GOLF The golf season is in full swing as we are now in spring and headed into the summer months. There are lots of great Member events on the schedule, from Demo Days to Member Appreciation events, to The Chalice, and on. We have an event for everyone to participate in! The CordeValle Game along with the Ladies Game and Clinics have begun for this year. The CordeValle game is held on Friday afternoons and features a different team format every week. The Ladies Game is held on Wednesday mornings with individual competition and Guest Days. The Ladies Clinics are held on Tuesday afternoons and are sure to improve your game even further. Please join us for one or more of these weekly events! We are very excited to feature some of the best golf vendors in the business on Friday, April 15th for a Demo Day! Come see and test the best and latest golf clubs and equipment by the top golf vendors in the business. Vendor representatives will be available to custom fit golf clubs to meet your specific needs and swing. Get the latest gear and lower your scores this year! The Chalice, CordeValle’s premier Member event of the year, will be held May 4th through May 7th. Now in its 17th year, this year’s event will be recorded as one of the best ever with sharp, competitive golf, fine fare, and elegant tee gifts. The Club Championship will be held June 3rd through June 5th this year. This event is the ultimate test of a player’s game management,

Defending Chalice Champions Mike Klayko and Son Chris Klayko

focus and skill. The event will be contested over three days of championship level golf with a Championship, Net and a Women’s Division. This event will determine our champion golfers for the year! TEE TIMES | VOLUME 2

ON THE COURSE Spring is in the air and on the golf course. The wild turkeys are strutting their stuff and everything is starting to green up and grow. As we’ve shared, we are implementing new agronomic practices that along with our current maintenance program will benefit the course for the long term. The results of the initial deep tine aerification that we did in late February are impressive. Sampling indicates that we are definitely improving the overall health of our greens and that our roots are driving much deeper into the sand base below the putting surface. In fact, we have found that on all of our greens tested recently, many of the roots are already 3 to 4 inches deep. This is a big improvement and a positive trend. We have just completed our second aerification and feel that the results will continue to be promising for the greens on a long term basis. Another project underway is our irrigation system audit. This time consuming process includes GPS irrigation mapping of our valves and 3,000+ irrigation heads, then analyzing the performance of each head to identify problems such as incorrect sprinkler height, incorrect nozzles, leaks, wiring problems, replacement, etc. The audit also includes analysis of our pump system and work on our software that controls the irrigation applications. Typically, a 10 to 20% reduction in water use is accomplished following their audit and the completion of the repair work. We are pleased with the arrival of our new maintenance equipment. Our crew and Master Mechanic, Cliff Mota, are going through training, then you will start seeing the new equipment show up on the course. Thank you for the support you have given my crew for our efforts to date. Course conditions will continue to show improvement as we look forward to The Chalice, Club Championship, U.S. Women’s Open, Ladies’ Challenge, The Harvest Cup, and the joy of great daily play!

Tennis Tips Volley A punch volley is a type of volley that doesn’t use a full swing. It’s a great technique when you’re volleying at the net and have limited time to set up your return. To hit a ball hard and fast with a short swing, you need racquet speed, which is exactly what a punch volley offers - a short swing with a punching motion. Try it next time you’re at the courts.
