP SETTLEMENT IN PRETORIA NORTH

The brief consisted of a low budget community centre development in Pretoria North, consisting of classrooms, ablutions, library space, kitchen and community hall. The structures consists of locally sourced materials and a minimal composition framing extensive public landscaping. Sustainabilty practices are implemented by means of passive ventilation, storm water collection systems and the use of natural lighting. CAFE SEATING

The brief consisted of a residential development consisting of two juxtaposing clients; an extroverted lady with a family and introverted man who enjoys privacy. The two residences on the site explore connection and isolation from each other, through circulation and layout, facilitated around a central courtyard space. The street side property actives the street front with a MAIN ENTRANCE

BROOKLYN MALL URBAN CIRCLE LANDSCAPE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE PROJECT

An outdoor extension of Brooklyn Mall, rejuvenating and activating the deteriorated Bronkhorstspruit stream into a public urban circle. The restoration of the stream and programmed market spaces surrounding the terraced urban circle allow for passive surveillance and maintenance of the area. Promoting a safe and walkable site connecting the residential communitiy to Brooklyn mall.
