Sports National HJ Robinson crowned TCISS Inter-High Softball champions
Wesley Methodist finished with 75% of the season’s awards, but when it came down to the championship clash, HJ Robinson High School softball players took control en route to the TCISS InterHigh Softball title.
The final weekend of the 20222023 competition was a spectacle last Friday and Saturday at the Parade Ground in Grand Turk with hundreds of residents not only supporting their favourite teams, but demonstrating a vivacious display of community and school spirit.
In the semi-finals, HJ Robinson were able to stop the 2022 champions, the British West Indies Collegiate (BWIC) 19-11.
On the other hand, Wesley Methodist won semi-final two in emphatic style with Traeshel
Williams dominating in the pitching department to keep the Clement Howell High School (CHHS) at bay 13-3.
With several dominant players in the side, Wesley Methodist were favourites going into the championship clash, but HJ were able to dig deep to win 14-6.
HJ led 2-0 before Wesley Methodist tied the game up at 2-2; that would be the closest they would come to the title, as the innings progressed the lead jumped to 7-2, then to 14-3, before a last rush by the eventual second place performers.
HJ Robinson’s Keimari Simons finished as the MVP of the final, while Williams, got the top pitcher’s trophy in the final.
For the season, the talented pitcher was also voted as the Best Pitcher of the tournament, while teammates Shakeathia Taylor finished as the overall Best Hitter and Laribel Belen as the League’s MVP.
The lone HJ Robinson player receiving a season award was Simons, who copped the Best Defensive Player award. Meanwhile, the BWIC finished third overall, after they defeated CHHS 18-5 in the third-place clash.
