WELCOME My life has been a dream. If it hadn’t been for the support of teenagers in the first place, the music business that has been so good to me and given me a life of privilege wouldn’t be here, it wouldn’t exist. So to be able to give back to that age group is very important to me. How lucky did I get to have my GP, Dr Adrian Whiteson, and his wife, Myrna, come to me and talk to me about the issues that young people face when they have cancer? At that time there was no such thing as a teenager in the health service. Children were either under 18 and a child, or over 18 and classed as an adult. Teenagers though were too young really to be considered an adult and too old to be considered a child. They sat in the middle in complete isolation. When I heard this for the first time it was like a light bulb switching on in my head. I’ve always looked for things that would enhance the success of medicines, and the vision that Myrna and Adrian had just seemed to make sense. It was obvious to me that it’s better to have a psychologically happy and contented patient, who is surrounded by others like them and treated by the best experts, than someone who’s isolated and miserable. And that’s been my drive ever since.
In those early days – as now – I did a lot of work to get the press interested, and they understood it too. They started to write about it. Then the wonderful British public, with their incredible generosity, supported Teenage Cancer Trust beyond anything we could have imagined.
As always, I need to say a big thank you to everyone who works so hard to make these shows happen. The artists all perform for free and we couldn’t do this without them, and of course, thank you to everyone who has bought a ticket and has come along to have a great night.
Since I was first involved with Teenage Cancer Trust in 2000 we’ve grown from having four specialist units in NHS hospitals across the UK to 28 units today! That couldn’t have happened without the public understanding the message and supporting our passion to help young people with cancer get the best care and support. There’s still so much more to do – we’re not reaching young people with cancer in isolated areas yet, and we need many more Teenage Cancer Trust Nurses across the country to make that happen but, with your continued support, we can make sure that through our outreach programs, every young person with cancer in the UK has access to our services.
Please give whatever you can to this amazing cause, there are many chances at the shows to put money in buckets or text to donate. Your money can change lives. Thank you again for all your support. I hope you have a really great night. Enjoy yourself, and see you next year!

SHOWS AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL
The night of Thursday 30 March 2017 will see us reach a very special landmark. The Who are performing a new presentation of Pete Townshend’s rock opera, Tommy, to mark the 100th show ever performed for Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall. As the driving force behind the shows for the last 17 years, our longstanding Honorary Patron, Roger Daltrey CBE has tirelessly helped to raise millions for young
people with cancer by persuading some of the biggest names in rock and comedy to perform across 100 unforgettable nights. Since the first ‘The Who and Friends’ performance in 2000, a total of over 225 bands and artists have performed for Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall, raising millions in income and much needed national awareness.

HONORARY PATRON,
ROGER DALTREY CBE
It’s a simple truth that Teenage Cancer Trust would not be the charity we are today without the tireless support, commitment and passion of the legend that is Roger Daltrey.
In December 2016 we hosted our 9th International Conference which was also the 1st Global Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Congress in Edinburgh. Over 400 health professionals from across the globe gathered to learn and share best practice in the field of adolescent and young adult cancers. Roger Daltrey CBE addressed delegates about his passion for championing the needs of young people with cancer across the world.
Not only has he driven 17 years of rock ‘n’ roll gigs for Teenage Cancer Trust raising many millions of pounds, he continually raises awareness, inspires countless others to fundraise, and is utterly committed to standing up for young people with cancer. He is now also working for young people with cancer in America through co-founding Teen Cancer America with Pete Townshend. Recently, Roger went to Capitol Hill and spoke to members of Congress about teenage and young adult cancer and the work of Teen Cancer America. This directly contributed to the American 21st Century Cures Act and will greatly enhance research into rare cancers, including cancers that affect young people everywhere. Roger continually uses his influence and profile to highlight all aspects of the challenges that young people with cancer have to deal with, as well as travelling across the UK and America to speak to people about our cause and visit young people with cancer. There is no one who has done more to shine a light on what young people with cancer need. Roger Daltrey is, without a doubt, the number one global ambassador for young people with cancer, and we’re so proud to have him as our Honourary Patron.
Myrna Whiteson MBE Founder and Life President:
Young people on stage at the very first show in 2000
“I will never forget the immense feeling of pride at our very first show as I gazed out from our box onto the glory that was the Royal Albert Hall and saw the name Teenage Cancer Trust emblazoned everywhere. In addition, the iconic venue was full of people young and old supporting and enjoying the magical evening. This feeling of deep joy was enhanced when at the end of the evening, with others, I faced the cheering audience from the stage and appreciated their warmth and unity. Everyone was at one with patients and performers and with Teenage Cancer Trust. My heart was full.”
REMEMBERING OUR FIRST SHOW Dr Adrian Whiteson OBE Founder and Life President: “The Royal Albert Hall was packed with noisy supporters at the first Teenage Cancer Trust Concert - The Who and Friends. It was arranged that I would say a few words about the Charity's work at the interval. How would a rowdy rock crowd react to me? That night I had invited two top athletes from the 2000 Paralympic Games in Australia, Marc Woods and Giles Long, who were Swimming Gold Medalists at the Games and World Record holders. Both of them are cancer survivors who had been helped by Teenage Cancer Trust. They came on stage with me and I told the audience about their amazing achievements and their cancer journey. Over 5,000 people gave them a standing ovation. We walked off stage with the applause ringing in our ears. Teenage Cancer Trust had arrived at the Royal Albert Hall. Thank you Rog, Pete and The Who, Bill Curbishley, Robert Rosenberg and all at Trinifold for putting Teenage Cancer Trust 'on the stage'.”

OUR WORK The money raised by these shows plays a vital role in helping Teenage Cancer Trust make sure no young person faces cancer alone.

That might mean providing treatment and support for young people in one of our specialist cancer wards, or travelling to other hospitals and to young people's homes to make sure we reach everyone who needs us, wherever they live. We also spread the word about the impact of cancer on young people. We do presentations in schools. We help medical professionals and politicians to understand why young people with cancer need specific support, and we publish a wide range of no-nonsense information resources.
Our Nurses are there to make sure young people get the best possible treatment, care and support. We want to make our Nurses available to every young person who needs them. Our Youth Support Coordinators are often the first person a young person will turn to with the questions they’re scared to ask. They spend lots of time on the units, focusing on helping young people and their families cope with all that cancer brings.
We make sure that we're there for young people from the moment cancer is diagnosed until long after treatment is over. Whether it's helping young people return to work or school, or giving advice about dealing with long-term side effects, our events and support help young people figure out what life will be like after cancer.
than simply clinical. Our units offer the best access to treatments and trials and bring young people together, because talking to someone who knows what you’re going through is a vital way of feeling less alone and more like yourself.

The money raised by these shows also helps to fund over 60 Nursing and Support staff in NHS hospitals across the UK.
Over the last 17 years, these shows have helped to fund our 28 purpose-built NHS wards (usually called units) for young people aged 13 to 24 across the UK. These units are at the core of our work. They’re designed to feel more like a home than a hospital ward. They’re comfortable and contemporary, rather
Teenage Cancer Trust Nurses are experts in teenage and young adult cancer care. They are professionally trained to know how to communicate with and support young people with cancer.
Whatever young people are going through, our Youth Support Coordinators are there, helping young people and their families cope with everything cancer may bring.
THANK YOU! On behalf of everyone at Teenage Cancer Trust, we want to say a massive THANK YOU to all of the amazing artists who perform for free every year and to everyone who works so hard to make these shows so special.
REACHING EVERY YOUNG PERSON WITH CANCER: OUR NEW NURSING & SUPPORT SERVICE
Also, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has bought a ticket and made these shows so successful for young people with cancer. We couldn’t do it without you.
During 2016, we started to successfully roll-out our new Nursing & Support Service across the country, bringing us closer to our goal of helping every young person with cancer that needs us. This revolutionary model of care sees us delivering care and support in local hospitals and young people’s homes as well as our specialist units. You can read more about our plan to reach every young person with cancer, wherever they are later on in the programme.

We hope you enjoy reliving the memories as you flick through the book.

NURSING & SUPPORT SERVICE
Right now for every young person we can support, there’s another we can’t. This needs to change. Our specialist units in NHS Principal Treatment Centres for cancer will always play a vital role in bringing young people and specialist experts together. But, not every young person can access these services – maybe because they live too far away, or aren’t able to leave their families, studies or jobs. This means young people can be treated in local hospitals without teenage-specialist support and facilities, or anyone else their age around them, which can be a scary and lonely experience.
So we’re changing the way we work to reach every one of the seven young people who are diagnosed with cancer in the UK every day, wherever they live. Our units will continue to be at the core of our work, but our new Nursing & Support Service will see additional teams of Nurses providing expert care and support to young cancer patients in local hospitals and young people’s homes, building wider links across the NHS.
“By taking our nursing support into local hospitals and young people’s homes, we can show those that can’t get to a Teenage Cancer Trust unit that we are there for them and they don’t have to face cancer alone.” Jax, Teenage Cancer Trust Nurse
£30 COULD PAY FOR
AN HOUR OF CARE FROM A TEENAGE CANCER TRUST NURSE
And alongside this new nursing outreach, we will also fund a range of improvements to the facilities and spaces young people with cancer use within local hospitals. With this work, we will make the choice to be treated closer to home, family and friends much easier, and finally reach every young person that needs our support.
TO ROLL OUT OUR NEW NURSING & SUPPORT SERVICE ACROSS THE UK, WE NEED TO RAISE MORE THAN £20 MILLION EVERY YEAR BY 2020

ULTIMATE
BACKSTAGE EXPERIENCE
During the week of our shows, Teenage Cancer Trust brings young people with cancer from around the UK along to the Royal Albert Hall, where they are treated like rock stars for the day and given a unique backstage experience at this incredible venue.
“I never thought I could play the guitar or enjoy it but the team helping us were amazing and I really enjoyed being part of the group creating those songs! Thank you so much!!”

Young Person, 2016
“Walking out onto the stage at the Royal Albert Hall – not many people can say they have done that! Something I will never forget.” Young Person, 2016
Each day a different group is treated to the Ultimate Backstage Experience, a whole host of unforgettable activities and the chance to form new friendships – adding up to a day they’ll never forget. This includes the music workshop, a standout experience for many of the young people involved. Delivered in partnership with the Royal Albert Hall’s Education and Outreach team, the group write an original song and share their experiences of cancer through the power of music.
Many even have the chance to get songwriting tips from the artists appearing on the night, before a performance in front of dozens of invited guests. These performances have created some incredible moments over the years, including unannounced visits from the likes of Stereophonics, Frank Turner and David Gilmour.
The group also enjoys a guided tour of the Hall, giving them a glimpse into many areas the public will never get to see, including the famous Royal Box. The rock ‘n’ roll experience is completed by a chance to meet the artists backstage, before relaxing in some great seats to enjoy an amazing night of music.
“The workshop was brilliant... I can now say I've performed at the Royal Albert Hall! Awesome.”
The young people taking part will either be receiving treatment for cancer, in remission, or receiving palliative care. We work hard to make sure everyone involved has a truly memorable experience. For some people, the supportive and positive atmosphere helps them reflect on what they are going through. For others, it is simply a chance to be creative, make new friends and forget about the difficulties of treatment for a while. Our aim is to make everyone feel like a rock star for a day.

TIM LOVEJOY Best known for presenting live weekend morning telly, including Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch and Soccer AM, the amazing Tim Lovejoy is back, for his FOURTH year in a row. Tim is an official Ambassador for Teenage Cancer Trust and he does an incredible job compering the shows – he’s the man who keeps the night running smoothly! Give him a huge cheer when you see him.
Photo: Jordan Curtis Hughes
Tim has a very real understanding of cancer. He said: “My brother died of cancer when he was 37, and I can tell you, cancer is lonely. I can’t imagine how much worse it must be to have cancer as a teenager. Cut off from friends due to gruelling treatment, they can be isolated, thinking there are no other young people like them out there. “I’ve visited Teenage Cancer Trust units and I can tell you it is money well spent. There is such a positive atmosphere there. It was inspiring how upbeat all the teenagers I met were.”
A massive thanks to Tim for compering once again this year – we couldn’t do it without him!

THE WHO
PERFORM TOMMY
30/03/17 and 01/04/17
To celebrate the 100th show performed for Teenage Cancer Trust at The Royal Albert Hall, legends The Who will play two very special shows this year, including a new presentation of Pete Townshend’s Rock Opera Tommy. This will mark the first full band performance of the classic rock opera since 1989.
English rock legends, The Who, formed in 1964. They are arguably one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century. Their classic line-up consisted of lead singer Roger Daltrey, guitarist and singer Pete Townshend, bass guitarist John Entwistle, and drummer Keith Moon. They are considered one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century, selling over 100 million records worldwide and holding a reputation for their live shows and studio work. Their appearances at Monterey and Woodstock helped give them a reputation as one of the greatest ever live rock acts. The Who’s major contributions to rock music include the development of the Marshall stack, large PA systems, use of the synthesizer, Entwistle and Moon’s lead playing styles, Townshend’s feedback and power chord guitar technique, and the development of the rock opera. Tommy was The Who’s fourth studio album, first released in May 1969. The album was mostly composed by guitarist Pete Townshend as a rock opera that tells the story about a deaf, dumb and blind boy, including his experiences with life and his relationship with his family. Townshend came up with the concept of Tommy after being introduced to the work of Meher Baba, and attempted to translate Baba’s teachings into music. Longstanding Teenage Cancer Trust Honorary Patron, Roger Daltrey CBE is a passionate champion of young people with cancer in the UK through his tireless work with Teenage Cancer Trust, and now in the US through the new charity he has helped to establish, Teen Cancer America. Roger and Pete Townshend have been supporters of Teenage Cancer Trust for over 22 years and The Who headlined the very first show for them at the Royal Albert Hall in 2000. 2017 will be the 17th year that Roger has been the driving force behind Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall. The shows are the charity’s flagship annual fundraiser raising millions to provide specialist care for young people with cancer.
Imelda May will support The Who on Saturday 1 April.
IMELDA MAY 01/04/17

M.O
27/03/17
It has been a milestone year for UK R&B girl group M.O The announcement of a deal with Polydor Records followed their first official Top 20 single ‘Who Do You Think Of’ - which raced to Silver status, selling over 300,000 copies. A huge statement from a trio who have been rightfully bubbling on the UK’s tastemaker underground since 2013.
Now coming with their new release, ‘Not in Love’ features one of the hottest rappers in the world right now in Kent Jones. The track has amassed over 7.5 million Spotify streams globally and is another inescapable female anthem that looks to cement them as the most credible girl group on the planet right now.
Annie, Frankee and Nadine’s MOBO nomination for ‘Best Song’ put them alongside Craig David, Kano, Tinie Tempah, WSTRN and Jorja Smith – and succinctly displayed where they should be ranked in the current roster of prime UK urban talent.
They’re well on the way to stardom – ‘Not In Love’ is the confident next step from a girl group looking like nothing can stop them.
ED SHEERAN 28/03/17
Ed Sheeran is back! Having just released his history-making third studio album ‘÷’ (Divide), which has become one of the biggest-selling releases in recent years, Ed continues to dominate charts across the globe. The troubadour has continually broken records since his comeback in January, even becoming the most-streamed artist in the world! His latest track “Shape Of You” has remained at Number One in the UK for 10 weeks and counting! Sheeran released his debut album ‘+’ (Plus) in 2011. Spawning his hit single ‘The A Team’, the track became the biggest-selling debut of that year. In 2014, he released his follow-up LP ‘x’ (Multiply). Bolstered by the likes of Pharrell Williams and Benny Blanco on production, ‘x’ charted at Number One on both sides of the Atlantic upon release, spawned his global smash ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and was recently named one of the biggest-selling albums of all time by The Official Charts Company! The album is now 90 x platinum and has sold 14 million copies, worldwide. In July 2015, Sheeran became the first-ever artist to headline Wembley Stadium, solo, without a band - with just his loop pedal and guitar - over three sold out nights. Ed’s won an array of awards including four BRIT Awards, two Grammys, two Ivor Novello’s and many more.

Jo is multi-talented to say the least, from taking the part of The Sergeant of Police in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance at London’s Gielgud Theatre, facing the formidable Alan Sugar for Comic Relief Does the Apprentice and learning to play the organ for a sell out audience at The Royal Albert Hall. Jo has also written several highly acclaimed best-selling books Can’t Stand Up For Sitting Down, Look Back In Hunger and The More You Ignore Me.
KEVIN BRIDGES
29/03/17
Dubbed as ‘brilliant’ by Billy Connelly, Kevin first made his debut at The Edinburgh Playhouse on BBC1’s Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow in 2009. Overnight success followed with Kevin selling out his run at the Edinburgh Festival in just a day. Kevin’s astonishing rise to success continued in 2010 – when he recorded his debut DVD at a sold out Glasgow SECC arena, in front of 10,000 adoring fans. The DVD was released in November 2010 and went on to out-sell Frankie Boyle and Billy Connolly.
In 2012 he also hosted the long running series of Live At The Apollo and presented his own six-part documentary, Kevin Bridges – What’s The Story, all for BBC1. His autumn 2012 tour Kevin Bridges – The Story Continues… smashed box office records for opening day ticket sales. A staggering 45,000 tickets were sold on the first day, selling out an incredible nineshow run at the Glasgow SECC Arena.
Kevin also fronted three hugely successful shows for BBC1 about the commonwealth games and the Scottish referendum.
The second DVD Kevin Bridges – The Story Continues… was a top five bestseller in 2012 with over 300,000 sales. Kevin’s success kept growing worldwide with a sell out Australian tour at the start of 2014 his autobiography We Need To Talk About… was released by Penguin.
His 2015 tour A Whole Different Story... went on to sell over 500,000 tickets seeing him perform all over the globe. The acclaimed tour saw Kevin play 16 sold out nights at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro Arena where he went on to record his third stand up DVD.

PAUL WELLER
31/03/17 One of the most revered music writers and performers of the past 30 years.
British icon and “Mod-father” Paul Weller has progressed from The Jam, through The Style Council, to the frontrunner of the 1990s Britpop movement and way beyond with his prolific solo career. Paul Weller has won numerous awards including being a winner of four Brit Awards, and the 2006 Brit Award Winner for Outstanding Contribution to Music. Described by the BBC as “one of the most revered music writers and performers of the past 30 years,” Paul released his 12th studio album Saturns Pattern, last year which reached Number Two on the UK Albums Chart. From duetting with Pete Townshend at the very first Royal Albert Hall show in 2000, to playing drums for Damon Albarn and Noel Gallagher in 2013, to his own shows, Paul has given so much to the charity.

Pricking the ears of Paul Weller, the Modfather invited them to his own studio to record, ending up playing and singing with them as well as producing the album, Street Rituals. The spontaneous studio chemistry is tangible throughout the album which features guest vocals from legends William Bell and Bettye LaVette.
PET SHOP BOYS

Photo: Pelle Crépin
Pet Shop Boys are one of the most successful duos in music history...
...a fact listed in 1998’s The Guinness Book of Records no less and backed up by some incredible figures; the three-time Brit Award winners and six-time Grammy nominees have sold more than 50 million records worldwide and achieved 22 Top 10 hits in the UK. Keyboardist Chris Lowe and vocalist Neil Tennant’s smart and utterly danceable synth pop has led to a West End musical, the London Olympics closing ceremony performance and three Ivor Novello Awards. More acclaim followed the release of their 13th album Super which they celebrated with a four-night residency at the Royal Opera House in London.

JOHNNY MARR
02/04/17
At just 18 years old, Marr formed the iconic band The Smiths with Morrissey, a unique performing and songwriting partnership considered one of Britain’s best ever.
Throughout The Smiths’ five-year lifespan they released four classic albums, none entering the charts lower than number two: 1984’s The Smiths, 1985’s Meat Is Murder (UK number one), 1986’s The Queen Is Dead (a longstanding perennial of classic album polls, voted the greatest album of the millennium by Melody Maker) and 1987’s Strangeways, Here We Come. After the break up of The Smiths, Marr continued to co-write and play on hit records for the likes of Kirsty MacColl, Bryan Ferry, Talking Heads, Nile Rodgers, Oasis, Pet Shop Boys, Blondie and Beck. He joined The Pretenders, The The, Electronic, Modest Mouse, The Cribs, his own group The Healers and recently collaborated with Hans Zimmer. In 2016 he released an autobiography entitled, Set The Boy Free. Johnny’s influence has been acknowledged with a host of personal honours. In 2007, he won the Q magazine Lifetime Achievement award and in June 2009, the Mojo Classic Songwriter Award. In 2010, he received the Inspiration Award at the 55th Ivor Novello Awards.
