May 12, 2014 Mr. Donald Sykes President/CEO Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board 2338 N. 27th St., Milwaukee, WI 53210

Dear Mr. Sykes,

Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington Counties Receive Federal Manufacturing Communities Designation

P

I am writing to inform you of the Tool, Die, and Machining Association of Wisconsin’s (TDMAW) commitment to partner with the three workforce development boards in the M7 region – Milwaukee Area (MAWIB), Southeast Wisconsin (SEWDB), and Waukesha-Ozaukee-Washington (WOWWDB) – on the application to the Department of Labor’s Ready to Work program. MAWIB, the lead applicant, is partnering with the SEWDB and WOW WDB on a regional proposal which will provide long-term unemployed workers with individualized counseling, training, work experience, and specialized services leading to rapid employment in high-demand occupations in manufacturing, healthcare, and information technology. The TDMAW, founded in 1937 with over 160 members, was organized for the purpose of providing a forum for the independent tool & die and machine shop owners of Wisconsin to discuss mutual problems and for the exchange of ideas in business management and the technical aspects of the industry. Our members need a strong talent pipeline, especially as the workforce ages and jobs become more technical. The M7 region has workers who are highly skilled and ready to provide talent to help employers close the skills gap, but they require career coaching and assistance in adapting their skills and experience to new industries. The TDMAW’s role will be to: UÊ*À Û `iÊ>Êv ÀÕ ÊÌ Ê >À iÌÊÌ iÊ,i>`ÞÊÌ Ê7 À Ê«À }À> ÊÌ Ê TDMAW members; UÊ Ûi iÊ/ 7Ê i LiÀÃÊÌ ÊÀiµÕiÃÌÊ ÃÌÊÃ ÌiÃÊv ÀÊi ployer based activities, supplementary education and training resources such as mentors, equipment, instructors, funding, etc.; and UÊ i «ÊÌ ÊÃ V ÌÊ/ 7Ê i LiÀÊvii`L>V Ê ÊÌ iÊÃ ÃÊ> `Ê competencies of workers completing training and placed into employment. The Ready to Work program will create an opportunity for the M7 region to help create a talent pipeline for in-demand H-1B industry sectors and occupations. We look forward to participating in the Ready to Work program to develop a workforce that aligns with employer needs. Sincerely,

Mike Mallwitz Chairman of the Board Tool, Die, and Machining Association of Wisconsin

TDMAW Happenings Logopress3 in Education Dear, Mr. Mahuta My name is Luke Skudlarczyk and I recently graduated from the Tool and Die program at WCTC. I want to thank you for the Kennedy toolbox I received. It was a huge accomplishment graduating from WCTC and then being rewarded with a toolbox at the end was more than I could ever ask for. Coming into the program at school I didn’t know anything about machining or the processes involved, but each semester I gained more knowledge and caught onto what the teachers were showing us. I never thought I would be the recipient of this toolbox, but it just proves to myself that what I did in school caught the attention of my teachers and reflected how successful my future can be in this trade. I also won the Outstanding Student Award for the Tool and Die program which made going to school and putting up with all the long hours and classes all worth it in the end. This toolbox signifies my accomplishments and my hard work I put into each class at school and being chosen out of sixteen other students means a lot to me and I can’t thank you enough for it.

Accurate Die Design, Inc. and Logopress Corp. have teamed up to help teachers in their Tool & Die and their Die Design programs by adding Logopress3 die design software to their current curriculums. Logopress3 allows teachers to teach concepts more quickly and effectively than with SolidWorks alone. Just one example is the Logopress3 Intelligent Animation and Dynamic Interference Detection command. This fast and easy command goes a long way in helping the students to visualize their projects running in a virtual press and showing the interference that can occur as the strip is feeding through the die. Some of the schools that will be teaching their die design classes with the assistance of Logopress3 die design software this fall include: UÊI/ Ê vÊ Ã UÊ À> `Ê,>« `ÃÊ Õ ÌÞÊ i}i UÊ iÃÊ iÃÊ Ài>Ê Õ ÌÞÊ i}i UÊ À> iÊ*>À Ê/iV V> Ê i}i UÊ ÀÌ Ê i À} >Ê/iV V> Ê i}i If you know of other schools in your area that teach die design that might be interested in using Logopress3 to aid in their curriculum, please have them email or call us for more information.

Sincerely, Luke Skudlarczyk
