mmortalized recently in a biographical film produced and directed by his daughter Gina Rodgers, Andre was the legendary Baseball major leaguer; who kept Bahamians with their transistor radios glued to their ears for the live broadcast from Major League ball parks all over the USA where the star slugger appeared. A much loved gentle giant, the country was moved at his death.

emetrius Pinder (born 13 February 1989) is a Bahamian male track and field sprint athlete who competes in the 400 metres. At the 2012 London Olympics he was a 400 m finalist and won gold with the Bahamas 4x400 team, of himself, Chris Brown, Michael Mathieu and Ramon Miller beating medal favorites USA with a national record.

e became a local sensation in park league ball and his Church basketball court before his super stardom at the university of Minnesota pushed the Gophers to the top of their league and Mychal became the Number One draft pick of the NBA in 1980, then onto his wonder years with the Portland Trailblazers and his World Championship victories with the Los Angeles Lakers. His son Klay Thompson now also sports a NBA championship ring.

is upset victory for the Bahamas’s welterweight championship crown over Ray Minus Senior in the early 1970s; set Everett Ferguson, Obed’s real name; on the path to international glory. In Germany he defeated the World Champion Dagee and came home with our first World Boxing Championship belt. Obed fought out of the famed Angelo Dundee Boxing stable on Miami Beach.

This legendary skipper from Staniel Cay Exuma continues to hold the record for victories in Regatta Class ‘A’ Sloop racing. he Star Class Sailor of the Bahamas. Young Durward was sailing solo from Family Islands all the way into Nassau Harbour on a Bahamian sloop dinghy. His knowledge of the sea and the wind and the compass and the weather came from his own experiences and would do him well at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 where along with fellow Bahamian Cecil Cooke, they won the Gold Medal, the first ever for the Bahamas.

he Bahamas’s premiere track athlete of the post-World War 11 era. His legendary sprints in international competition made him a household name and the then colony of the Bahamas saw through Tommy’s athletic prowess on the world stage how a people can be transformed through sports. The country mourned his passing at a State recognized funeral in 2013.
