Cancel your weekend plan – East Bay awaits

Beyond the hustle and bustle of Providenciales, there lies the ultimate serene and secluded South Caicos. And_ on the very edge of South Caicos, there is an even more tranquil oasis, East Bay Resort.

The island of South Caicos isn't the hottest diving spot yet_ but this may well change in the near future. Something magical is happening on South Caicos and I encourage all to pay a bit closer attention to it. Beyond the spectacular salt salinas, dizzy donkeys, rundown ruins, delightful buildings, ditched fishing boats and friendly smiles—the quiet island sits at the southern edge of the Caicos Banks, facing a deep-water channel where humpback whales pass each winter. South Caicos' only settlement is the fishing village of Cockburn Harbour and until recently, this sleepy port town didn't offer much in the way of vacation accommodations.

Things changed with the new ownership of East Bay Resort when JEM Hospitality acquired the hotel in August 2021. This is

Rachel Wolchin once said: “If we were meant to stay in one place, we’d have had roots instead of feet.” On this quest to self-discovery, TC Islander Davidson Louis vowed to travel, write, paint, laugh and forgive. Subsequently, he hopes to find himself and or, leave behind a few pieces of himself. Contact him at hello. octopen@tcinews.tc a 38-rooms oceanfront property set on a deserted mile-long beach overlooking the shores of the Admiral Cockburn National Park. This first-class resort provides an ideal combination of modern amenities and out-island escape. The final element of the equation that has transformed South Caicos is a new interest in its reef.

Avid divers who are interested in the Caribbean now have unexplored waters with much to see. South Caicos, has now taken a prominent place between the rest of the Caribbean islands that are known for their out-of-thisworld underwater experiences. A new world awaits.

The Turks & Caicos Islands offer stellar water clarity, steep underwater walls and expansive shallow banks where grass beds and mangrove forests become a nursery for an abundance of marine life. Having zerobackground in diving and anything ocean-related, my intention and interest were not the ocean but of the pool. And that too is acceptable at East Bay. Fully equipped, East Bay is geared with a spa, restaurant, bar, tennis court, motorized and non-motorized water activities are at your fingertips. If you are not a diver like me, you too have a place by the pool with a rumpunch or two. You can let go of your worries, for you are totally in good hands.

I packed my bag for a weekend of relaxation and that is exactly what I got. A ten out of ten! Here are eight things to consider when you book your next trip to East Bay.

You Need More Than One Night

If you plan a get-away in South Caicos, plan at least two nights. Go downtown and drink with the locals on your first night and spend the second night watching the moon or walk the isolated beach.

Take A Good Friend With You

Don’t do it alone. Take a friend or a lover. Good things are meant to be shared.

Dive

By all means book a dive session. Do not sit by the pool all day long like I have done.

Take An Island Tour

I couldn’t help thinking how wonderful the island is, even to an islander like myself. The island ought to be explored. If not, take a bike and explore the island yourself.

Beach Walk

Nothing feels better than a lovely beachwalk_ at night.

Eat Local Fish

The culinary experience at East Bay is on par with any other resort you’ve been to. And while you may not know the origin of your fish in the other places you’ve stayed at before, here at East Bay, you can be certain that your fish comes from the local water, the morning of.

Top Notch Services

There is one person at East Bay who will ensure that your stay is far from average. Chef AG (Agnelo Goes) goes above and beyond to guarantee that you have a bespoke experience. He is the kind of chef who knows you by name. I was sold.
