Couple arrested after breaking curfew

A MAN and woman were taken into custody on Sunday (July 12) for breaching the 8pm to 5am curfew in place in Providenciales.

The couple who were driving along Airport Road were pulled over at 9.43pm, according to the police press office.

The driver, who became aggressive with the attending officers, was arrested and taken to Chalk Sound Police Station along with the female passenger.

It is a criminal offence under the Emergency Powers Covid-19 Regulations 2020 to break curfew and could lead to a fine or prison sentence.

The aim is to control the movement and assembly of residents to halt the spread of Covid-19.

When addressing the curfew in March, Commissioner of Police Trevor Botting said: “I would like to strongly encourage all residents to obey the orders given.

“It is our job to enforce this regulation and we will do just that.

“We have adjusted our resources to meet the changes and with the assistance from our immigration colleagues, we are confident that we will maintain control.

“Again, I want residents to cooperate with us as we try to break the chain of the spread of Covid-19.”
