PRECEDENT STUDY
Bagsværd Church Jørn Utzon
Jorn first had the idea for a wave-like ceiling while sketching clouds on the shore of a beach. He then began sketching large groups of people gathering under the clouds which he considered perfect for a church. He saw the clouds resembling the heavens and as they grew closer to the people, the people symbolically became closer to heaven. Architecturally, the celing’s form allows for a beautiful gradient of light due to the manner in which Utzon folded the concrete forms. It was constructed using the radius of a system of circles.
PROJECT DEVELOPMENT
The basic gesture of my project was towards the neighboring garden space. This gesture took the form of a roof which opened onto the garden. The administrative block was laced along the street and the social and council chambers were placed under the roof.
