Mixed-Use Environments Market Street at The Woodlands – The Woodlands, Texas TBG employed a small-town Texas aesthetic to generate urban appeal at Market Street at The Woodlands, creating a long-absent town center with a dynamic sense of history. This 35-acre, mixed-use lifestyle center is a walkable, pedestrian-oriented development incorporating activated, historicized urban streetscapes, each of which is uniquely tailored to relate to a specific period in Texas history, creating a distinct sense of place. TBG’s design for Market Street combines a central park, stylized courtyards, interactive water features and site furnishings to develop prominent and accommodating points of interest throughout the site while respecting The Woodlands’ established development regulations. Now a hub of community activity, Market Street is host to weekly jazz concerts, community festivals and holiday gatherings. Market Street has received an array of awards since its completion, including a 2007 Honor Award from the Texas chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA).

Domain II – Austin, Texas Domain II is the second phase of a walkable, mixed-use development in north Austin with innovative features and outdoor places of interest. Domain II’s linear nature allowed for an axial promenade to seamlessly link the succession of spaces. Rain gardens traverse both sides of a central spiral fountain, serving as vegetated corridors that offer visual interest and provide multiple stages of biofiltration. Additional elements include a radial fire pit area enclosed by a 30-foot-long seat wall exhibiting the mosaic “Hill Country Birds,” a multipurpose, depressed activity lawn, performance areas and integrated seating throughout.

Watters Creek – Allen, Texas TBG provided site planning and landscape architectural services for Watters Creek, a 42.7-acre, mixed-use lifestyle development in Allen, Texas. An innovative take on the traditional town center, TBG’s landscape design creates a resort-style atmosphere through the use of embellished streetscapes that foster a walkable shopping and entertainment experience. A number of promenades link various residential, retail, entertainment and office components while an existing natural pond and creek integrate into the site’s open space, resulting in a relaxing public environment for both passive and active use.

Seaholm Power Plant Redevelopment – Austin, Texas TBG is part of the project team assembled to plan and design the redevelopment of Seaholm Power Plant and its surrounding site in downtown Austin. A dynamic, around-the-clock environment is envisioned for the site where residents and visitors can live, work and play. The reuse concept for this Art Deco building incorporates commercial, retail and exhibition space into an existing cultural setting. The site redevelopment will include the erection of a two-story commercial structure and a 10-story residential and hotel tower featuring ground-floor retail linked to Seaholm by an outdoor plaza. In addition, the site design links Seaholm to the Town Lake trail system and includes a transit hub anticipating the arrival of Austin’s light rail system. Seaholm is seeking LEED® certification.

Spectrum – Pearland, Texas Spectrum is a sustainably minded planned development that capitalizes on a prominent location and its infrastructure to create growth through technology, entertainment and leisure opportunities. The project site enjoys convenient access to downtown Houston, is the largest and most-accessible tract near the heart of Houston, and has natural features including lakes, trees and Clear Creek. The development will include distinct districts including a lakeshore leisure district with fine dining, mid-rise residential towers, and a hotel and conference center; a city center with retail and event facilities; a technology and innovation cluster based on smart grid technology with R&D facilities; and other districts offering an inviting mix of uses.

Imperial Sugar Tract – Sugar Land, Texas The historic Imperial Sugar refinery is undergoing a transformation into a vibrant mixed-use development that pays homage to its rich historical character while incorporating modern amenities and environmental sensibilities. TBG’s master plan will adaptively reuse the brownfield site’s existent infrastructure—factories, warehouses, smoke stacks, machinery, etc.—to create a dynamic environment with enhanced social, cultural, environmental and economic character. This long-term project stems from a robust public-private partnership and seeks to meet objectives for historic preservation, aesthetics and economic development. The project includes the preservation of a large on-site wetland, and Oyster Creek meanders through the site, providing opportunities for compelling views and activities along the waterfront.

Urban Lifestyle Developments The Austonian – Austin, Texas For the 56-story residential high-rise, The Austonian, TBG created a development strategy that will increase density and promote a greater mix of uses and connectivity in the city’s central business district. In addition, TBG provided landscape architectural and sustainable design services, developing terraces on the 10th and 55th floors that incorporate green roof and rainwater-harvesting systems, native and adaptive plants, gardens, private cabanas, pools, hot tubs, fountains, fire places and a dog park.

Solis Hotel Doha – Doha, Qatar Solis Hotel Doha is a bold and contemporary resort destination that will be a lavish vacation getaway in Qatar. Set within a bustling urban environment with significant street frontage and many retail outlets, Solis features a landscape design that uniquely responds to the architect’s design concept while integrating the intricate details of Islamic culture. In addition to responding to the architect’s modern design and Qatari culture, the landscape design had to withstand the setting’s hot, arid climate, which resulted in a sophisticated and welcoming design with abundant shade opportunities.

Park Seventeen – Dallas, Texas Working with the architect, TBG created an urban landscape design for Park Seventeen, a mixed-use high-rise complex that includes 17,000 square feet of fine dining and retail space, a 25-story residential tower and a 19-story office tower with amenity deck. The modern design complements existing architecture in the surrounding neighborhoods and provides tenants dramatic views of downtown Dallas and the much-anticipated Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge designed by renowned bridge architect Santiago Calatrava. TBG’s design includes an infinity edge pool, wood deck, terraced areas with artificial turf lawn, plant material, pavers, concrete and other hardscape elements—all furnished with sun chairs and other outdoor accoutrements.

Hunt Consolidated Headquarters – Dallas, Texas TBG developed an extraordinary plan for Hunt Consolidated’s Dallas headquarters that articulates the relationship between architecture and landscape, built and organic, interior and exterior. The design is emphasized by coordinated interior and exterior fountain designs and a seamless integration between the outdoor environs and interior spaces. The choreographed elliptical fountain wrapping the building’s front facade seemingly permeates the tower’s downstairs lobby, while an eighth-floor rooftop garden affords an inimitable space with stunning vistas and an array of native and adaptive plants. Drought-tolerant plants were used exclusively and are watered by a highly efficient drip irrigation system.

Saint Ann Court – Dallas, Texas Standing 26 stories tall, Saint Ann Court instantly became the tallest building in Uptown Dallas upon completion in fall 2009. This bold high-rise office tower features two 2,500-square-foot roof terraces that function as outdoor gathering rooms and can accommodate small meetings as well as office-wide events. The terraces offer comfortable, safe and usable outdoor space of a refined aesthetic. Overhead trellises, raised pedestal paver walkways, plantings with minimal water needs, and raised Ipe decking with granite accent bands and granite pot pedestals define the spaces. One of the 23rd floor terraces offers panoramic views of downtown Dallas and Victory Park while the other looks out onto Uptown and Park Cities.
