EVERY PIECE MATTERS
Project Background Cambodia recent yearsis at peace after decades of conflict. Even so, Cambodia remains a low-income, food-deficit country where nearly a third of the rural population lives below the poverty line. Yet Cambodians underdeveloped agriculture sector has the potential to be a strong engine of growth for the economy. Feed the Future supports the Royal Government of Cambodians development strategy to improve the well-being of the rural poor and promote sustainable management of the countryns rich natural resources. With the rapidly expanding city of Phnom Penh outlying villages are being engulfed as suburbs of the city, many of these villages on the outskirts of the city are slums whose occupants do not own the land they live on. RAW have decided to purchase land near to the school and develop a medium density mixed use residential development to relocate the slum dwellers so they can stay in the community. The one of Consideration is the population growth in the future. There will be 15% of population increased in next 10 years. Yet, the main concept of the bamboo village project is how to sustain the community in next 20 years.

Site
The Site
Phnom Penh
This block of land which has been purchased is in the flood zone of the nearby Mekong River, and is approximately 2.5km from the main village and 20lm from downtown Phnom Penh. The site has approximately 90m of road frontage, and also has a 4m creek along one boundary.
Vernacular House Indoor temperatures of 36 °C and up to 80% relative humidity, and though there is no electric air-conditioning.The Form of Building The tradition material in Cambodian House are homemade palm matting cover the sides of the house, fixed to the wooden structure in a simple fashion.
Insufficient of Natural Lighting However, The building served by shelters in 4 sides facade opening, that lead the interior space to be very dark.
Extra Structure For Extension
Extra Structure of House Sometimes, villagers may collect and store wood here until they are able to build the next house for their relatives.
Shelter in 4 Sides Openings
Ground Shaded Space and Table Dwellings are raised on stilts that sometimes extend as high as 3 metres off the ground where the most effective shade is provided. This area is used for eating and resting, as well as craftwork and various other tasks such as the repair of farm equipment. People do not stay upstairs during the day; they only sleep here at night.
Craft Work Napping
Dinning
The house in its setting Nowadays the plot of a rural Khmer house is situated between the main street, to the front, and the rice fields at the back. In a busy thoroughfare, there is often a small shop, which consists of a simple wooden shelter beside the street, where all kinds of goods are sold.
Extension of House To begin with, additional family members often live in a temporary shelter on the ground beside or behind the main building. A new building is erected as soon as circumstances permit. Due to lack of money or shortage of building materials such buildings are generally smaller than the main house. In more densely populated villages, which lack direct access to the rice fields and are cut off from main roads, dwellings remain independent from each other, separated by a garden with banana trees, coconut palms and a vegetable plot. In these circumstances the rice fields are situated outside the village.
