TEACH FOR VIETNAM IN 2ND SEMESTER OF 2018 - 2019
I.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
During the Classroom Learning Loop, we use the PADA Framework (Proficiency, Awareness, Dispositions and Agency) as a common lexicon or shared language to see a broad themes in student outcomes. Furthermore, we also conduct more activities that can engage more local teachers, parents and authority to make a broader impact or give chance for students to be nurtured and developed with leadership mindset.
English Fair
English fair concept was set up in order to create the really joyful and meaningful English playground that more students can practice their English skills because we believe that using other skills learned from teachers, friends, and from real life will
bring them the chance to improve the love for learning English and spread out this sharing spirit.
There was an English fair organize in Duong Minh Chau by their own students and teachers. We believed that this collaboration spirit did create a great playground to
equip our students with knowledge, skills, and mindsets to access the bright future of expanded opportunities so that they can lead a meaningful life for themselves, their families, and as part of a thriving community and the world around them.
Direct beneficiaries: more than 200 students from 19 partner schools did join the English Fair.
Open House
Open House is an event that helps students to experience the culture from 5 countries: Korea, China, Indonesia, Pakistan, Malaysia and practice English. Students, with the help of 4 Fellows, tried their best to put everything on the stage smoothly (from the dance, the fashion show, the music...) to show their friends and teachers what they have learned.
Direct beneficiaries: around 350 students from partner schools in Long Chu - Long Giang, Tay Ninh joined the event.
STEM Fair
STEM Fair is a playground for 100 students to explore, experience and practice STEM knowledge that they have learned so far. To empower student leaders, we encouraged and mentored 14 secondary students, who are participating in STEM extracurricular class of TFV, and a group of secondary students from Ho Chi Minh City to take the lead in organizing the STEM Fair. The fair would not be successful without the support from our sponsors – Lavifood – and the companion of the STEM Ambassador Project. The aim was to create opportunities for students to spread their own spirit and experience of STEM in real life then to inspire other students in Tay Ninh Province.
Direct beneficiaries: 124 students from STEM classes (grade 7-8, and 50 students in Mac Dinh Chi school, 20 students grade 6-9 from Ho Chi Minh) district leaders, specialists of Education and Training departments and local teachers from 14 secondary schools across 4 districts: Hoà Thành, Tân Châu, Bến Cầu and Tân Biên
The Reading Club
The Reading Club is a mini-project under the Library Project which includes two phases (i) call for book donation and improving the reading space for libraries of local school partners; (ii) organize reading-related activities to encourage students’ love for reading, such as: Read and share, Read and do. To ensure more sustainable outcomes, TFV fellows proactively develop a co-creation spirit with school administrators and local teachers by engaging them deeply throughout these two phases and strengthening their ownership with the Project. A typical event at the second phase took place at Suoi Da secondary school in April 2019. It was aimed at turning the library space into a friendly area that strengthens teacher-student collaboration. It presented to the participants a real-life problem in the locality and involved design thinking process. A total of 20 students, 4 local teachers, and 4 TFV fellows were teamed up to design the best solution they could have based on a STEM book. By the end of the event, while the students had the chance of learning knowledge in a different way, they also felt more connected to their teachers. At the same time, the local teachers were motivated to utilize the school library as their additional and non-traditional area of learning and teaching.
Direct beneficiaries: 20 students from Suoi Da secondary school, school administrators and local teachers.
LOCAL TEACHER EMPOWERMENT: Last but not least, we aim to bring more engagement of local people through empowering them to conduct more activities within their schools.
The Teacher Club
The Teacher Club is an initiative developed by Fellows throughout three districts of Tay Ninh (Duong Minh Chau, Hoa Thanh, Tan Chau) in response to the needs of local teachers. Besides formal training courses provided by the Ministry of Education and Training, they are strongly interested in a non-traditional platform to stay connected to each other and take care of their emotional life. Moreover, this is an English club for all teachers in Duong Minh Chau District with the purpose of fostering a friendly environment to communicate, share and develop their language as well as teaching skills. With a high proportion of young English teachers, this Club really suits the needs of professional development for local teachers.
The Teacher Club in Hoa Thanh is served as a cozy platform for local teachers. The Club was more of a space for building a stronger connection and sharing values in education because the majority of them have over 10 years of experience as a teacher.
Direct beneficiaries: more than 130 people including 90 teachers and school leaders. See more on our blog: https://blog.teachforvietnam.org
II. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT We actively engage local communities to act towards positive changes with projects that support a sustainable development.
Little Farmers

Knowledge about farming, value
chain, and entrepreneurship that the students have learned will be spread over their school, family, and community. The project is implemented by our STEM fellows through undertaking extracurricular activities and operating STEM clubs in Tay Ninh.
