The Speaker Series was established in 2016 by former LSEDC Board Chair, Christine Bushyhead as a way to challenge our perspective, inspire innovation and engage in leadership throughout the city. Former speakers include Doug Linkhart, President of the National Civic League, Carol Marinovich, former Mayor; CEO and community leader, Dayton Moore, general manager of the 2015 World Champion KC Royals and Toby Rush, founder of the successful Kansas City startup EyeVerify.
Graves spent more than 35 years with Burns & McDonnell successfully tripling employee count, boosting sales to $2.6 billion in 2015 and ranking #1 as Best Places to Work with the Kansas City Business Journal. He dedicated much of his time to increasing donations through the Burns & McDonnell Foundation from $4.5 million to $30 million. In that time, Graves also volunteered on many boards including the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce where he was instrumental in launching the “BIG 5” initiatives aimed to elevate the KC region as one of America’s best places to work, live and start or grow a business.

O’Guin is a successful entrepreneur who made his fortune in the furniture business to turn around and partner with a little well known local rapper, Tech N9ne. The duo formed Strange Music in 1999 and have quickly built the business into a multi-million dollar venture comprised in music, film, video production, satellite radio and merchandising all located in LEE’S SUMMIT.
