And there’s never been a better time to visit Beamish with an Unlimited Pass, you pay just once and visit for a whole year free of charge. Sell your home the smart way from
£395 + vat fee In today’s market why sell your home through a traditional high street based estate agent who charge expensive fees for marketing your property when these days most homes are sold via the internet especially Rightmove and Zoopla
Many high street estate agency companies have recently decided to drop either Rightmove or Zoopla and will advertise on just one of these limiting your market audience compared to our clients who reap the rewards of the maximum exposure.
As an online agency based in the North East, Alexander and Bowtell Estates have been selling homes since 2004 and can provide you a fully serviced agency with a free market valuation, property details including images and we guarantee to list your property on Rightmove and Zoopla.
Why not take advantage of the most competitive fee to sell your property regardless of your property price with a dedicated representative to aid you through the entire process and exceptional sales particulars including pictures, advertised on Rightmove and Zoopla.

GARDENING TIPS MARCH 2015
HANDY TIPS FOR YOUR PLOT It is unusual to take over a pristine plot; many are in very bad shape, covered in weeds, debris and rubbish. The first step is looking at the plot as a whole and identifying what will give most pleasure and productivity.
ALLOTMENTS
PUT COMPOST BINS IN THE LEASTVALUED PART OF YOUR PLOT AND DISGUISE WITH ORNAMENTAL PLANTS
YOU CAN’T BEAT THE TASTE OF FRESHLY HARVESTED CARROTS, CRUNCHY COURGETTES OR CRISP LETTUCE GETTING STARTED ON YOUR ALLOTMENT With a bit of preparation work you can produce attractive and productive plots for crops all year round. Make sure you clear the ground, test the soil and plan what to grow when, to ensure a satsifying supply of food for the table. FInd out the easiest ways to clear the ground, check the soil and get growing.
MAKING THE MOST OF A PLOT Getting to know your plot is as important as it is satisfying. Once you find out what the opportunities are, as well as the limitations, you can plan what crops will grow well, look good and taste great.
CLEARING THE GROUND Ground clearing can look daunting, but even a full plot is only 250 sq metres (300 sq yards) and if you clear just five of those each week, the job will be done in a year. PRETTY AND PRACTICAL If looks come first, a plot may be laborious and output may suffer: low, clipped hedges, for example, are troublesome, and narrow paved paths are awkward, inflexible and need a lot of weeding.
Plots may seem to be blank canvasses of earth, but no two are quite alike. n Boughs can be pruned (with permission) for stakes, and their leaves composted. n Terracing can be used on slopes to make easy-to-work raised beds. n Wet patches are problematic, but are perfect if you hanker after a pond. n Most sites have areas of neglect, such as banks, hedges and ditches, that offer potential sources of pea sticks, leaves for leafmould and vegetation for compost. Exploiting these will keep them in better repair, but do agree any activities with the site management first.
MIX UP YOUR CROPS According to the theory of companion planting, mixing plants together confuses insects, especially if you mix a strongly scented plant such as French marigolds with vulnerable crops such as runner beans.

110 YEARS OLD AND STILL GOING STRONG:
One of the oldest Amateur performing groups in the UK Gateshead Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society is celebrating its One hundred and tenth year. Gateshead Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society Affiliated to the National Operatic Association Created in 1905 the society’s first production was the “Mikado”. Apart from the principals there were 25 females and 28 males in the chorus, Oh how we wish we could attract as many Men nowadays! The Society in the 1920’s and 30’s used to compete in Musical Tournaments in the North East of England and were very successful Winning the Belmont Trophy six years in succession. From 1905 until 1960 Gateshead performed Opera’s, but audiences preferred to see these “lighter” musicals and Gateshead Society had to join in - which they did. So from the 1960’s Gateshead performed most of the modern musicals.
In 1991 we started a Junior Society which has been very successful, so Successful that we have lost a lot of our most talented youngsters to the West End professional stage in London. Plus we have a waiting list of youngsters wanting to join which is great. Talking of youngsters we are very proud to announce that the Society has just appointed there youngest Conductor the Society has ever had in all of it’s one hundred and ten years. And he is a very talented, eighteen year old, school boy from Whickham in Tyne & Wear Ross Norman, he is a member of the Society, but started in the Junior Society in the chorus and also taking many parts in a number
of productions, he has also taken many small parts in the senior Society. He is very musical having played in many orchestra’s throughout the North East in places such as The Sunderland Empire. Ross will take up the baton and conduct our next production which is “High Society” this will be staged in The Dryden Road Centre, Evistone Road, Low Fell, Gateshead starting Tuesday 14th April until Saturday 18th April 2015 at 7.15pm. SPORT
BACK ON TRACK
THE 2015 FORMULA ONE SEASON WILL BE THE 66TH SEASON OF THE FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. Twenty-two drivers representing eleven teams will contest twenty Grands Prix, starting in Australia on 15 March and ending in Abu Dhabi on 29 November as they compete for the World Drivers’ and World Constructors’ Championships. Lewis Hamilton is the defending Drivers’ Champion after securing his second title at the 2014 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Mercedes will begin the season as the defending Constructors’ Champion, having secured its first championship title at the 2014 Russian Grand Prix. • Sebastian Vettel left Red Bull Racing at the end of the 2014 season after fifteen years with the team and its wider junior development programme to join Ferrari in the place of Fernando Alonso. Red Bull promoted Daniil
Kvyat from Toro Rosso to fill the seat vacated by Vettel. • Fernando Alonso will return to McLaren, seven years after he last raced for the team. After weeks of speculation, Jenson Button was confirmed as the team’s second driver, with Kevin Magnussen retained in a test and reserve role. The decision to appoint Button alongside Alonso gave McLaren the single most experienced driver line-up in Formula One history, with the drivers having over five hundred Grand Prix starts between them. Toro Rosso’s driver line-up was completely overhauled, with Kvyat promoted and Jean-Éric Vergne leaving the team to compete in the FIA Formula E Championship while joining Ferrari as a test driver. CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL March 10-13th It is a huge week for the whole racing industry with punters at the centre of the attention, the betting for each race often starts through the season and up until seconds before the off. The Festival itself is held over four days and continues to expand with every passing season, each of the four days has a feature race with the Cheltenham Gold Cup on Day Four the feature race of the meeting. The Gold Cup is the stand out race of the entire week at the Cheltenham Festival and the ante post betting will be as competitive as ever with a number of horses likely to be in the frame for the big race. One of those will certainly be Lord Windermere who is the defending champ and will no doubt be targeted at the race once again in 2015.

GATESHEAD BEER & MUSIC FESTIVAL IS BACK. We are based at Gateshead Rugby club in Low Fell and the event is run by a hardy bunch of volunteers with all funds raised going to the development of Rugby. What initially started off as a small festival has quickly grown into one of the largest in the North.
Last year we had local lads Smoove & Turrell headlining the festival and the atmosphere was electric. Headlining this year we have The Dust Town Dogs and The Sleeze Sisters, we are also set to make an announcement on a sensational Friday headliner.
Whilst we reach out to many far afield we are very much about building a festival that brings together the local communities. We also support local businesses by sourcing local produce, as well as involving local charities.
We have a great selection of ales that are sourced countrywide but we also always ensure that we provide a great springboard for local brewers to showcase their Ales. Tickets and further information are available at www.gatesheadbeerfestival.co.uk
