The Three Village Historical Society in Setauket continues its virtual lecture series with the Jupiter Hammon Project: Confronting Slavery at Joseph Lloyd Manor via Zoom at 7 p.m. Guest speaker Darren St. George, Preservation Long Island’s Director of Education and Public Programs, will outline the development, execution, and findings of Preservation Long Island’s three virtual roundtables which took place in 2020 from August to October to develop a more relevant and equitable interpretation of Joseph Lloyd Manor, a site that enslaved generations of people of African descent, including Jupiter Hammon (1711–ca.1806), one of the earliest published African American authors.
