Set in the heart of the Catapu forestry concession in central Mozambique.

Situated 32km south of the Zambezi River on the main North/South highway (EN1), perfect for an overnight stop, and a great base to explore the birds, butterflies and flora of the area. There are short walks leading from the camp through the indigenous forest, and we encourage guests to explore. We boast over 120 different bird species and 280 different indigenous trees. Identification lists are available on request. The Catapu concession features as one of Sasol’s 200 top birding sites in Southern Africa. As well as birds and trees, small mammals such as suni, red duiker and nyala are often seen in and around the camp. M’phingwe is an easy drive from a number of places of interest including Mary Moffat’s (wife of David Livingstone) grave at Chupanga Mission (60kms), the Inhamatanga forest reserve and adjacent Coutadas (hunting concessions - starting 30 kms), the new bridge over the Zambezi River, (35kms) and the Sena Bridge, the longest single-span metal rail bridge in the southern hemisphere, (100 kms).

Quality home cooked meals prepared to order

M’phingwe’s restaurant offers a range of quality home-cooked food for both resident and non-resident guests. There an a la carte menu supplemented with daily specials Breakfasts, lunches and dinners are all available at the restaurant. The kitchen is open from 06h00 - 09h30 for breakfast, between 12h00 - 14h00 for lunch and from 18h00 - 22h00 for dinner. Sample menus and prices of both food and drinks are available on request. Drinks are available from the bar throughout the day. All prices of both food and accommodation include VAT.


Situated in a 25,000 hectare forestry concession there is an abundance of flora and fauna to be explored

M’phingwe (pronounced “Impingwe”) which in the Sena language, is the name for the precious African Blackwood found within the camp. The camp is set in the heart of a 25,000 hectare concession. Here we are lucky enough to have an abundance of natural flora and fauna which we encourage our guests to explore. Activities include, bush walks, birding, game viewing.
