One brother discharged of Godly Petiote’s murder

KENO Kanvon Taylor, one of two brothers initially charged with the murder of Godly Petiote in March this year, has been discharged by Chief Justice Mabel Agyemang.

Eighteen-year-old Taylor and his older brother Jumillo Isma, 21, were arrested and charged in March with the shooting death of 21-year-old Petiote on March 11.

The brothers appeared in the Supreme Court on Friday, June 5, via video link for their sufficiency hearing on the murder and other firearm related offences.

During the hearing, Ashwood Forbes, attorney for Taylor, made forceful arguments for his client’s release on the murder count, which were accepted.

Taylor was also charged with possession of an imitation firearm and escaping lawful custody.

Shortly after his arrest on the murder charge, Taylor had escaped from the Grace Bay Police station on March 14. Days later he was rearrested and charged.

Three police constables were later placed on administrative leave pending investigations into the circumstances of Taylor’s escape.

Meanwhile, older brother Isma is still facing charges of murder, carrying a firearm, carrying ammunition, discharging a firearm, and discharging ammunition.

Attorney Lara Maroof-Misick is representing Isma.

The case has been adjourned to a date in July.

At about 10.33am on March 11, police officers were dispatched to a location on International Drive off Cherokee Road in Providenciales with reports that someone had been shot.
