2023 NSW BREEDERS’ AWARDS & CHARITY RACE DAY
TBNSW Awards presented at Run to The Rose Charity Race Day in support of Kick Up for Racing
Thoroughbred Breeders New South Wales Annual Awards were presented at the Australian Turf Club Run to The Rose Day on September 9 at Rosehill gardens celebrated by ATC Board, breeders, sponsors and guests.
Once again, the awards highlighted that the majority of Australian’s racing champions are bred in NSW. TBNSW President Hamish Esplin introduced the awards with newly appointed ATC Board Member, Bred to Win founder and event host Caroline Searcy, ensuring the day ran smoothly.
TBNSW sponsors presented the trophies to a wideranging group of award winners with representatives on hand from HQ Insurance, Horsepower Feeds and Supplements, G1 Goldmine, IRT, Carrazzo Consulting and the Australian Turf Club.

The Champion Broodmare Award was sponsored by G1 GOLDMINE and won by Anamato (Redoute’s Choice) from Godolphin, dam of multiple 9-time Group One winner Anamoe. The award was accepted by John Sunderland of Godolphin and presented by Niamh Hanson- G1 Goldmine’s Marketing Manager.
The IRT Champion NSW Broodmare Sire title went to Redoute’s Choice (Danehill). The award was accepted by Jon Freyer, Arrowfield Stud’s Bloodstock Manager and presented by Edward Feddies IRT Sydney Operations Manager. Redoute’s Choice died in 2019 but his legacy lives on through his stallion descendants such as Snitzel, The Autumn Sun and King’s Legacy. His daughters produced racetrack stars the past season that included Anamoe, Hitotsu, Profondo, Regal Power and more. Redoute’s Choice was also named Champion Australian broodmare sire for the 4th time.
New sponsor to TBNSW in 2023 is Breedr and in line with the concept and vison of Breedr, a newly appointed award for Innovation was given to Inglis Digital. The award was presented by Breedr Director Tom Seymour to Inglis Digital Business Manager Nick Melmeth. Inglis Digital has changed the format of traditional bloodstock sales. Launched in 2017 it offers vendors and buyers a simple and convenient service for trading all facets of bloodstock through a trusted name with a wealth of experience. Both vendors and buyers alike can take comfort out of the fact that the new online selling format is backed by the tried-and-true services of a regular Inglis sale.
The Australian Turf Club NSW Champion 2YO Sire was presented to Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) the award received by Jon Freyer, Bloodstock Manager of Arrowfield Stud by ATC Director Tim Hale . Best performing progeny of Snitzel for 2023 season was Shinzo winning G1 2023 Golden Slipper and G3 Pago Pago Stakes.
The Horsepower NSW Champion First Season Sire award was won by Coolmore’s Justify (Scat Daddy USA). Justify produced Learning to Fly who went on to win G2 ATC Reisling Stakes and G3 ATC Widden Stakes. in 2020. The award was presented by Stephen Lamb, National Marketing Manager to Tom Moore of Coolmore.
The NSW President’s Breeder Of The Year Award, sponsored by Carrazzo Consulting and presented by Paul Carrazzo, was won St Aubin’s Partnership. Accepting the award was Alister Fraser on behalf of Dr Nairn and Mrs. Kate Fraser, the owners of the Group 1 BRC Queensland Oaks winning mare Amokura (Kermadec (AUS) x Fain (AUS).
Presenting the HQ Insurance Champion NSW Sire award was Dr Andrew Dart to co-owners of Yarraman Park’s I Am Invincible Brett Gall. A regular on the top three on the national sires-list, I Am Invincible’s top earner in 2022-23 was In Secret.
Thoroughbred Breeders’ New South Wales congratulates all the winners, and we look ahead to more racetrack success from NSW breeders in the current season.
Fundraising after the awards’ presentation raised $9,500 for Kick Up For Racing. From auction items very generously donated by Coolmore Stud, Godolphin Stud, Vinery Stud and Silverdale Farm.
