MEET OUR CENTRAL EUROPEAN AUTHORS We have shared with our American readers the works of many talented Central European writers, both well-known and emerging. Anna Terék (HU), Kinga Tóth (HU), Róbert Hász (HU), András Cserna-Szabó (HU), Andrea Tompa (HU) János Háy (HU) János Háy came of age under communism and to literary prominence under capitalism. He is the author of over two dozen volumes of poetry, fiction, and essays, as well as of frequently staged plays. Much of his work is informed by his peasant origins, his early embrace of alternative culture, and his insight into the maladies of modern society. Critics have noted his inventive use of language and striking narrative techniques. Tomáš Zmeškal (CZ), Lenka Kuhar Daňhelová (CZ), Pavla Horáková (CZ),Jan Němec (CZ) Tomáš Zmeškal (CZ) Tomáš Zmeškal (born 1966) is a Czech writer. In 1987, he left the then-Czechoslovakia to live in London, where he studied English language and literature at King‘s College. He taught at Charles University for a while, and currently teaches in high school. Zmeškal was lauded for his debut novel Love Letter in Cuneiform Script.
MEET OUR CENTRAL EUROPEAN AUTHORS Agnieszka Wolny-Hamkało (PL), Hubert Klimko-Dobrzaniecki (PL), Weronika Gogola (PL), Maciej Jakubowiak (PL) Hubert Klimko-Dobrzaniecki (PL) Polish writer and poet, author of several collections of short stories and short novels as well as two volumes of poetry. After studying theology and philosophy and travelling around Europe, he spent ten years in Reykjavík studying the language and Icelandic literature. Marek Vadas (SK), Silvester Lavrík (SK), Michal Habaj (SK), Vladimír Balla (SK) Mila Haugová (SK) Mila Haugová is a Slovak poet, essayist, and translator and also author of more than twenty volumes of poetry. Born in Hungary in 1942, she moved to Czechoslovakia with her family after the war. In 1968, she emigrated to Canada, returning after one year. From 1986 to 1996, Haugová worked in the editorial section of the literary journal Romboid. She is also highly regarded as a translator and has translated the poetry of, for instance, Sylvia Plath, Anne Saxton, Ingeborg Bachmann, Georg Trakl, and Paul Celan. Olesya Khromeychuk (UKR) Olesya Khromeychuk is an author and historian. She is the director of the Ukrainian Institute in London. Her memoir A Loss: The Story of a Dead Soldier Told by His Sister was published in 2021 by Ibidem Press. She holds a PhD from University College London, and taught at University of Cambridge, University College London, the University of East Anglia, and King’s College London
