Why We Care... For more than 40 years, The Community Foundation Serving Richmond and Central Virginia has been committed to promoting philanthropy in the region by helping to connect donors with causes that match their interests. That is why, in 2010, we were pleased to launch GiveRichmond.org, in collaboration with Guidestar and 14 other local funders. GiveRichmond is a free online resource that gives anyone interested in enhancing the quality of life in Central Virginia an opportunity to find in-depth information about hundreds of LOCAL nonprofits. GiveRichmond delivers the transparency donors need to make the kinds of decisions that turn a simple act of giving into a wise investment. You can access comprehensive financial, governance and programmatic details about your favorite organizations or new ones that you have yet to discover. You can learn about community issues and needs, and then identify organizations working in those areas. Finally, you can give to nonprofits through direct credit card giving, a fund at The Community Foundation, charitable giving cards and/or volunteer opportunities. In 2012, The Community Foundation plans to publish a series of Needs Assessments designed to highlight organizations that have portraits in GiveRichmond and their most pressing needs. Over the course of the year, these needs assessments will feature organizations by issue area – housing, arts and culture, educational enrichment and so on. All of the current needs listed were submitted directly from the nonprofits in our community and are in their voice. Please support these organizations as they provide essential programs and services to our community. When reviewing the Needs Assessment, please use the following guide to determine the types of needs that you wish to fulfill.

KEY TO NONPROFIT NEEDS Monetary Needs – Nonprofits may seek financial donations to support capital, operations, endowments, staff support, and other programmatic expenses. -

People – Many organizations rely on volunteers to lend their time and expertise for one-time projects, ongoing tasks or office support, and to serve on boards or committees. -

-

-

-

Supplies – You may also wish to provide in-kind donations of material goods such as office supplies, building materials, medical equipment, unused or gentlyused clothing, books, school supplies, canned goods and much more. -

If you wish to learn more about how to research or give to local nonprofits, please visit www.giverichmond.org or call (804) 330-7400 and ask for Michael Jones, GiveRichmond Coordinator. -
