Domestic Arrivals Terminal at JAGS McCartney Int’l Airport reopens

The Domestic Arrivals Terminal at the Grand Turk airport is now open to the travelling public, while the international terminal is slated to be opened in two weeks.

The terminal reopened on Wednesday, June 21, much to the relief of travellers.

A statement on the reopening from the TCI Airports Authority indicated that the body has embarked on a phased approach to the roof repair of the Grand Turk airport roof with phase one completed.

The statement reads: “We anticipate phase two of the roof and terminal repairs to continue through the 2023 to 2024 fiscal year. A phased approach to the roof restoration project was necessary to avoid a total disruption to services and to allow for the continued use of the current terminal facility.”

Project Manager, Kathy Walkin, are overseeing the planning, implementation, management, and satisfactory delivery of all capital projects at the JAGS McCartney International Airport.

They expressed satisfaction at this milestone, as work continues towards the successful completion of many other projects on the horizon for JAGS McCartney Airport.

These projects include the rehabilitation of the airport’s perimeter fence, which is being carried out by Olympic Construction Ltd. This project has commenced, and pre-construction works are underway.

Another project is the procurement of the high-grade prefabricated Forte fence of reinforced steel, capable of withstanding a Category 5 hurricane; this is expected to be on the island within the following months and erected by December 2023.

Other projects are the construction of the Grand Turk firehall and the restoration of the air traffic control tower, both of which are currently foregoing the procurement process and will be retendered shortly.

These projects will be followed by the restoration of the parking lot, the erection of a JAGS McCartney monument, and a redirecting of the traffic flow into and out of the Grand Turk Airport, among others, the TCIAA has advised.

“The TCIAA is committed to the timely, effective, and efficient delivery of all its projects to enhance the travel experience for all, we sincerely thank the traveling public for their patience and cooperation,” the statement concluded.
