How is team coaching different than Group Coaching? Team Coaching or Group Coaching? For many, group coaching and team coaching is similar. In fact, there's a difference between the two. In a team, every member is accountable for collective thinking that empowers businesses to make a difference. Though both share remarkable similarities, there's a thin line between the two. Teams share collective goals, each member contributing their own best to achieve those goals. A group is an assemblage of people with a common interest. Each member in the group need not necessarily contribute to the group's goal.

What team coaching focuses on? Team coaching and group coaching differ in the solutions and approaches that they offer. When we see through the lens of coaching, as per IC, team coaching can be defined as: "Partnering in a co-creative and reflective process with a team and its dynamics and relationships in a way that inspires them to maximize their abilities and potential in order to reach their common purpose and shared goals."

To consider a group for group coaching the ICF has set the upper threshold group size at 15. Group coaching is a powerful way to leverage their members' resources, enabling them to take action, decisions, and self-discovery. It mostly focuses on peer learning. Team coaching essential focuses on: •

Strengthening the communication system prevailing within the team

Improving decision making if the team decisions are unclear

Creating workshops and holding sessions that can eliminate the pre-existing trust issues among the team members

Providing a structure to the stakeholder strategy to make teamwork more efficient.

Creating compelling sessions to align teams with the growth blueprint of an enterprise.

Enhancing relationships within teams to make processes easier.

What Group Coaching focuses on? On the other hand, group coaching is less about collaboration and more about individual development. If you want every employee to go for one-on-one coaching without investing in peer-to-peer coaching programs, then group coaching can help you the most. In a group, several people work on a common theme, but they have different individual goals. Unlike teams, groups aren’t intended to work for achieving a common organizational aim. Team coaches use several coordination models and theories that aid the team members in working together for a common cause. On the contrary, group coaches use case studies, activities, structured question sets, and distinguished coaching methodologies to support a group in achieving their individual long-term objectives.
