Bahamian man accused of robbery in Long Bay, faces charges

A Bahamian man who allegedly robbed a business place in Long Bay, Providenciales has been charged by detectives of the Serious Crime Unit of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force.

A statement from the RTCIPF said the accused, Spencer Missick, 68, of Nassau, Bahamas, was charged on June 15, with robbery; Contrary to Section 3 of the Offences against the Person Ordinance Chapter 3.08.

The charge stemmed from a June 07th, incident that occurred in the Long Bay district.

The accused is expected to appear in court soon.

Haitian man charged with illegal entry

Daniel Jean, a 33-year-old Haitian national has been charged with illegal entry.

He was charged on June 11th by the Serious Crime Unit, according to the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands.

The charge against Mr Jean state that on May 19th, the said offence was committed, in Contravention of Section 34(1) of the Immigration Ordinance Chapter 3.08.

He is expected to appear in Court next week.

Illegal firearm recovered; four detained

Four men were arrested on Thursday, June 15, 2023, and an illegal firearm and ammunition were seized by ranks of the Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force Response and Operations Team.

According to police reports, while on patrol, the officers noticed a white vehicle, with four occupants parked in the vicinity of a financial institution located in Downtown Providenciales around 3:30 am.

The officers conducted a stop search and discovered a firearm containing a magazine with ammunition.

The suspects ages 31 and 37 are from Haiti, while the remaining two - ages 52 and 27 are from the Bahamas and are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, a police spokesperson said in a statement following the arrest.

Commenting on the illegal firearm and ammunition bust, Commissioner of Police Trevor Botting said: “There has been a renewed effort on the part of RTCIPF, to rid the streets of illegal into known hotbed areas on the island as they work to tamp down crime.

A team of officers and executive members of the force descended on Five Cays in the wee hours of Wednesday morning (July 21) to execute three search warrants.

Leading the operation was Head of Crime, Safeguarding, and Public Protection Superintendent Dean Holden, who said the exercise was a joint operation among various departments within the Police Force.

He said: “Several of the recent crimes committed are by illegal firearms and the RTCIPF, namely its Serious Crime Unit and the Anti-Gang and Drug Unit have been working relentlessly to limit the scourge of organised criminal activities.”

The operation held three objectives: disrupting organised crime rings within the Five Cays district; create opportunities for intelligence gathering and evidence; and create opportunities to engage local communities, by reassuring them the police are taking positive action against the increase in illegal firearm use.

According to Holden: “During the operations, members of the community were supportive and understanding of our actions.

“Therefore, we continue to seek your support in making the TCI a safe space to work, reside and visit. I am encouraging anyone with information on illegal activities to contact 911, the nearest police station, or call CrimeStoppers TCI at 1-800-8477.” firearms, given that for the year, of the seven homicides, six were committed, with illegal firearms.”

The search efforts within the community ended at 8 am.

Botting said the prevalence of illegal firearms in the country is fuelling violent crime.

“‘The RTCIPF has recovered four firearms for the year.

“I wish to point out and warn criminals that the RTCIPF will not cower from our responsibilities, and we will not be shying away from enforcing our duties.

“To my officers who daily place their lives on the line to protect and defend the law abiders of the TCI, I salute you, thank you for your dedication, commitment, and service.”

Chabo Capron and woman on gun and drug charges

Known offender Chabo Capron and 25-year-old Belika Been have been slapped with numerous firearm and drug charges stemming from a January incident.

The two accused – who reside at Sandy Land, Five Cays, Providenciales - are jointly charged with one count of possession of a firearm; one count of possession of ammunition; two counts of possession of controlled drugs; and two counts of possession with intent to supply. Both accused are in custody pending their court appearance.
