Autumn Edition

Saturday 2nd April saw Derby Cathedral in association with ‘Those Special Events’, holding our first ‘Jazz Night’. The beautiful building also has great acoustics which made for a delightful evening of musical entertainment.

The first half treated us to some wonderful, haunting and evocative sounds from The Karen Lake Trio. At the interval the bar was open serving wine, fizz and Shiny Brewery’s specially brewed ‘Cathedral Ale’. The second half’s entertainment was the energetic and exciting Ben Holder Quartet. Ben’s dynamic performance had the audience bouncing in the pews and calling for more! 300 people enjoyed the evening and all are looking forward to the next Jazz Night on Saturday 2nd July. Tickets are available from the Cathedral Book Shop or online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/derbycathedral Rachel Morris

DERBY FESTÉ 2016 Derby Feste is an annual festival held in streets parks and locations in Derby city centre. The Feste is now well established and recognised both nationally and internationally This year is the 10th Derby Feste and will be held on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th of September. The arts spectacular will see the return of the giant fire eating dragons (giant robotic creatures). Sarruga a catalan street arts company have created the show and have performed worldwide. The parade starts at the river lights through St Peters and Cathedral Quarters and end up at the market place where live bands will be playing and lots of dancing will happen. Derbys Bass recreation ground will be the setting for the headline act and transformed into a magical underwater extragavanza. Transept Express a French based company will bring a brand new outdoor performance MU, to the event on the Saturday on September 24th. The atmospheric show will transport the spectators to a magic oceanic world with neon sea creatures. They will be elevated on a huge telescopic crane moving and cavorting on the lit surface of the sea with fish and other inhabitants of the sea weaving through the audience on the sea bed. The event will have an interesting soundtrack which will create even more of a spectacular occasion ending with a spine chilling crescendo. Make this a date in your diary it shouldn’t be missed. Situated in Friargate you will find Lorentes Derby’s only authentic Spanish Tapas bar. At times you can imagine being in the Med with background Spanish music, sometimes live acts, and always a good sign with Spanish customers eating here too. This atmospheric bijou bar/restaurant is always busy. David mine host has created a bit of Spain in the city, he is very sociable and will always have time to explain the dishes or what’s on offer. The food is just what you would expect of a Spanish Tapas bar - juicy garlic prawns, potato bravas, sarrano ham carved at the bar (one of my favourites) deep fried calamari, Iberico pork, pan fried sea bass and of course paella, to name but a few. Now after celebrating its second birthday recently why not take a visit, sample some Spanish refreshment and check out the menu. www.lorentes.co.uk | 07508 706 982

Millie Moth Craft “Millie Moth Craft is a small business based in Derby run by maker Karen Johnson. She mainly designs jewellery and upcycles small pieces of vintage furniture and is happy to accept commissions. Commissions can be any custom made item from costume jewellery designed for a special occasion or to match a particular outfit, to personalised handmade signs, to a vintage cupboard styled in a quirky way to suit your decor’s theme. Another pretty unique service she offers is jewellery repairs and alterations. After noticing how many workshops there were for silversmithing, Karen realised there wasn’t a business you could go to, to mend a costume piece such as a favourite bracelet, or turn hook earrings into clip-ons, or alter the length of a necklace. As a jewellery maker several of her friends and family had asked for their pieces to be tweaked which led her to offering this service through the post at a reasonable cost to others. Matching items can also be designed too, e.g. earrings made to match a favourite necklace, or new beads added to inject new life into a lackluster piece. You can always guarantee a Millie Moth Craft piece will be made with love! Karen’s keen interest in colour and design means her work combines beautiful tones with quirky design detail. Her latest summer jewellery features gemstone anklets on rose gold tone chain and gorgeous raw gemstone pendant necklaces, and she has a stunning range of gemstone and crystal sun catchers. You can buy Karen’s work in her Millie Moth Craft shop within Etsy.com, which is a fabulous online craft and vintage market place featuring thousands of talented makers from around the world - well worth a look! Her website milliemothcraft.com showcases many of her past and current creations, as well as information about Karen herself and links to all the services she offers. She’ll also be selling her work at Sheena Holland’s Denby Heritage Market on October 16th later this year!”

Think habit not diet... Amanda Supple

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit” –Aristotle Weight, health and diets Obesity is linked to several life-threatening illnesses including: heart disease, strokes, high blood pressure, certain cancers, arthritis and type 2 diabetes. This now costs the NHS £6.4bn per year, as more than half of the UK adult population is overweight and one in four obese. Experts predict this to more than double by 2050. Yet just four decades ago, obesity affected only one person in 50. What has caused us to become so overweight and unhealthy in such a short space of time? Compared to forty years ago, our eating and lifestyle habits have changed substantially. Our portion sizes have increased but our physical activity has decreased. In addition, we now consume far more processed foods, many of which are unhealthy, highly calorific, readily available and relatively cheap to buy. These are full of sugar, refined carbohydrates, unhealthy fats, salt and additives which when combined gives them an ‘addictive’ element that encourages over eating.

The simplest and healthiest way to reduce your weight is to make it a habit to base your meals around unprocessed foods as these will ‘feed’ your body with the vital nutrients it requires to be healthy and will satisfy your appetite. Unprocessed plant foods including: fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, pulses (beans, lentils, and chickpeas), nuts and seeds are especially beneficial for weight loss because they contain fibre. Fibre is vital for a healthy gut and our general well-being, particularly soluble fibre. This fills us up, suppresses the appetite and reduces hunger, so we are less likely to overeat or snack in between meals. It also slows down the release of energy from our food, which means it is more likely to be used during physical activities rather than stored as body fat.

About the author Amanda is a qualified Nutritionist (BSc) and Personal Trainer (Level 3) with over 18 years’ experience as fitness instructor. Her healthy fat loss programme, The S Plan, has helped dozens of people lose weight and become fitter and healthier in the process. She has recently made this programme into a book now available to buy at her website: www.s-plan.co.uk

Since the 1970s as we have grown fatter, ironically so has the ‘UK’s diet industry’: now worth over two billion pounds. Evidently, diets are not the answer. In fact, an estimated 95% of dieters fail to lose weight permanently, regaining any weight lost within a year. The reality is, most diets set us up to fail, by offering only a temporary change to our eating and lifestyle habits, so that once the diet ends and former habits The converse is true of many return, so too will the weight. Permanent fat loss requires us to make permanent changes to the habits that processed foods, especially: pastries, white bread, cakes, are making and keeping us fat. biscuits, crisps, ready meals, Make it a habit to eat… fast foods, commercial cereals, fruit juice, sugary less of these foods drinks and sweets. These foods lack essential nutrients & more of these foods especially fibre, encourage our bodies to store fat, increase appetite and create cravings for more of these foods. I always say to my clients, ‘If a food has its own TV commercial, avoid it!’

Processed foods high in sugars, bad

Unprocessed foods good fats and cabs, salt and additives vitamins, minerals and fibre

My Book ‘The S Plan’ contains dozens of tasty, healthy recipes that are easy to prepare and will help you lose fat without going hungry. I have included two of my most popular recipes below.

Stroll in the Park... Darley park is a short distance away from the city centre. It’s a stunning park for a leisurely walk, exercising your dog, picnics or taking in its natural beauty. It’s situated at the beginning of the Derwent Valley Mills world heritage site along side the river Derwent. The park was given to the city by the Evans family who acquired it in the early 1800s and who owned the local Darley Abbey mills . It was opened by HRH the Duke of Kent in 1931 and a Cedar tree was planted to commemorate the event still there today. Going further back in Medieval times it belonged to the largest and important monastic institution the house of Augustinian canons established in 1137. You can find several entrances and a car park near the Abbey public house in Darley Abbey. There is a popular cafe in the surviving building of the old hall that was demolished in the 1960s which is dog friendly. Sometimes they put live music on in the summer months, there are also toilet facilities. The Hydrangea collection is the largest in Britain and can be found in the gardens near the cafe. There is also a Butterfly garden and the nectar of the plants attract various varieties of Butterfly. One of the most interesting features of the park is a tree trail that starts from the terraced cafe with approximately 30 examples of trees, leaflets explaining the trail can be found in the cafe or at the Derby tourist centre shop in the market place. The Victorians were great collectors ,trees and shrubs from all over the world can be found in the park. The park is also home to the two city rowing clubs Derwent and Derby and you can often see the boats up and down the river. On a sunny day in the season watching the cricket at the local cricket club is a pleasant pastime. There is a play area for children, orienteering facilities and in the newly converted stables behind the cafe you can find the body and mind Pilates studio. Sadly the annual concert in the park which had been going for many years in September has now been discontinued due to funding. This was the largest free concert in Europe with orchestras performing and a spectacular firework Hopefully it may return! Any sponsors display at the finale. out there...

Postcards from Palma

Fancy a short break, try Palma in Mallorca. It couldn’t be easier to get there, fly from East Midlands and less than two and half hours later you’ve arrived at Palma International Airport. The Airport is the third largest in Spain, however easy to navigate and only five miles from the capital city of Palma. You can hire a taxi about 20 euros, catch the number 1 bus about 3 euros that takes you into the centre of Palma or of course hire a car. Palma is the capital of the Balearics, a buzzing city with its history, culture and cuisine, oozing a cosmopolitan atmosphere. There is a vast selection of hotels available from boutique hotels, bed and breakfasts etc. The Saratoga central Palma is impressive with a popular jazz bar on the top floor overlooking the rooftops of the city. I often prefer to stay in Playa de Palma which is a short distance from Palma where they are quality hotels at cheaper prices, you also benefit from miles of sandy beaches and wide range of restaurants overlooking the sea.

If you like visiting churches the church of Santa Eulalia adjacent to a square of the same name is surrounded by street cafés and restaurants, has beautiful stained glass windows, see them in the sunlight it’s very impressive. On Carrer de Sant Miguel the oldest Christian church can be found with a beautiful interior. Knowing where to start is difficult there is so much to investigate. Close to the Cathedral is a 15th century seafront building known as LlotJa, it resembles a small palace or church but was in fact built as the city’s exchange for trading and now has become a cultural centre hosting exhibitions. In front of the buildings are a selection of fine restaurants with outside seating, lovely in the day but atmospheric at night. Across from there I often walk along the seafront take in the bay sit at a tapas bar and admire the yachts along the harbour. Opposite the Cathedral is one of my favourite areas of Palma, narrow streets in all directions, full of bars restaurants and whilst some are open in the day the majority come alive at night and no visit is complete without refreshment in ABACO. Incredibly designed in an old courtyard and possibly one of the most romantic bars I’ve ever been to. Fresh flowers fruit and candles adorn everywhere, outside is a garden with a central fountain, an abundance of perfumed candles, flowers, an avery with exotic birds, great classic background music with a museum on its upper floors. This is definitely a place to chill and relax Close by there is a bar/restaurant up a small incline called ES BALUARD next to the museum of contemporary art where you can find pieces and sculptures by Cezanne Picasso and local artists. The bar overlooks the bay of Palma sells appetising food and the views on a sunny day are impressive.

One way to see the city is The first thing that stands out when you reach Palma is by horse and the impressive Gothic Roman Catholic Cathedral built carriage which on the site of a former Arab mosque known locally as La can be found at Seu, is a must to look round inside. the bottom of

...Take a Break! the Cathedral steps. There are several avenue promenades passeig des born resembling Barcelonas ramblas and is one of them, with flower shops, outdoor coffee bars and benches where you can sit and people watch and the scene of many cultural events. I drop by on occasions to the Gran Hotel a former historic hotel completed in 1903. As well as selling coffee cakes etc it is now home to exhibitions and is one of the most important examples of modernisme in Mallorca the facade has lavish sculptures and ceramics, it’s just a great place to relax Opposite the cafe you will find FORN DES TEATRE. A former bakery dating back to the 19th century it specialises in ensaimadas a classic Mallorcan pastry the cafe next to it which they acquired later serves typical Spanish dishes and specialist Spanish foods from the island. As you leave the bakery a short walk will take you to Placa Major the old town main square where you will find shops street entertainers artists outdoor cafés restaurants and so I was told one of the best ice cream shops in Palma. The site was formerly a monastery. There are several entrances/exits to the square look out for one that leads to an abundance of shops in narrow streets and alleyways. There is a lively atmosphere as you amble past lots of fashion and gift shops and take a look at the facades you will see examples of the Spanish version of art nouveau “modernista” There is so much to take in you may come across bar espana a popular watering hole with lots of tapas on offer. If you fancy a coffee or a bite to eat try the cappuccino grand cafe situated in a converted palacios where you will find Mallorcan specialities, there is also an attractive sunny outside garden area,

The narrow gauge railway was built in 1912 From the profits of the orange and lemon trade it’s a lovely old train that travels through the mountains and in a lush valley of orange groves with splendid views and it usually stop on the way so you can take photos. Once there head for the main square and enjoy the atmosphere, there is a Neo-Gothic church and many

One day you must visit the markets, in particular MERCAT DE OLIVER it’s very large and bustling. The seafood is one part of the market the other is dedicated to fruit and veg cheeses and amazing selection of meats and olives. The market also has several stalls selling food to eat like sushi and tapas where you can sit with a glass of wine, it’s perfect, though if you want to see the large variety of fish on offer I would go early. There is place bar I enjoy that’s quite original introduced to me by Bil and Rikki from Derby who originally opened the successful Zest restaurant in George street. They then opened a restaurant in Palma sold it and now enjoy the delights of Palmas weather and social life. The bar or bars are set in an old abattoir (Similar set out to the Guildhall market hall) the building houses several interesting international and local tapas bars it’s called SAN JUAN GASTRONOMIC MARKET it’s fresh gastronomic with the popular Vermouth they call it vermout on offer and cocktail bars. THERES MORE

For a good excursion a trip to Soller is a must. Soller is a town near the north west coast of Mallorca you can catch the ferrocarril de soller in Palma. The station is near the Placa Espanya where many of the buses arrive and depart to other parts of the Island.

pastry and gift shops, try the fresh orange juice delicious. Quite a lot of people holiday here. There is also the port of soller close by which can be reached by a tram journey. The trams are ex San Francisco rolling stock that take you down to the horseshoe harbour where once again you will find hotels cafés and restaurants.

...Palma...Relax! One trend I noticed this visit is the pinchos bars rather than Tapas. These little delicacies are rather like canapés on sticks, the name pinchos means sticks there are generally two sizes the larger the stick the more they cost however they’re not expensive either one or two euros they count the sticks and that’s what you pay. Of course there’s a lot more to see in this beautiful city than I’ve suggested there’s the Arab baths “banYs Arabs” the 10th century bath house a reminder of the moorish architecture there’s Bellver castle one of Europes fairy tale castles, although a prison for 700 years it’s now a museum.

hall a fine square. Close by is Puro Beach the classy trendy beach bar, to name but a few. One thing you will notice is the vast amount of cyclists every where you go its a very popular pastime with many groups of cyclists from all over the world can be seen around the island at any time many hotels especially just outside Palma hire out bikes it’s a great way to get around. Well it’s been a hot day yet again and the sun is setting time to get back to chilly England well it is April after all. Til the next time

There’s the numerous luxury shops for the ladies with EL corte inglÉs a huge department store in the centre of Palma as well as C&A to make you feel at home and placa cort near the town

All The World’s a Stage!...

.... And all the men and women merely players; As you like it, Act II, Scene VII

This year the World will commemorate 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare and on his anniversary the Derby Shakespeare Society sent me this little very interesting info. Did you know there are many phrases in use today that originated from Shakespeares writings here are a few.. If you cannot understand my argument, and declare ``It’s Greek to me’’, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you claim to be more sinned against than sinning, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you recall your salad days, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you act more in sorrow than in anger; if your wish is farther to the thought; if your lost property has vanished into thin air, you are quoting Shakespeare; if you have ever refused to budge an inch or suffered from green-eyed jealousy, if you have played fast and loose, if you have been tongue-tied, a tower of strength, hoodwinked or in a pickle, if you have knitted your brows, made a virtue of necessity, insisted on fair play, slept not one wink, stood on ceremony, danced attendance (on your lord and master), laughed yourself into stitches, had short shrift, cold comfort or too much of a good thing, if you have seen better days or lived in a fool’s paradise -why, be that as it may, the more fool you , for it is a foregone conclusion that you are (as good luck would have it) quoting Shakespeare; if you think it is early days and clear out bag and baggage, if you think it is high time and that that is the long and short of it, if you believe that the game is up and that truth will out even if it involves your own flesh and blood, if you lie low till the crack of doom because you suspect foul play, if you have your teeth set on edge (at one fell swoop) without rhyme or reason, then – to give the devil his due – if the truth were known (for surely you have a tongue in your head) you are quoting Shakespeare; even if you bid me good riddance and send me packing, if you wish I was dead as a door-nail, if you think I am an eyesore, a laughing stock, the devil incarnate, a stony-hearted villain, bloody-minded or a blinking idiot, then – by Jove! O Lord! Tut tut! For goodness’ sake! What the dickens! But me no buts! - it is all one to me, for you are quoting Shakespeare. Bernard Levin

Seven Restaurant Restaurant Seven in Pride Park opened its doors in 2013 Helen Salloway the proprietor has worked extremely hard to provide Derby with a first class restaurant serving the hub of business clients and general public alike in a city that is sorely lacking in high end eateries. Helen spent many months researching designs menus and ideas in high profile cities particularly London and Manchester in order to get the venues best potential, in fact put this restaurant in Soho or Mayfair where you will find many quality gastronomic delights,it wouldn’t look out of place. The design of the building has had a lot of thought behind it from the bar, dining area the large spacious stairwell. Even the private Dining Rooms on the upper floor ideal for network or corporate events as well as most importantly the rest rooms, you can always judge a place by its WCs The tables chairs lighting, outdoor terrace back bar have been perfectly introduced to conjour up an atmospheric environment for business meetings, party celebrations or romantic dining. Much of a red wine drinker I am I always head for a glass of their chilled San Abello Sauvignon Blanc white wine,it’s quite dry and the best I’ve sampled round these parts. On the particular evening I recently dined with a business colleague. From an extensive starter choice I tried the soft shell crab spice coated, with kimchi slaw and preserved lemon mayonnaise ,absolutely delicious just enough to leave you ready for that main course. Now I’m a big fish fan and in particular Hake I love the taste especially pan roasted, (unfortunately most restaurants seem to go for Sea Bass or Trout) ,it was served with Serrano Ham my favourite Spanish meat, they must have known I was coming together with lovely textured mash sweet pea purée and red pepper oil. I couldn’t help noticing my colleagues Duck Breast and confess I had a taste of the Duck yum beautifully cooked nice and pink with a piquant sharp jus. The choice of puddings was superb the prosecco jelly I’m sure will appeal to the ladies,I’m a cheese man myself and the British and continental selection was inviting with a perfect variety of cheeses. Altogether a very enjoyable experience and time passed by too quickly my colleague was impressed and will certainly return. One comment I should mention was the service, Lucy our waitress was extremely attentive and polite and Campbell utterly charming and professional. If you’ve never been it’s well worth a visit,on some occasions they have live music, just ask at the bar and they will let you know what’s on. sevenrestaurant.co.uk | 01332 332277

Reviews Retold is a series of exciting new plays commissioned by Derby Theatre with a view to tell classic plays with a new fresh approach. Jinny is a girl of 25 and transports the character of jimmy Porter into present day Derby she is a singer songwriter with dreams of stardom but going nowhere. She’s talented strong focused followed the normal routes but is that enough can she reach her goal or will the opportunities escape her. Jinny was commissioned by Derby theatre and written by Jane Wainwright and was a response to John Osbournes Look Back In Anger and staged during its recent showing Jinny (Joanna Simpkins) was a one woman play. She played the part with excellence, it was absolutely superb a fast moving piece funny with music and references to Derby full marks and I hope it returns one day. It could have been the West End,a set in TVs Benidorm or a night out in Las Vagas, but no it was Derby market place on a Sunday evening. I’d heard good reports on their previous visits so this time I made sure I would see them. I wasn’t disappointed. The energetic Caberet was sensational, full of glamour, glitz, incredible costume changes, you would be transported into a musical fantasy production with fast moving songs from musicals chart hits, dazzling choreography that was totally entertaining. If it comes next year make sure you get a ticket you will not be disappointed,oh and if your a bloke I wouldn’t sit on the front row unless you fancy being part of the show. As part of Derbys annual film festival the Cathedral was the perfect backdrop to the 1923 screening of the American film the Hunchback of Notre Dam starring Lou Chaney as Quadimodo the deaf half bind bell ringer based on the Victor Hugo novel. Set in Paris in 1482, Chaney was acclaimed for his performance. The silent movie was accompanied by the Cathedrals 1938 Crompton organ played by David McKenzie the organist of the Odean Leicester Sq who provided an atmospheric improvised backdrop.

Derby Rowing Club was a revelation to me, I was 15 years old and in awe of the members, the club, the boats, everything seemed amazing. I joined the novice squad of rowers aged from 16 to 25 and who were just as excited as myself about rowing. Our coach was the late Carl Smith, a truly inspirational man, a rowing double World Champion. He always encouraged us, teaching us the golden rule “you only get out of life what you put in”. This is the ethos I try to live my life by to this day. The training was easy at first, then increased almost weekly to a point quite quickly when we were training 6/7 sessions a week. His ap-

After leaving Nottingham University, I moved to London and attempted to gain selection into the British lightweight team, which resulted in being selected to row in the World University Rowing Championships. Here, I represented GB in a coxless four and won a bronze medal in Graveline in France. This inspired me to apply to The Oxford University. I was accepted and I then joined the Oxford University Boat Club (OUBC) in September of last year. The same ethos was at OUBC with our coach Sean Bowden having connections with both my previous coaches Carl and Ray. Sean Bowden is a very special coach, leaving no stone unturned in the preparation of his crews. His expectations of his athletes are high and he demands total professionalism. We average 40hrs a week training including rowing, the dreaded ergs, weights, runs and so on, all whilst keeping on top of our academic work and deadlines. Sometimes sleep is a luxury you just can’t afford.

“Time and Tide wait for no man” ...(or woman) The final Blue Boat crew is not selected until around two weeks before the actual Boat Race, so you can imagine the stress of continually fighting for your place from September up until the crew announcement in March. You can never afford to take a day off, training was relentless and yes, I even had to train on Christmas day! People ask me if the result was painful? I can honestly answer, yes it was the most painful thing I have ever experienced both psychologically, and physically, the pain was unbearable Losing to Cambridge was never an option in my mind for seven months until they crossed the line in front of us. But would I do it again? Yes, in a heartbeat, it was the most incredible experience of my life and to stand proud with my crew and say to myself I’m an Oxford Blue is an incredible feeling. I’m not quite sure what the rest of this year will bring just yet, but I do know one thing, none of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of my parents and all the amazing coaches I’ve been lucky enough to have help me to improve, both physically and mentally.

Above all, I guess that initial feeling of excitement and amazement when I first walked through the doors of Derby Rowing Club, wondering where this sport of rowing, would take me, has stuck with me. Little did I know then that rowing would take me all over the world to places including Russia, Malaysia, Croatia, Spain, Portugal and France, meeting so many incredible people along the way.’ Henry Royal Regatta 2016 June 29th - July 3rd - Henley-on-Thames

The In The QUARTER

Born in 2000, The Bookcafe was the dream of originally a book & gift shop in a Derby suburb with a dream of becoming a cafe as well. In 2003 we opened our first city centre cafe, book & gift shop in The Eagle Centre (now Intu) with 6 cafe tables and an extremely tiny open kitchen! We outgrew this site &, in October 2009 opened The Bookcafe in the Quarter at 21 Cornmarket in this beautifully restored Grade 2 listed Victorian banking hall. We’re open from 8am for breakfast through to lunch to 6pm serving a huge variety freshly prepared, often locally sourced food & drinks. On Friday & Saturday evenings we dim the lights, fire up the pizza oven, chill the wine and turn from a bustling daytime cafe to a candle lit restaurant with table service & live acoustic music until 11pm. We promise you a warm welcome, freshly made, tasty food. Last year our amazing & vast building had the upper floors, which were virtually derelict, renovated. We’ve created a stunning bar & private hire rooms on the first floor in which we’ve hosted many celebrations from christenings, birthday & Christmas parties to wedding receptions. Just ask one of the team about hiring our first floor; it’s the perfect space for up to 80 guests. New for 2016 Those of you who are familiar with The Bookcafe will know that we never stand still, we’re always looking to improve upon what we do, introducing new dishes, ideas & concepts. This beautiful building seats 100 at any one time and we regularly have large group bookings in the evening for a fabulous table banquet. We have also hosted group breakfast bookings which is a perfect morning after tonic for post parties & get togethers such as weddings & birthdays.

The Gin Palace We’ve noticed that most of our Private Hire bookings are on a Saturday evening so, never ones to waste space or an opportunity, we’re opening our gorgeous first floor bar & rooms on Friday evenings from the end of May. We love Gin (and tonic!) & have sourced 21 gins from to serve in our 21 Cornmarket bar, we’ll still be serving our usual wines, beers, ciders & cocktails if Gin is not your tipple. The Gin Palace be open every Friday from 7.30pm, come & say hi! Afternoon Teas Starting June 2016 we’ll be launching our afternoon tea menu, with or without Prosecco, perfect for a catch up natter with a friend or a special celebration.
