LIFE AS A MASTERPIECE When we embarked on the adventure of a new magazine, dedicated to "style" and the search for beauty in all its manifestations and every aspect of daily life, we were determined to trace a new way of dealing with the topic. Style as an expression of its defined personality, almost like a "business card" of those who intend to introduce themselves to the world, as well as with their person, also through the aesthetic choices that dot their existence. "Beauty", as we know, is a very individual, subjective and intimate concept, even if mediated by life experiences and human and cultural roots: for us, "beautiful" is what satisfies the spirit, mediated by the senses that they bring you into contact with the surrounding world. "Beautiful" therefore as a synonym of harmony, with oneself and with the environment, the result of choices and progressive refinements guided by the linearity of simple things. Because if we can grasp the charm of the redundant elegance of an art deco object, we cannot fail to consider the evolution of the times and the taste that lead us to return to the roots of culture itself: the Golden Ratio, already applied in the ancient Babylon and Egypt, already established thousands of years ago the canon of aesthetic perfection through simplicity and balance. The search for beauty and style makes life itself a true work of art. And this search finds a powerful stimulus in the sea. A boundless expanse, without defined tracks and therefore the maximum expression of freedom, for millennia, a great and inexhaustible temptation for man.

What does the sea represent for man? Simple: the sea is its past, the sea is its present, the sea is its life, that is, its future. The sea has always attracted men. The peripheries of the continents are generally more populous than the heart of the continental masses: over a third of humanity lives in the coastal areas. This number "knows" about the sea: faced and lived in an elegant and sporty way, in which personalization presents itself as an expression of individuality and the most intimate characteristics of man, capable of defining his style in every circumstance of life, adapting and achieving the purpose of your statement. A classic approach, which however does not break down in the face of novelty, which distorts the balance but is destined to become classic in turn. In the issue of TDA that closes 2019, the harbinger of innovations that we will be pleased to present to you soon, we guide you to discover boats that, with elegance and style, represent the most stimulating, classic and innovative travelling icons at the same time. Come on board with us and let yourself be fascinated by beauty. Enjoy the reading!

Cannes Yachting Festival 2019 After 6 exhibition days and despite an opening day somewhat disrupted by rain, the 42nd edition of the Yachting Festival closed its doors on Sunday 15 September having set new records for participation, thereby consolidating its position as Europe’s leading in-water boat show. This edition received 54,000 individual visitors. With the opening of the Sailing Area, the Vieux Port is now entirely dedicated to the ultimate in motorboats. This new organisation resulted in improved navigation: some 480 boats were on show on land and in-water this year, ranging in length between 2 and 48 metres. With the opening of the Sailing Area at Port Canto, the 42nd edition of the Yachting Festival wanted to honour sailing in all its richness and diversity by inviting famous sailors and navigators, creating special events open to all and developing a glamour meeting between elegance and excellence. D

uring the Cannes Yachting Festival 2019 we boarded the BGX70, presented in world premiere. The BGX70 is a new type of yacht born from the creativity of Luca Santella and the Zuccon International Project studio. It is characterized by an unconventional line and the play of shapes between the superstructure and the hull. The cockpit of this yacht, furnished with freestanding furniture, gives the possibility of direct access to the saloon through the large glass door or to the main deck thanks to the robust staircase. The lounge is characterized by huge side windows and a large aft window. This area is furnished with a spacious L-

shaped sofa; on the other side, two armchairs give the feeling of being in the living room at home. A direct passage allows access to the owner's cabin, full beam, with large windows and light walls in contrast with the dark furnishings, including a particular desk/vanity. The bed is on the side, all its structure and the headboard bulkhead are in leather where there is also a large mirror. The owner's cabin bathroom is minimal and played on dark tones. Continuing towards the bow there is a lounge which can become a cabin thanks to the closing of the bulkheads. Finally, you enter the guest cabin to which great attention has been paid to detail.

12 Going up one of the two stairs that are located in the cockpit and the living room, you get to the main deck. It creates an innovative space, an open space area with wheel area, kitchen and lunch area surrounded by large windows that give the opportunity to fully experience the boat and the sea even in less than optimal weather conditions or in colder seasons. This open space is characterized by the use of wood, carbon and white walls; there are also two steps to directly access the bow. At the bow, there is a large modular sundeck which in turn becomes a sofa and two adjustable tables for lounge moments. From the stern lunch area of the main deck, you can access an unconventional sundeck located on the hardtop. Clara Mosso

antiere delle Marche, subsequently to the launch and delivering of four award-winning yachts in the same series, exposed to the 2019 Yachting Festival de Cannes Mimì la Sardine, the fifth Nauta Air. The yacht is a 110 footer, signed by Mario Pedol and Massimo Gino of Nauta Yachts for both her exterior and interior design. It is a pure explorer vessel, combining Nauta Yachts' design elegance to Cantiere delle Marche's technical expertise: real teamwork, a project which focus has always been the Yacht and never the egos of the players involved. It’s all about comfort and informality onboard Mimì la Sardine. From the interiors to the

outdoor living spaces, the result is a comfortable environment with natural light and open air. Spread across three decks plus a large Sun deck, with beautifully designed interiors, Mimì la Sardine is able to accommodate up to 12 guests. The main saloon is devoted to lounging while the upper saloon hosts a formal dining area with a remarkable table taking centre-stage. A huge galley is located on the main deck to the port side. Four spacious guest cabins that can accommodate up to 10 guests are on the lower deck amidship, while a superb owners’ apartment is located on the main deck forward. A crew of 6 will make sure every guests' need is met whilst on board.

18 The tender is stored on the upper deck aft. Once the tender is launched, the area turns into a large lounging area en plein air, partially shaded by the sun deck's overhang. The interior style is cohesive to the exterior lines and has been conceived to provide the Owners, their family and invitees with a warm and relaxing ambience in both social and private areas. Space and relaxation are indeed keywords throughout this family friendly yacht. Oakwood, both natural and weathered, is generously used on all decks creating warm and welcoming environments. Huge windows and openings onto stern terraces create visual and functional continuity between exterior and interior spaces. Tasteful details and refined furniture ooze luxury throughout, from the Flexform sofas in the main saloon and timber dining table in the upper deck saloon by Riva1920, to the

Bianco Galizia granite of all bathrooms. Loose furniture, sofas, coffee tables and lamps are by renowned Italian manufacturer such as Baxter, Flexform, B&B, Flos, Gervasoni while most upholsteries have been chosen among Loro Piana's finest fabrics. MimĂŹ la Sardine, at 33.40 metres, with a beam of 7.50 metres and a displacement of 280 tons, despite her clean and serene look, is a robust go-anywhere explorer vessel without compromises as she has been designed and built to travel great distances to any part of the world in full safety and comfort. Thanks to 48,000 litres tanks and twin Cat18 Acert 533kW engines, she has an impressing range of 5.500 nautical miles at the economic speed of 9 knots. MimĂŹ la Sardine is indeed a quintessential explorer vessel with a sea-kindly and seaworthy hull purposely designed by Sergio Cutolo and his team Hydro Tec for moving effortlessly and safely in all sea conditions, re-

19 dundant technical equipment, well laid-out technical spaces to simplify upkeep and extremely large and comfortable interior and exterior areas to provide guests with all comforts and amenities during long passages. The Nauta Air 110 matches top-level quality as for construction standards and technical equipment. As all yachts built by CdM, her robust steel/aluminium body encompasses cupro-nickel piping, remote controlled valves, electrically driven stabilizers, all pumps onboard are doubled and there is also a bilge oil separator. Machinery and equipment are installed in large and properly laid out technical spaces to make access and maintenance as easy as possible. Their incredible eye on design and the approach to navigation and to life quality onboard make the Nauta Air 110 a perfect ambassador of CdM's soul. Fabio Fabbricatore

Custom Line 106 - our visit on board

A

t the Cannes Yachting Festival, we boarded the MY Al Mohammady, the Custom line 106 born from the unmistakable design of Francesco Paszkowski and the technology of the Ferretti Group. The external lines are taut and clear, creating contrasting games with the windows. The wheel-house is located on the intermediate deck, in front of the lounge area furnished with sofas and tables, more forward down a few steps there is a comfortable sundeck. The flybridge is very large, protected by side windows and a hardtop also glazed which makes navigation more pleasant even when there is wind. The large living area of the fly consists of a

wet bar and large sofas positioned opposite. The wheel-house, characterized by a dashboard with dynamic lines, is connected directly to the bow through a lateral passage. The cockpit is furnished with a large sofa and a teak dining table. In the interior, the style is unique thanks to the design of Francesco Paszkowski and Margherita Casprini. The main deck is characterized by large windows and large spaces, such as the living area furnished with a sofa and armchairs in light fabric and dark wood that reflect the game of contrasts of the walls and the floor. In the lunch area, there is a large glass table with a wooden structure. The master cabin is located in the bow, entering there is the study in dark wood and

The lines of the cabin furnishings are characterized by wide beams which therefore create a contrast with the hull's stern lines. The walk-in closets of the master cabin are large, the bathroom is finished in marble. Through a sturdy wooden and steel staircase that almost looks like a sculpture, you go down to the guest and VIP cabins. The two VIP cabins are located in the centre of the boat and are characterized by the beds positioned transversely. The two guests are very spacious. This is our visit onboard the magnificent MY Al Mohammady - Custom Line 106. Zoe Miles

Unconventional harmony

he Pershing 8X looks like a yacht with a sporty and aggressive shape, made of carbon fiber and fiberglass. The design is by Fulvio De Simoni, whose nonconformist spirit and not inclined to compromise is reflected in the projects. The mood of the project harmonizes the components in a general balance of simple and harmonious lines. The external forms of the Pershing 8X are characterized by the "wings" that connect the hull to the flybridge structure. The deckhouse, almost completely glazed, has a shape that recalls the line of sports supercars. At the stern, there is a large sundeck, a sofa and a living area with a table that can be lowered to create a second sundeck. On the side, the staircase leading to the flybridge: almost a real sculpture in

carbon fiber, steel and wood. Upon entering you feel a pleasant sensation, you seem to be in contact with the sea thanks to the huge windows and you can enjoy this view from the spacious white sofa that decorates the area. To create a unique environment with the cockpit it is also possible to lower the aft window. This open space is characterized by the prominence that is given to the wheelhouse, consisting of cutting-edge equipment and three seats designed by Poltrona Frau. To divide this area from the living area only the glass and steel dining table, with white leather chairs by Poltrona Frau, illuminated by the opening window of the hardtop. The master cabin has a traditional layout but is made special by the main choice of very light colours in contrast with black details.

32 On the side, a chaise longue is well integrated and almost looks like a sculpture. The bathroom is minimal, with simple and clear surfaces. The VIP cabin is in the bow: it also plays on the light-dark contrast but in a more balanced way. The two guest cabins are spacious and well-lit thanks to the mirrored walls. The flybridge consists of two areas, one of which is the command with three sports seats always signed by Poltrona Frau and the other area is designed by a large asymmetrical sundeck. At the bow, there is another sunbathing area and a large sofa built into the hull for comfortable navigation. An interesting combination of nonconformity and balance, for a yacht that allows you to live a boating experience in direct contact with the "spirit" of the sea. Clara Mosso

The new shape of elegance

35

T

he Riva 90 Argo line - designed by Officina Italiana Design - is sporty and dynamic despite its 28.59 m. The windows are a fundamental part of the design of this yacht. The flybridge is spacious, with the dining area equipped with a real kitchen-bar set up alongside. The control area of the flybridge is treated in detail and the dashboard is retractable. Further aft there is a sunbathing area with free standing furniture. From a side passage of the fly, you can directly access the bow where we have a large sofa built into the shapes of the same yacht. The cockpit has an unusual layout, to allow all guests to enjoy the same sea view, with two white sofas positioned on the longitudinal axis and a Corian and steel table, adjustable as a dining table or coffee table, or

transforming the area into a sundeck. The interior is furnished in a classic Riva style: the main materials are wood, lacquered and steel. The main living room is furnished with an Lshaped sofa in light fabric, in contrast with the two armchairs in black leather and steel; in the centre n low table. At the back of the lounge is the dining area, with a large crystal table and chairs that reflect the design of the lounge chairs. These areas are very bright thanks to the large windows and steel surfaces which, reflecting the light, act as mirrors. The master cabin is extremely elegant; light colours like the white leather of the bulkhead of the bed, the details and the sofa that is next to the large window dominate. Natural light also filters through an unconventional window above our heads along the

38 staircase that leads to the bathroom. This is characterized by a truly unusual layout: you can access it by following a staircase in the middle of the boat that descends towards the bow and opens onto the full-beam bathroom. Calacatta Australe marble is predominant. On the lower deck, there are three very spacious VIP cabins with attention to the smallest details. At the stern, there is a real second master cabin, also characterized by the finishes in white leather and steel, with a sofa near the large window. In the two guest cabins, on the other hand, walnut wood and mirrored surfaces predominate. Unconventional elegance and harmony choices for an unusual and refined yacht. Clara Mosso

A sparkling jewel - Cannes Yachting Festival 2019

dmiring this boat from afar you can see the bridge almost sparkling: this pleasant effect is given by a particular finishing with twenty layers of paint. Designed by Officina Italiana Design, this Riva is the maximum expression of elegance. The carbon air intakes and the windows draw the shapes of the hull, which is "transformed" at the stern by opening the beach, which in turn is fitted with two "pieds dans l'eau" sundecks. Going up two steps we find two other white sundecks and spacious sofas with a large opening table in precious

wood. The mooring areas are well integrated into the hull, almost hidden by chromed details that highlight the Riva style. The spaces are exploited to the maximum, obtaining numerous lockers to be able to stow the cushions. The command area is very accurate and detailed in style and high technology. Inside there is a pleasant living area with an Lshaped sofa in white leather on a shiny wooden base, white ceiling and floor and steel details reflect the light that enters the side windows. The interior bulkheads are in leather, with details in polished steel such as

44 the door handles. The kitchen area is fully equipped and retractable. The bathroom is accessible independently from the cabins, played on reflective and chiaroscuro surfaces. The cabin is forward and surprisingly bright: this is possible thanks to large side windows, the porthole on the ceiling and many mirrored and chromed surfaces. The lower part of the sides is in leather and the structure of the bed in wood. The bow in its essentiality is dynamically elegant: polished wood, steel, dark glass of the windows. The lines of the Dolceriva are drawn harmoniously enough to make the shapes of the windscreen and those of the side windows "communicate" with each other. Fabio Fabbricatore

The home-like comfort at sea

Ph. Ferretti Group

47

A

t the Cannes Yachting Festival 2019 we boarded the new Ferretti Yachts 720 and suddenly were fascinated by its incredible spaces, plentiful stowage areas, and out-of-the-ordinary ceiling heights. A navigation experience inaugurating a new way of living on the sea, the 720 offers all the comforts and glamour of a timeless elegance yacht, to inhabit -like a home of one's own- the sea with a particular style and a sense of wellbeing never experienced before. The 720 -a tandem creation by Ferretti Group's Product Strategy Committee and Engineering Department- is the second project with exterior design by architect Filippo Salvetti in collaboration with Ferretti Group, while the interior design was handled by the Group's in-house architects and designers. Characterized by its aerodynamic design re-

Ph. Ferretti Group

volving around taut, finely poised forms that help to make the deckhouse lines extremely clean, the 720 offers several functional and styling solutions that are highly innovative for a vessel of its size, underscoring the constant evolution of the brand, which at the same time preserves its distinctive character that is recognizable on all the shipyard's models. In keeping with the innovation process implemented on the recent models of Ferretti Group, the external forward area stands out for its ample, interchangeable living spaces allowing to have a comfortable area that can be shifted in a large sun pad or a comfortable dining space with central table. On the sides of sun pads -equipped with lockers and practical storage areas-, the cup-holders and storage compartments are framed by four retractable courtesy lights, and carbon poles

50 support a bimini top that can cover the entire area. Aft you can appreciate an impressive strong point of this new model: at the centre of the swim platform, a large door swing open to reveal a comfortable settee, and the shade of a canopy creates a convivial area at sea level that has no equal on the market. This area can be further expanded thanks to the electro-hydraulically controlled swim platform, that consent to house a tender up to 3.95 meters long or a three-seat jet ski. With a length of 73.4 feet (22.3 m) and a beam of 18.6 feet (5.7 m), the 720 has a particularly comfortable and spacious flybridge (31m²), made of carbon fiber and composite material, fitted with a second helm station in the forward-starboard area, framed by a massive sea-facing sun pad. Amidships we have a central dinette, served by the bar area with kitchenette, refrigerator, sink and storage spaces, located aft, where various free-standing furniture options

may also be selected. In its standard version, the yacht comes with a central roll-bar and retractable bimini top, while the optional hard top configuration is available in 3 different versions: fixed window, built-in bimini, or adjustable louvers. The interiors of Ferretti Yachts 720 perfectly embody those concepts of well-being and home-like comfort that have become a hallmark of the brand. In the cockpit, the cleanness of the lines is already revealed with the mooring hidden from view; an aft sofa faces a table for 8. The convivial zone can be further expanded by adding another sofa or a small bar unit on the right-hand side next to the glass door leading to the full-beam lounge. This door can be opened laterally and moved to be concealed entirely in the starboard bulwark. The lounge is a large and cozy open space with ceiling heights exceeding 6.56 ft, divi-

51 ded into 3 main areas: the living, with two large facing sofas with ample storage, the raised dining area, ample and lightweight, that leaves plenty of space for movement, conveying the idea of home-like comfort and forward, behind the dining area, we have the galley, conceived as an open, minimalist space, which features a cooking top facing a hidden sink. An electric door leading to the port-side walkway facilitates better flow management and enables service to be provided more smoothly. Starboard, on the opposite side to the galley, is the helm station, arranged on two levels with four displays with a maximum size of 16" and an electric window positioned next to the pilot seat. Moving on, next to the helm station are the stairways that lead down to the lower deck, which has a 4-cabin layout. The owner's suite, situated on a dedicated level, is a full-beam space of 20m², preceded by a space for relaxation with a large sofa.

Ph. Ferretti Group

These then lead to the bed and, behind it, towards the stern, a walk-in closet on the port side and a large bathroom to starboard with two basins and separate head and shower. This layout, already introduced on the brand's latest models, ensures greater soundproofing against the noise from the engine room, thus significantly enhancing comfort. The two double cabins have two separate beds and share a bathroom that can also serve as a day head. The VIP cabin is situated at the foredeck, with en-suite bathroom and separate shower. The lower deck also houses the crew quarters, with a service area that includes a laundry room and a double cabin with separate bathroom and shower, along with access to the engine room. The crew area is reached from the cockpit, below the stairway that gives access to the flybridge. The shipyard offers owners a choice between two interior design styles that have different

54 furnishing solutions and color choices. The first will have elements characterized in light, neutral lacquered shades. The second is otherwise characterized by dark colours. One of the distinctive elements is the large lounge sideboard, which in the light version is available in walnut with oblique stripes, while the dark version is in glossy ebony. Other materials widely used on the main deck and in the lower deck cabins include leather on the ceilings and the coverings of the beds and headboards, back-painted glass on the surfaces of the furniture and fine fabrics on the sofas. The wall surfaces on both the main deck and the lower deck feature the innovative nanotech material Fenix, with a slightly ribbed pattern. Fenix has an extremely opaque surface that is anti-fingerprint and pleasantly soft to the touch. The ribbed pattern creates plays of light and shadow along the visual path to the

passageway to the lounge, up to the descent into the cabins. The owner's suite, with its generous spaces that reveal a unique private environment, replicates the material and color play of the main deck, with a minimalist but detailed design that dialogues continuously with the walk-in closet and the large en suite bathroom, with smoked glass inserts. The style of this new model is based on a successful mixture of different patterns, like the ribbed pattern of the walls, the stripes of the ceiling, the chequering of the headboards, and the oblique stripe motif of the lounge sideboard, that dialogue in deep, natural harmony. The lighting system was specially developed for this model: a combination of horizontal LED lights built into the ceilings, combined with independent vertical spotlights equipped with adjustable spots that scenically characterize specific and particular points.

Ph. Ferretti Group

55 This system allows the owner to choose the intensity and the lighting effect on the main deck and in all the spaces of the lower deck. Aesthetics and emotion, innovative spatial organization, and sumptuous versatility in the stylistic choices, all under the banner of the seafaring elegance that has always been the brand's exclusive and refined heritage. The on-board experience stands out for the unparalleled levels of comfort, allowing owners to enjoy their yacht as if it were a true floating villa, basking in a new concept of living: total well-being at sea. oarding the new Monte Carlo Yachts 70 you can appreciate a completely open space environment, well lit by the large side windows and the front windshield, which best expresses the philosophy and mood of Monte Carlo, summarized by a simple and effective concept: there is no form without function and no function without form. For a yacht to be beautiful, it also needs to come from technological excellence. At the entrance, there is a light fabric sofa with coffee table and in front of a piece of furniture along the entire wall. Subsequently, a large kitchen and bar area with marble top, next to which is the wheel area, with a leather seat and a dashboard

designed with simple and clear shapes, also finished in leather. Going down the aft staircase we find the owner's cabin, obviously characterized by the portholes symbol of Monte Carlo Yachts, near which there are a spacious writing area and a large sofa/chaise longue with an unusual bookcase next to it. The whole cabin is furnished in light colours with warm tones. The bathroom is in marble with steel finishes, characterized by light tones. The VIP cabin is spacious and well-lit thanks to the side windows. The feeling of welcome is enhanced by the use of materials such as wood and leather in warm shades.

62 The bathroom has a marble finished shower and washbasin. The guest cabins have two twin beds: they too are characterized by warm tones. The bulkheads are finished in wood, while the headboards, which run along the entire length of the same, are in leather. Outside, in the bow, there is a large sundeck in light fabric with lowered backrests and adjustable table. The flybridge is large and next to the wheel area there is a semicircular sofa, which almost forms an S with the main sofa. Next to the sofa, there is an equipped bar area and further aft, there is still space for free standing furniture. Every inch of space is custom-designed and hand-made: MCY 70 is a special way of interpreting the world, boating, luxury and our relationship with the ocean. Zoe Miles
