33 Z ona Bringing Back a Culture

SITE

Little Mexico, Dallas, TX

Zona 33 is a local market that creates an inviting space for Dallas’ diverse cultures to learn and appreciate the gastronomy and art of various Latin American countries. This market also aims to support Hispanic small vendors, such as food truck owners, interested in moving to a permanent space. It provides affordable facilities and a supportive community, giving them the opportunity to expand their small business.

23

Entrance

“Every weekend, fortune tellers, farmers, fledgling small business owners and cooks set up their stalls and try to earn an extra buck at these markets…”it used to be something done informally to raise some cash. More than economic functions, it provides social functions.” - Nestor Rodriguez, University of Houston Concept collage

Touchdown Challenge: Design a start-up pharmaceutical company’s headquarters that represents the company’s values. Solution: The design was focused on providing spaces with a clean look and a good balance between places to meet and share work and those that offer a quiet moment to concentrate. The office has floor-to-ceiling windows and glazing to maintain and encourage natural light in all areas. In addition, the office features a corporate gym to promote a healthy work dynamism. The new workplace of Clementia’s headquarter aims to help them advance in their organizational goals by building a stronger sense of community among employees, and creating an energetic work space that will spark confidence and increase efficiency.

“Clementia is dedicated to bringing effective new treatments and finding solutions for people affected by rare and disabling diseases.

In Greek mythology, Gaia is the goddess of the Earth. She is considered a mother figure, since she is often referred to as the ancestral mother of all life. Both women and Mother Earth give birth to creation and provide a shelter where life and growth are supported. More importantly, they both prove to be resilient and strong in the face of adversities, coming out just as beautiful, or even more so, than before the storm hit. They are composed of multiple layers. Sometimes these layers are molded, transformed, or even entirely removed, but they are both resilient enough that these changes can never truly take away from their essence.

Center located in Scottsdale, Arizona. Its design is inspired by the waves in the sandstone rock formation located in the Coyote Buttes, near the Arizona-Utah border. These rock mountains, which are often referred to as The Waves, had to endure natural disasters such as water erosion and strong winds before becoming one of the most photographed landscapes in the United States due to their beauty. Just like The Waves, breast cancer survivors had to endure a lot of pain and suffering, but they came out stronger and unstoppable.

Wayfinding To create an effortless and intuitive wayfinding experience, the wave is incorporated throughout the facility. It is an easy pattern to follow and creates a path to avoid patients feeling disoriented or lost, creating a positive customer experience.

54

Furniture The following aspects were taken in consideration when selecting furniture:

Family accommodations Warm and welcoming

Safety Privacy

Biophilic A growing amount of scientific evidence suggests that nature elements or views can be effective as stress-reducing, positive distractions that promote wellness in healthcare environments. Therefore, natural elements and materials were used in the design of Gaia Diagnostic Center to mimic nature and aid in the wellbeing of patients.
