Here, Bivens talks to Vogue about her earliest memories of the Men’s Basketball Players Uconn Huskies National Champions 2023 shirt and by the same token and Euphoria journey, her exacting process when it came to putting the book together, and how her role may evolve as the team gears up to produce its third season. Vogue First things first how did the idea for the book first come about, and how long have you been working on it?Heidi Bivens I’ve been working on it for about a year. I was contacted by A24 and asked if I would be interested in doing a book, partly because they had such success with the previous book series. I was so excited, because as soon as they asked me about it, I started to look into the history of books about costume design to see what kind of template may for this might already exist, and there really isn’t that much. Some books are comprehensive looks at a certain period or era of costume design, and some explore the influence of fashion on costume, but I couldn’t find a book out there that explored a costume designer’s process in the way that this has allowed me to do. So I’m really thrilled, and hopefully, it could mean there will be more opportunities for other designers to make books like this in the future.

The book charts your process designing the Men’s Basketball Players Uconn Huskies National Champions 2023 shirt and by the same token and costumes for Euphoria from beginning to end. Going back to your earliest memories of the project crossing your radar, what about it excited you, or made you quickly realize it was something you wanted to be a part of? I saw a post on Instagram from Jen Venditti, the casting director, and it was a photograph from that Joseph Szabo book Teenage. I love that book I even own some of Joe’s photos and so immediately I was curious, like What is this about? I sent it to my agent, and I realized I had actually been in touch with Sam Levinson before regarding his first feature Assassination Nation, so we were on each other’s radar. I was sent the pilot script, before the show had even been picked up, and I read it and I knew there was something exciting there. I didn’t know anything about the cast I don’t even think Zendaya was attached at that point, no one was. But just based on the script, I knew this was an exciting opportunity. Although I still didn’t anticipate that it would do what it’s done, but there was no way for me to know. I’m Gen X, so I did have to ask some Gen Z friends, should I do this? [Laughs.] And they all unanimously said, ‘Yes, you have to do this.’ As much as I can relate to a lot of the things that characters go through, I still needed some feedback from a younger audience. So I jumped in, and from there, everything moved so fast we shot the pilot, it got picked up, and then we were off to the races.Were there any moments in those early stages where it clicked for you that you were making something really electric here, or that it could become the kind of phenomenon it’s eventually become?
