The Army Cadet Force is a national voluntary youth organisation. It is sponsored by the Army and provides challenging military, adventurous and community activities. It’s aim is to inspire young people to achieve success in life with a spirit of service to the Queen, their Country and their local community, and to develop in them the qualities of a good citizen. The Air Cadet Organisation, sponsored by the Royal Air Force, is a national youth organisation, open to young people aged between 13 and 20 years. With opportunities to gain qualifications such as BTEC Diplomas and Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, as well as the chance to go flying, gliding, adventure training, shooting and travelling abroad, the Air Cadets is a fantastic opportunity.

Chester-le-Street Ankers House
St Mary’s and St Cuthbert’s Church, Church Chare, Chester-le-Street, County Durham DH3 3QB
The Ankers House is a small museum, open FREE to the public. In the 13th Century it was an Anchorite cell housing an anchorite, who devoted his life to prayer and contemplation. It is attached to the Parish Church of St Mary and St Cuthbert, where a copy of the Lindisfarne Gospels may also be viewed. The museum also contains some Roman relics found in the vicinity, where once a Roman camp was situated. 1st Burnmoor Scout Group is a registered charity, which provides a wide range of activities for boys and girls aged 6 years upwards. There are Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers for the youngsters. The group runs a varied programme of adventurous and creative activities in a team environment, which help children, demonstrate their imagination and test their abilities and it also improves their self confidence.
