College/Community

Welcome to the 61st Annual TCDA Convention! On behalf of the TCDA Board of Directors, I want to sincerely thank you for making TCDA a part of your summer. I enjoy seeing exchanges and collaborations between choir directors on social media. But just like in life, nothing beats face to face interactions, does it? Imagine directing a choir on Facebook! Seeing friends and colleagues is one of the things I look forward to the most. It revives my soul! I know you’ll have many opportunities to restore and reinvigorate yourself for the coming year. This board has worked diligently since last Fall to bring you a wonderful offering of convention workshops, honor choirs, concerts, worship services, and reading sessions. Enjoy! We’ve packed a lot of activities into these three days in our fancy, new convention center facilities! (Did you pack your pedometer?) In addition, I would like to strongly encourage you to spend time in the exhibit hall. We have the best vendors in the world, and without their attendance and investment, we would have a very different convention. They have lots to offer, so please make time to see them. But let’s not forget about social media altogether! Be sure to include us in your TCDA journey. Post on our TCDA Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. #iamtcda Have a great time in San Antonio and have a wonderful choir year!

This Curriculum from “Orchestra Expressions Book 1 and 2” features a wide variety of music from many cultures, styles and time periods, enabling musical visits to six continents. From the very first lessons, learning to play is also tied in with the study of great masterpieces of music (“Beethoven 9”, “Brandenburg 5”, “Firebird”, “Academic Festival Overture”, etc.) their composers, other arts relating to time and style periods, and threaded with corresponding historical events, scientific discovery and inventions. First steps in music theory, original composition and improvisation are also included. Recorded accompaniments feature authentic performance practice and actual traditional instruments from many cultures (dombak, oud, sitar, tabla, koto, didgeridoo, jaws harp, steel pans, mandolin and many others) as well as easy versions of symphonic masterpieces. There are musical examples celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan and Kwanzaa. Enjoy the tour!
