G Street Designs - Greening

“G” STREET DOWNTOWN GREEN STREET DESIGN

Number of Travel Lanes/Direction: 1 lane, one-way travel Travel Lane Width: 14’ Number of Parking Spaces: 23 spaces Parking Space Orientation: Parallel to sidewalk Parking Stall Dimensions: 22’ wide, 7’ offset from edge of travel lane Amount of Landscaping (SF): 5123.499 Typical Sidewalk Width: east 6’10”/ west 8’

Existing “G” Street Layout

Pedestrian Circulation Considerations: At the site, the two way travel road and angled parking changed as one way travel road and parallel parking the sidewalk is extended much more and will secure enough splace to create planters, and rain gardens. These green space will not block the circulation of pedestrians because they are all arranged and shaped for pedestrian friendly. Stormwater Flowline Considerations: All the stormwater will flow through flowline(water way) and go to new installed planters and swales. The flowlines will be installed under ground but it will permeable the water. Storm water will reach to drainage at the last. Water from the builds will flow into planters, swales and flowline. The stormwater will not stay in the planter because they will be all connected with other planters and eventually it will flow to the drainage through flowline. Pervious paving on the road also reduce the over flow to the planters.

Alternative Layout #1: One-Way Travel, Parallel Parking on Both Sides

Number of Travel Lanes/Direction: 2 lanes, two-way travel Travel Lane Widths: 11’ Number of Parking Spaces: 23 spaces Parking Space Orientation: Parallel to sidewalk Parking Stall Dimensions: 22’ wide, 7’ offset from edge of travel lane Amount of Landscaping (SF): 4759.821 Typical Sidewalk Width: east 6’ 5”/ west 4’

Existing “G” Street Layout

Pedestrian Circulation Considerations: The existing parking areas are changed as parallel parking which the sidewalk is able to extanded. All the planters and newly installed green areas are all lined up so pedestrians will not be confused to walk. Bike Travel/Parking Considerations: Bikers will use the road as their needed but their will be ample space to travel.

Alternative Layout #1: Two-Way Travel, Parallel Parking on Both Sides

Number of Travel Lanes/Direction: 1 lane, one-way travel Travel Lane Width: 18’ Number of Parking Spaces: 38 spaces Parking Space Orientation: 45 degree angle Parking Stall Dimensions: 8.25’ wide, 14’ offset from edge of travel lane Amount of Landscaping (SF): 5619.792 Typical Sidewalk Width: both 8’

Existing “G” Street Layout

Pedestrian Circulation Considerations: The path is desgined to connect from all the different directions. Pdestrian will not have any barries to block the their way. In addition the sitting areas may bring more people to the site but they will have no trouble to travel around. Stormwater Flowline Considerations: All the stormwater will flow through flowline(water way) and go to new installed planters and swales. The flowlines will be installed under ground but it will permeable the water. Storm water will reach to drainage at the last. Water from the builds will flow into planters, swales and flowline.

Alternative Layout #2: One-Way Travel, Angled Parking on Both Sides

WESTERN ADDITION

The goal of this project is to (re)design and retrofit the urban landscape to create new spatial and social relationshops that will guide future growth and change for the Western Addition area. The design focused on improving the residential district and The Jefferson Square Park. By the observation, those residential buildings are underdeveloped and the park also used by few people during day time which higly considered to re - design. There are several issues to be addressed, but not limited to as a school project 1. Traffic and pedestrian systems 2. Definition of the public realm 3. The integration and fit of land uses and functional relationships 4. Building form, typology, and density 5. Governance structures 6. Financing mechanisms
