Young children constantly see shapes in their natural environment. The activities in this book are designed to transfer this awareness of shape in the natural environment to the world of mathematics. The shapes treated are circles, squares, rectangles and triangles. Children are encouraged to match shapes, copy shapes, identify shapes in their natural environment and explore patterns that these shapes can produce. The activities will aid the child in the development of visual discrimination skills, which are important not only for other fields of mathematics but also in reading and writing.
