The Tectum Way of Life This catalogue marks for Tectum Publishers yet another new direction. We continue with

Tectum, being our initial imprint, is everything but traditional! Tectum wants to explore dreams of luxury and design, expand horizons with compelling images and offer extraordinary reading experiences. Apart from that, Tectum diversified its portfolio some time ago, and the result is clearly to be seen in this catalogue: classics like the Mini Bibles and the Destination series are blended with the follow-up of the successful Food Italia, books about love and kisses, movies, bimbos and adult games. Take a look, and be surprised more than ever!

our trademark for over ten years: making stylish and beautiful coffee table books. But

PAGE 67

A set of luxurious notebooks and a logo that says it all: the bowler hat is rooted in a long tradition, a well-known classic, but easy to accommodate in today’s ever changing society. It is a symbol of class and rebellion, of expertise and fashion. The Bowler stationary design keeps these connotations up-to-date without departing from the original philosophy the hat stands for: an accessory for the busy man and woman with a playful mind, with respect for the past and a predictive vision. Luxury and user-friendly notebooks and pocket memos to be easily picked up and used for noting phone-numbers or, who knows, groundbreaking ideas.

we don’t plan on hanging on to our history. It is the future that counts. And the future for Tectum Publishers is bright. In this catalogue we bring to you Tectum Junior, a segment for the little ones, Femme Fatale, a female-friendly yet slightly provocative erotic imprint and Bowler, a stationary line for the strenuous man and woman. Our popular brand booQs is alive and kicking

PAGE 59

For the youngest children Tectum Junior brings funny and original titles that will teach them something while having fun, which is, after all, what being a kid is all about! We also present six gorgeous picture books based on traditional stories, enhanced with authentic imagery you’ve never seen before. On top of that there is the World Heritage Series in which young teenagers and their parents can find everything about the cultural and natural beauties of our surprising planet.

and will also surprise you with some excellent new additions. With this catalogue we invite you to experience and enjoy our brand new titles. Welcome, once again, to the Tectum way of life!

PAGE 43

Creative young singles, trendy families and upto-date professionals: they are the hip target groups of our brand booQs. These value-formoney gift books have a snazzy and modern look. Since they are right on top of new trends, the variety of titles keeps evolving and anyone can find an interesting topic in the collection. You will gladly hand these publications over to someone special, or even yourself. Apart from the introduction of 5 new titles in 2011, the booQs assortment guarantees ongoing high rotation for mass distribution.

PAGE 51

In a world often driven by a male notion of eroticism, women long for a more profound and tempting form of pornography, without having to rely upon honey-sweet and soft-erotic novels, read on a fluffy rug in a candle-lit chalet. Femme Fatale refuses to belittle women, and will therefore treat them as the sensual and sexual beings they are. In 2011 the titles are even more daring than before. Femme Fatale will show you how to make your own naughty movie at home, and make it look like a professional film. Another book will keep you warm with titillating stories by female authors, enhanced with exciting images, and the final title presents breathtaking pictures by women photographers, that show erotic portraits of men, women and the various possible combinations…

See how their creations transform everyday locations into alternative realities and behold the mysterious worlds that lie hidden beneath the surface. Birgit Krols (Antwerp) worked as a journalist for 10 years before venturing into the wonderful world of books with the title Extreme Hotels. In 2006 she started writing books for Tectum Publishers.

Remember the ’80s celebrates this colourful era. Patricia Massó is PR and marketing consultant with a passion for books. ISBN 978-90-79761-42-5

We are not just speaking of high-powered supercars, luxurious vessels, or air travel, but the world’s finest timepieces, and how all of these former industries have had considerable influence on the extraordinary mechanical wonders one wears on the wrist. Some of the most impressive designs of automobiles, yachts, and air travel have inspired some of the most revered and prestigious watches in the world; this is the awe-inspiring union of time with engineering and craftsmanship. From complex machines or the most complicated mechanisms, to elaborate designs and highly customized engines, this beautifully photographed edition is all about the result of the mingling of these two worlds, with some of the miniature machines worn on the wrist boasting as much technology, craftsmanship, and even financial input as the vehicles of travel they are inspired by. John Simonian is recognized as a visionary, an innovative businessman, and an ambassador to the world of horology. Both his father and his great uncle worked in the watch business, and they gave Simonian an insider’s view to the world of watchmaking at a very young age. Throughout his 35-year career, John has worked in all aspects of the Swiss watch industry. The automobile is celebrating its birthday. This extraordinary technical development has been with us for 125 years. When Karl Benz first introduced the “Benz Patent Motorwagen” - the world's first automobile - in 1886, he had no idea of the technical challenges his invention would be subjected to over time. Although the early motorcars were regarded somewhat skeptically as a mere alternative to horse-drawn carriages, it was soon apparent that they weren't just a means of conveyance. The endless demand for better performance and more comfort resulted in ever faster and more luxurious cars. They freed their passengers from the limitations of time and space, and their unceasing further development gave birth to an economically vital branch of industry. Whereas the legendary eight- and twelve-cylinder cars of the 1930s with their elegant bodies were largely the product of expensive hand crafting, some manufacturers were already recognizing the tremendous buyer potential to be realized through the more economical process of assembly line production. The automobile's appearance was soon being determined by new technologies in car body construction. By the 1950s, unique, custom-built car bodies were becoming less and less common, as the laws of aerodynamics and increased safety awareness were increasingly shaping and determining the uniform appearance of the majority of vehicles. Only a few smaller manufacturers, dedicated to producing high-class sports and luxury cars, continued to make automobiles that appealed to the rugged individualist. The demand for unusual one-offs and limited-series luxury-class automobiles is greater than ever before. Along with the classic cars of the past, these showpieces are the real eye-catchers on our streets. The desire for individualism that has colored automotive history from the very beginning will continue to ensure that both mass production and creativity find their proper place. The Mini Car Bible showcases the creative genius of automotive manufacturers and designers and is dedicated to important makes and models of the past as well as to the stars of the present.

Not just another design catalogue

A quarter century of tactile storytelling W ill E r e n s & P u r esa n g ISBN 978-90-79761-73-9 February 2011 “I never meant to write a book. When I got this opportunity, I didn’t want it to be another “BRAGBOOK”. I have always missed a good and honest book about the design industry. It looks like everybody in the design industry has instant succes. I know that it’s not like that. I don’t feel chosen to write the ultimate design management bible, in fact this can’t be written because our business is so different from continent to continent, from project to project; That’s why I want to give readers an honest description about my trackrecord, experiences and failures from the last 25 years. I hope this book will help people not to make the same mistakes and allow me to share problems with other creatives so they realize that it’s not only to them that shit happens.” Will Erens

God’s Cook Book J ami e d ’ A n ti o c

ISBN 978-9079761-98-2 (FR) ISBN 978-9079761-99-9 (NL) September 2011 A fascinating mixture of history, religion and recipes, God’s Cook Book offers a unique insight into the holy books of the world’s three major monotheistic faiths (Christianity, Judaism and Islam), and their prescriptions for human nutrition, as well as practical guides allowing the modern-day cook to recreate classical dishes. This richly illustrated book gives pointers to the kind of foods we should eat, as well as how and when to eat them, in order to live life to the fullest. More than simply recommending certain foods, this book encourages us to exercise and to combine favorable foods within the spiritual counsel of the three faiths. Encompassing not only cooking, but also art, religion and philosophy this amazing book is more than just a cookbook. Jamie d’Antioc, an engineer by training, has previously served as chairman of several major financial institutions. His professional positions required him to eat in some of the world’s best restaurants, but he was always drawn back to the food that his 108-year-old grandmother prepared. It was her ideas about cuisine and its links to spirituality and longevity that inspired this book.

BIRGIT KROLS ISBN 978-90-79761-70-8 September 2011 The world’s most compelling love affairs don’t end in ‘happily ever after’. Whether on film, in literature or in real life, there have been many enduring tales of love found and lost. Romeo and Juliet, Sid and Nancy, Heathcliff and Catherine, John and Yoko, Ennis and Jack – their names are etched in golden letters in the history of mankind, as their stories reinforce the belief that true love is worth sacrificing everything. Losers and Idiots A tribute to failure

Fien Meynendonckx ISBN 978-90-79761-69-2 September 2011 People and stupidity. It is a match well made. Since the earliest days of our existence, mistakes are our trademark: look at Adam or Pandora. For every good decision by man, twenty bad ones were made. Some in plain stupidity, others with the best intentions possible, some to harm only one, others damaging the reputation or fortune of many others. With examples from history, sports, politics, corporate life and much more, this book is a homage to stupidity, a tribute to failure, in short a celebration of what it is to be human.

September 2010 Traditionally, porn is a genre we are made to hate. Should we really stick to that? Can we be feminist and still like porn, or are they mutually exclusive? Is porn perverted or can it help us to learn things about our sexuality? Is porn dirty and does it kill your sexual appetite or does it help waken the libido? Should we protest against porn and ban it or should we participate in this male-dominated phenomenon, to change it and adapt it to our tastes? This great book gives an overview of porn by and for women, and tries to answer these questions. Including DVD with 17 erotic movie trailers for women by Erika Lust.

I paid such a high price to get my life and my body back that I decided not to invite men to my house again. I prefer to be taken to discreet hotels, places with a quiet piano bar, old-fashioned cocktails, art deco mirrors where everything can happen...I just need the key to one of the rooms if the story turns exciting and a back door in case it does not...”. REN, POMPOENTJE, REN!

E V A M E J UT O - A N DR é LETR I A Run pumpkin, run is a popular Portuguese tale of a great tradition. It tells the story of an old woman who, on her way to her granddaughter’s wedding, comes across a wolf, a bear and a lion that want to eat her. She convinces the animals to wait for her on her way back from the wedding reception. André Letria, an illustrator of great prestige in Portugal and winner of the National Illustration Prize, creates characters with great strength and personality, highlighting their expressiveness and enriching the images with a very defined humoristic imagery.

This amusing adaptation of a Burmese tale manages to transmit emotion and reach all the reader’s senses, while stil conveying a powerful message about the need to listen to good advice, the importance of keeping promises and the difficulty in learning to share. With delicate line drawings, alternating collage and texture, Helga Bansch manages to capture the tenderness in the story.

Chocolade M a r i s a N ú ñ e z - H e l ga Ban s c h Every day at 5 on the dot, Chocolate takes a bath in the lagoon. When she finds out that there are public baths in the city, she decides to leave the forest and try them out. There she discovers an entirely different kind of life. In this book, Marisa Núñez talks about illusions, desires, experiences, friendship and the importance of valuing what is close to us. The African inspired illustrations of Helga Bansch enrich the story and reflect the sense of humor and optimism of the narration.

Drie en Wens

“Dreaming on moonlit nights, brings good luck. You can ask for three wishes,” proclaimed the mysterious piece of paper that fell down the chimney of the two old people. Gold teeth, elegant clothes, a diamond palace… What a difficult choice!” This tale, adapted from the Portuguese oral tradition, speaks to us about the power of dreams, fleeting luck and the way in which affection and the desire to continue dreaming bring us happiness. Gabriel Pacheco provides illustrations of great evocative power, playing with the scenic resources reminding us of a puppet theatre, and introducing elements that provide the text with a great symbolic charge.

De prinses die de hele dag geeuwde

De prinses die de hele dag geeuwde C a r m e n G i l - E l e na O d r io z o l a The Princess yawned and yawned; and, as yawns are contagious, everyone in the palace went around open-mouthed: the King, the Queen, the Ministers..., even the gardener´s cat and dog yawned.

64

Pa t ac r ú a - C h e n é G ó m e z Once upon a time there was a lazy wolf who didn’t eat anything else but rice pudding. But one day, looking at his thin reflection in the mirror, he decided to become a fierce wolf. A fabulous universe where intelligence triumphs over brutality and the right to live and be in harmony with nature gets the upper hand over evil. Through a very synthetic collage technique and with great economic chromatic resource, the illustrator, Chené Gómez, achieves an effective, minimalist atmosphere.

An amusing tale with a poetic voice, which underlines values like friendship with a clear and direct message. The soft pallet and intimate lines of Elena Odriozolas illustriations are highly effective and evocative, both in technique and concept.
