We know this is a stressful time and people want to know what they can do right now to protect themselves and their families. Stay home if you can and avoid gathering more than ten people. If you want to go out in public, practice social distance by keeping a distance of about six feet from others. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after being in a public place, or after running, coughing or sneezing your nose. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwanted hands. Avoid close contact with people who are ill. If you are ill, stay home, except for medical care. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing; Throw used tissues into the trash. The tissue is not available, a cough or a sneeze is in your elbow or sleeve, not in your hands. Clean and disinfect touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, dorkbobs, light switches, handles, desks, computers, phones, keyboards, sinks, toilets, taps, and countertops. You must wear a facemask when you enter other people (eg, sharing a room or vehicle) and a healthcare provider’s office. According to the CDC, COVID-19 symptoms include fever, shortness of breath, and a cough. Symptoms may appear 2–14 days after exposure. If you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19 and have developed symptoms, call your doctor for medical advice. WHO IS AT A HIGHER RISK? According to the CDC, preliminary information suggests that some people are at risk of becoming very ill with the virus. This includes older adults and people who have serious chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and lung disease. If you are at greater risk for serious illness with COVID-19 due to your age or serious medical condition, then it is extra important for you to take action to avoid getting sick. Stay home as much as possible and avoid the crowds as much as possible. Take daily precautions to maintain a place between yourself and others. When you go out in public, stay away from others who are ill, limit close contact and wash your hands frequently. Stock on supply. Contact your healthcare provider to ask about receiving additional essential medicines in case of an outbreak of COVID-19 in your community and require you to stay indoors for a longer period of time.
