Golf is a great way to get some exercise, relax and unwind. During the coronavirus epidemic, it’s been difficult to get out on the golf course. Though they’re open in many states now, most courses also have social distancing restrictions in place. The number of people out on the course is limited. Spaces like clubhouses and restaurants are also subject to some new rules and regulations. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to practice at home. By performing simple drills in the house or back yard, it’s possible to have an improved game on the golf course in the future. One common drill is to take swings with the feet close together. This may sound like nothing, but it’s designed to make a player’s balance better. In golf, balance is incredibly important. Anyone who’s observed pros up close will be able to attest to this. Other non-golf-specific balance challenges can be used, too. A classic one is to stand on one foot with the eyes closed for 30 seconds, then switch legs. Another great way players get better is by watching themselves. The simplest way to do this is in front of a mirror, in the home. Taking putts is a good way to do this. Good posture for golf involves keeping the back flat, the chest high, and the knees softened slightly. Of course, everyone’s best stance will be slightly different. But golfers who set up in that way tend to be the most successful. Finally, good golfers know that rhythm can be key to having a good outing. It can be difficult to develop a good rhythm, though. A great exercise to work on this can be done outside with just a golf club. It’s a simple drill: the golfer simply takes three or four practice swings in a row, with no breaks. That may sound like nothing. It does get results. The point of this exercise is to keep the golf club in motion. When the player is swinging, they’ll get to find what rhythms they’re comfortable in. They won’t even have to think about it.
